When many gamers heard at E3 2008 that Xbox 360 owners could install video games to the 360 built-in hard drive, some were thinking this would be cool with friend’s games. They were very wrong.
You are not able to install Xbox 360 games from a friends disc and then play whenever you want because you will need the disc still.
Once you install the game and then try and play it again from the hard drive it will still ask for the original game disc.
Below this post is a video that shows someone installing Grand Theft Auto IV to the console’s hard drive. You will see in the video that it still asks you to insert the game disc.
There may be a hack that already combats this. It wouldn’t surprise us. Let us know what you think of the new 360 dashboard in the comments.

Why’s that a surprise and it’s hardly news worthy.
If u need the disc to play the game what is the point of copying it to the Hard Drive?
The point of installing on the hard drive is so there is less wear and tear on the DVD drive. The original disk is just read once to verify that you have an authentic game DVD. After that the game runs from the hard drive.
Well you could play games off the hard drive it just asks for you to insert it because they want ta see if you have the game not borrow it from blockbuster and install to the harddrive and return the game thats stupid if you insert the cd and compare the game runing off the cd and hd youll noticed the difference if it is running off the hd ; )
how do u copy the game on to your hard drive, do u need to do something?, the dashboard in the clip is different to my one so do u have to update or something?
quyen, there will be an update in the coming weeks/months. If you’re connected to live it will notify you when it’s available.
thank, but when is the update coming to Australia?
Installing GTA IV and other games or copying Pictures, Music,Data,Videos on the Hard Drive=
Games: 1.Better Graphics
2.Better Gameplay
3.!!!THE MOST IMPORTANT!!! If your Xbox 360 will scratch your disc [ perfect circle scratch (deep)] you CAN still play it bcz it is on your HD…
Data: 1.You won’t lose your Savegames, Pictures, Videos, Music etc…
2.You can use them anytime etc
3.Etc…
So….it’s better to have an HD at your Xbox 360…
Does this also work with external hard-drives plugged into the Xbox360? I am thinking of buying an external drive, so that I can install more games onto it — I don’t want to pay the high prices for a new XBox360 drive, so am trying to find a cheaper option.
this sucks so much i copied it to the hard drive and tried to play it with a scratched disk and it wont work its completely useless
