The wonderful world of the internet manages to come up with some bizarre stories from time to time and this latest one is no different. It appears that the popular social networking site, Bebo is set to become the first organisation to allow members of the public to record messages or images and relate
them to a representation of life.
The way this will work is that Bebo members will be able to send their messages to Bebo until the closing date of the event, which is 30th September. The top 500 messages will be chosen and then sent off to the ‘nearest planet’ outside our solar system, interesting stuff.
These messages will be sent using a state of the art radar telescope from the National Space Agency of Ukraine on the 9th October, aiming to reach a planet named Gliese 581c. This process isn’t as simple as it sounds though as the planet in question is over twenty light years away, and according to ‘solar system rules’, the messages will take twenty years to arrive!
This project is all part of the ‘Message from Earth’ and will launch on August 4th, internet voting will take place to determine which messages get sent into space.
