Xbox 360: Gaming or Media Streaming?

We have so many comments and many statements saying that Xbox 360 gamers only bought the 360 gaming console for games only, when everyone compares the Xbox 360 to the Sony PS3 you all say that it is for the games not the media side of things such as the Blu-ray.

Well now the Xbox 360 has media-streaming where you can stream movies direct from Netflix, so now that you have media streaming are you still about the games when compared to the PS3.

The PlayStation 3 has always been about gaming and media, this console has always been about giving you the whole package and not just gaming and of course when comparing Xbox 360 gamers say they bought the console solely for the gaming side of things not the media side of things

In a nutshell what we are asking is, now that you have streaming capabilities do you use the Xbox 360 more for media like movies than before or is it just a games console like it has always been?

After 2 RRoD’s I’m afraid to turn it on anymore…I use mine to keep my documents from fling off my desk.

Now that the Xbox360 has mediastreaming from NetFlix is can better compete againg the PS3’s blueray player. Though it is not a true/fare comparason. The Xbox had HD-DVD which competed better with the BluRay. The PS3 does not have streaming video at all. Though it should have it now that the Xbox has it.

The remaining lagging issue with the Xbox360 has to be size of the Media. DVD9 is just not enough now a days. A game coming out (Rage) will be a multi disc game. To be correct is should be a 3 DVD game where it all fits on only 1 BluRay Disc. The game will be compressed to fit 2DVD massively affecting the quality of the game.

my god, what a terribly written piece - are you old enough to run a website?

It isn ‘t just media streaming, you can litteraly host a movie night over Xbox Live. You can rent and watch movies from Netflix online WITH your Xbox Live buddies.

It’s all part of social networking and no Xbox fanboy has ever said 360 is all about gaming, they say it’s about gaming FIRST. 360 is about social networking 2nd and they destroy the competition already the way it is.

PS3 is not, they have crap for games besides a select few. PS3 touted Blue Ray first, Cell power second and then games ( if you haven’t noticed by their library ).

The gameshow channel looks like a pretty big step in gaming to me.

The RAGE game’s creator is just being a dumb ass, look at DOOM 3, all glory and no guts. Carmack is soo obsessed with looks that he forgets to make the game fun to PLAY.

PS3 might have a problem having it on one disc as well, the Cell wastes soo much time and coding that sound alone takes up 1/3 of the Blu Ray disc, Lighting and texture takes up another 3rd. Why do you think MGS4 was actually ONLY 5 hours of gameplay ? I have it and it’s great but common … 5 hours of gameplay ? It doesn’t look that much better then the first Gears of War and that is 2 years old.

    PS3 has you all fooled.

What about the media streaming from networked PCs and other devices… Its always had that…. and CD ripping…. and all the numerous other media features and devices. Yeah of course its always been about just games :S

What an incredibly stupid article. I mean really. Whats the point of this site anyways? These are the stupidest, pro-Ps3 articles I’ve ever read, and I have both consoles. I cant even figure out where to stream media from on the PS3. “Always been about media”? bud, you my friend need help. Wait, you must be getting help from Sony to write this garbage. How you even have a job doing this lends to the credibility of this site. Which now has virtually none. The PS3 is so far behind the 360 its scary. sans MGS4, it’d be in some serious trouble and still actually is. Right now its a BR player and nothing more.

  7. gamer says:

PS3 can stream media from your PC. It is the only DivX certified console. It supports HD movie playback. It houses many highly ranked games and many of today’s popular gaming series. Best part, it doesn’t break down nearly as often as the 360. Anyone who tries to say they don’t want features consolidated into one device, stop taking pictures with you phone and you better not get caught watching any movies / tv shows off your 360 or computer.

    Any more questions?

NYC: “Right now its [PS3] a BR player and nothing more.”

You obviously do not own a PS3. I own both consoles… So I believe I can give real feedback on the capabilities of them from first hand experience.

    Where’s you’re proof, poser?

I’ll use my xbox for any feature microsoft want to add on to it, and microsoft seem to always be expanding their system, instead of sony answers “well we have blu ray” oh Sony, Blu is spelt Blue, are they trying to be cool like Blu Tac?

Xbox = gaming system, with multi media abilities
PS3 = Blue Ray player and then games (yes it does play games, i didnt believe it myself but i did find some available)

Hey LooseA$s, remember me? You said you weren’t a 360 fanboy a few months back and said you owned a PS3, but here you are again just ‘fanboying’ it up with your 360 glory and PS3 folly. All of your comments lack validity, proof, and thought; it’s like you brain works against you rather than for you.

Your technical analyis of the PS3 is so far off you could have just said “Loading a game in a PS3 uses 98% of the space on a Blu-Ray Disc and the other 2% is used to toast bread”. Sounds dumb, doesn’t it…well so do you.

Rather than just boasting about the 360 and sounding like a total fanboy, you should compare the two consoles only where the 360 is better than the PS3, that way if anybody compares anything where the PS3 might out-do the 360 (notice the word ‘might’ insures that I’m not a fanboy?) you can just say “That’s not what I was talking about.” and then that person’s comparision doesn’t count.

Anyways Loo$eA$s, I hate fanboys and wish you would have take the my advise a long time ago. Best of luck to you, fanboy, and all your future fanboyism.

    **Stop fanboyism; hang yourself**
