Microsoft IE8 Beta 2: twice the RAM as Firefox

With the news about Microsoft IE8 Beta 2, there have been so many tests now with the new browser and you will be amazed at some of the results. One of the shocking discoveries was the fact that Internet Explore 8 Beta 2 uses about twice as much ram as Firefox.

It seems that the new IE needs double the system memory as the Mozilla equivalent; this will get the Firefox fans talking.

Computer World have also noted that the new IE uses twice as much RAM as its predecessor, IE7. IE8 also uses almost three times as many threads. We just hope that Microsoft are able to fix this problem, it they do not then there is no chance of Microsoft taking people away from Firefox.

To use an outdated method of measuring performance on a next generation version of software is very misleading. Until the so-called researcher can do a non-biased analysis of software in an objective manner then this article is useless for those that want to understand where technology is headed, and what we should plan to incorporate something that Computerworld aspires to do as a publication.

Who cares about non-cored systems if you are looking at the future? Does this mean that we should replace IE7 with Firefox if we do not have a dual core processor? Of course not. You would upgrade to IE8 on systems with the appropriate hardware and leave the old hardware alone. There is no real driving need to change out to Firefox if you already have IE7 successfully installed. For newer processors you want to go with a multithreading system wherever possible and you want the software to catch-up, something that IE8 is doing. The comparison with the OS footprint is also ridiculous since we are now going with the OS on the browser, are we not?

The term Research would imply something for the future, not the past. It continues to be stunning why there are so many biased attacks on Microsoft at this day and age,
