True Story of the Laptop that saved SGT Steven W. Clark’s life

Back in February of last year we posted information about a laptop that took a bullet and saved a soldier’s life. This was a massive story at the time and even made it to the homepage of Digg.
Today we have heard directly from SGT Steven W. Clark of the 101st Airborne. You can read what he sent in to us below.
The Toughbook belong to a member of the 101st Airborne (Air Assault)…Me…. I am sick of this story getting messed up. It was hit in the back of my M998 HMMWV in Mosul, IZ on 9 June 2003. It was hit in the hard drive by a 7.62 x 54R round from a PKC belt fed machine gun from a distance of 250 meters. I took a round in the shoulder. All the info from the hard drive was recovered, placed on a new hard drive and sent back too me by October 2003. The round went trough two boxes of MRE’s and the carrying case before being stopped by the thick disk, non-removable hard drive. Whoever this 82nd guy is full of it. This computer is sitting in the Ft. Huachuca, AZ Military Intel Museum with my name and “101st Airborne Screaming Eagles” next to it!!!

Thank you for clearing the story up guys. As a wounded soldier it is important to me that the BS gets cleared up. This toughbood did a great job for my Military Intel platoon in Iraq from 2003 to 2004. It survived a bullet and maintained the important information on the hard drive. To give you a heads up. I am still in the Army, and yes…I still use a Toughbook!!!

That is awsome. This story is one big ad for tough books. I’m sure the MREs helped too =].
