65,000 Hyundai Elantra’s recalled with fuel pump problems
By: Peter Chubb | August 29, 2008 | Leave a CommentThe Hyundai Motor Co. is recalling 65,000 Elantra sedans in the United States because there is a problem with the fuel pumps. Hyundai have to replace these fuel pumps, as they may lose pressure which will then degrade the performance of the engine.
The voluntary recall of the Elantrs affects the 2008 model with the 2.0-liter Beta engine. Some of the fuel pumps in these cars from Nov. 5 to June 28 might lose pumping pressure.
The reason for this is when gasoline mixed with ethanol produces a build up of film on the unit’s electrical contacts.
Hyundai have said that there are no reports of any injuries. The Hyundai Elantra is the second-best selling vehicle in the United States. Sales of their model have risen by 25% this year till July; the automaker has sold 72,432 units.
