Force Unleashed demo now on Xbox 360’s Live

Gamers have been looking for information on the Star Wars Force Unleashed demo all week and we can now confirm that it’s available for download on Xbox 360’s Live.

Some people believed that the Force Unleashed demo was not going to be released this Thursday; this is what one gamer said to PR “the Demo will not be releasing this Thursday. A LucasArts PR person said this earlier today in the forums on the site”.

While we were not sure why that rumor was released, it has certainly turned out to be false. This new Star Wars game will be a massive hit thanks to the light saber-wielding action, and some gamers cannot wait to become the secret apprentice of Darth Vader in a TIE Fighter Construction Facility mission.

On the Xbox Live Marketplace you will find these details: Size of file 904.62 MB, availability in all Xbox LIVE regions and the price is free. So what you waiting for? Go get the Force Unleashed Demo and let us know what you think.

    It is amazing

I thought it was very disappointing. I was expecting something with a bit more depth, like Mass Effect. Instead the demo plays like a God of War clone. I played both the 360 and PS3 versions and on both consoles the game looked and played similarly, though I’d give the 360 the edge graphically. The 360 outputted at 1080p where as the PS3 was stuck at it’s usual 720p. The graphics were a little disappointing on both machines but I’d say it looked a marginally sharper and slightly more detailed on the 360. I preferred using the PS3 controller though.

Having played the demo, I have a sneaky feeling the Wii could have the best version.

Actually the PS3 version does indeed support 1080p, not sure why you said it’s stuck at 720, but it’s not true. Second, a LOT of ppl are saying that the 360 demo had screen tearing at 1080p, and the PS3 version did not (similar to GTA4). Also similar to GTA 4 is that the 360 version appears much darker, but more vibrant, where the PS3 version is brighter letting you see farther details but is softer in color.

The main difference next to the PS3’s brighter yet softer graphics vs. the 360’s very dark yet more vibrant graphics would be the sound. The PS3 demo had uncompressed sound, giving it a much richer sound than the 360 version. I noticed little beeps from droids, and much crisper sounds on my PS3 than I did on my mate’s 360.

Only MGS4 is coming out at 1080p, all my other games and demos are outputting at 720p. Perhaps your TV is set to upscale all content to its set resolution? If this is not the case could you tell me how I can get all my PS3 games to output at 1080p, as even on the boxes it states they output at 720p. If you could help that would be much appreciated as there are def more jaggies at 720p.

I haven’t played a demo of TFU, but regarding the question of how to get maximum resolution out of the PS3, there is something I had to do to upscale GTA4 on the PS3. Specifically, I had to go into video settings and manually uncheck 720p. When I did this, GTA4 went from 720 to 1080 on the next run. I don’t know whether it improved the graphics, which I wasn’t impressed with anyway, but that’s a different game.

When I had first run GTA4, I was surprised and annoyed to find it came up in 720, and I considered doing this, but couldn’t believe it was necessary. So I searched the web and evidently this was the normal solution. I never had these sorts of problems on the 360, but I’m trying to give the PS3 a chance with the latest games.

It seems silly that this would be necessary for one game, let alone many, but maybe that’s just the way the PS3 is. I suspect 720p performs better, and lately people are saying that graphics are no better at 1080 than 720, but with my 65″ LCD HD TV (just like a high-resolution PC monitor), there’s a difference.

If someone can confirm that the PS3 version doesn’t work properly at 1080p, please let me know so I can switch my preorder to the Xbox 360.

Oh, and incidentally, I know the graphics really did go from 720 to 1080 (on GTA4) because my TV accurately indicates all mode switches with a little onscreen display.

Also, I have wondered what effect unchecking 720p would have on a PS3 game like Oblivion that doesn’t indicate 1080 on the box. I haven’t gotten around to finding out, but either it’s going to artificially upscale it to 1080 or cram it down to 480; probably the latter.
