SAN JOSE, California, August 20/PRNewswire/ — The 6th edition of the Electronic Sports World Cup will be held from August 25 to 27 in San Jose, CA, as part of the NVISION event.

The ESWC is an international videogame competition that brings together, this year for the first time in the United States, more than 650 gamers from over 40 countries, invited to compete for 6 world champion titles.

All participants earned their place during more than 8 months of national qualifying rounds. The ESWC finals in San Jose are an event open to the public. The most spectacular games will be played on the main stage, broadcast on a giant screen, with commentary by electronic sport specialists.

“Some videogames are pure entertainment, others are true works of art. Some are spin-offs, while others are of an educational nature. We believe that some games can also be real sports,” stated Matthieu Dallon - President of Games-Services / ESWC. This idea has made inroads throughout the world, giving birth to the concept of Electronic Sports or “E-Sports”, shared by millions of players.

“There isn’t much room for luck in E-Sports: the game is a tool, a field where the protagonists’ talent is expressed. Reflexes, the ability to concentrate, visual acuity, team spirit, endurance, those are the skills that need to be refined in a high-level game in order to overcome an opponent. And that’s the paradox of electronic sports: in a world of pixels, emotion makes all the difference,” said Matthieu Dallon.

That emotion will be shared live via the Internet. All main stage games, particularly the finals, will be streamed free of charge in partnership with Dyyno technology at eswc.com/livestream

Real-time results for each tournament can be found at eswc.com/grandfinal/sanjose2008/
