Friday’s iPhone 2.1 firmware update: fixes calls, battery life, crashes
Filed under: Electronics, Portable Media Players

We have all been complaining some time now about the bugs in the iPhone 3G and first generation phone that has firmware 2.0, and today we have confirmation that iPhone firmware 2.1 is coming on Friday.
At Apple’s event today, Steve Jobs announced that the new iPhone 2.1 firmware software will be available this Friday and free to all owners.
This is going to be a big update, it will fix a lot of bugs. After updating there will fewer dropped calls, big battery life improvements, no crashes with Apps and backing up the phone will be faster as well.

what about navi turn by turn
I read yesterday that the GPS turn by turn direction capability was also to be included in the 2.1 update
I don’t understand how the battery life will be improved. Wouldn’t that be hardware related?
GPS is all fun but what about basic stuff like forwarding text messages?! or sending contact details by SMS?! or recieving (let alone sending!) picture messages?! or copying and pasting text (e.g. a post code from safari into the maps app)?!?!?!?!?!!! This is all stuff Nokias have been doing for YEARS and is just irritating….
GPS turn-by-turn will not be included, but the turn-by-turn is now possible. So if you are able to write an app, you can get it to give instructions.
Battery life will improve, as there are changes on how the data is pushed and fetched. Without needing to stay connected to the internet always or more frequently. This will only benefit those using their phone that way.
