Sony PS3 2.43 update needed to fix 2.42 firmware

It looks like we will need the Sony PS3 2.43 update much sooner than later as it’s needed to fix the 2.42 firmware. We are getting numerous reports that the latest Playstation 2.42 firmware is causing problems for users.

Personally our PS3 is just fine but then we have not had much time with it since the latest firmware. This is what some gamers have reported to PR:

Well this is totally Effed Up!!! My son decided that it would be a good idea to update the PS3 and he did 2 nights ago without me knowing it. Well now ANYTHING BLURAY does NOT play. NOTHING!!! Doesn’t even recognize the DAMN Disk!!! Is there anything I can do???

Installed this newest update and now nothing works, can not read disks at all. We have done the system restore, etc. now have to wait while it gets shipped to Sony to fix it. Very upsetting, fairly new PS3 (5 months) in excellent condition and was working perfectly prior to update. Extremely frustrating.

Yeah, downloaded it earlier and now I can’t stay connected to a single online game.

Downloaded the update and all my saves on cod 4 single player have gone and when I name my perks online as soon as I switch my PS3 off they disappear and have to name them again.

Have you been having problems with the latest PS3 firmware?

    No problem whatsoever.
Neither with mine nor with all 6 PS3 of close friends.

Bogus news, if you ask me.

I managed to live through the 2.41 fiasco unscathed but as of the minute I downloaded 2.42, COD4 stopped working with the network. In fact it looks like some sort of IO conflict between the network and BD drivers but I’m not a PS3 HW guru so who knows for sure. I do know that I didn’t power off during the upgrade, and have had no problems to date.

I’m pretty sure that Sony will release a firmware patch that fixes this issue pretty son and I can still play many other games and watch other BDs and DVDs so I’m not stuffed as badly as some others. Hope you guys manage to get your boxes fi
xed up without too much expense or hassle.

In the meantime it’s a shame there are so many pre-pubescent idiots out there who can’t accept that people are having issues with the latest firmware upgrades. I’d like to suggest taht if you don’t have anything constructive to say on the subject, you shut up and leave the conversation to grown ups.

And yes, I mean you Matthew Collins you semi-literate moron. Maybe when your machines turns up its toes, mummy and daddy will decide that it’s about time you got out a little, perhaps attended an anger management class or learnt how to deal with your ‘issues’ in some way other than spamming boards with ill-considered bile. We can only hope.

And ernie and dustinmyles, anyone who finds it easier to believe that this issue is a Microsoft sponsored slur campaign against Sony than that Sony could release a piece of defective software needs to turn off the TV open the door and take a few steps out into the big wide world of reality.

David, you are a sore loser… really

I don’t feel anything for you… I mean, you want my PS3 to break, because I don’t think your BD problem and the FW are related? Come on, how immature can you get?

There ARE problems with the BD ROM, but again, I doubt that those are FW related. Dumb coincidence maybe, but then again… You seem to suck, so I don’t care…

I just ask you to put yourself in my shoes and the others. Going to turn it on and it locks up, or gives you a blank screen. Someone asked for video evidence, that’s funny, they want my blank screen?

Let me word it this this way: I hope that your PS3 doesn’t break, cuz I wish that undeserved feeling on no one.

Thing is every time Sony updates the firmware you always get a crowd saying “oh noes!!! Sony broked my PS3, it doesn’t read discs/play games/can’t connect to internet” there has only be 1 major screw that Sony has done, I think the people who keep complaining about their PS3 breaking are idiots who don’t know what they are doing/talking about or 360 fanboys just trying to cause trouble.

  6. BunnySan says:

Funny… every update brings viral comments to the net… very funny.
Most problems are caused by the customer’s kids themself - maybe inpatience while waiting for the update to get ready… and turning it off BEFORE? Maybe?

I would like to say my COD4 on ps3 stopped working online after the sony update. It was perfectly fine before it. On reading on other forums i found out that this has been a common problem with this game after the sony update. All my other games work fine online that i have with my PS3.

Okay let’s make this clear once and for all.

I’m NOT a kid who was messing with the PS3 whilst it was updating. I am NOT an Xbox 360 fanboy who wants to cause trouble (I’m very neutral about this subject). HOWEVER, my PS3 is still messed up. My only possible answer to this is to link it to the firmware. The socalled coincidental event of users messing up their console (as well as the similar symptoms all over the world) is total bullshit. Let’s try to see the serial numbers of the PS3’s? Who knows it’s build related, some types might get messed up, others might not?

One thing is sure though, my PS3 is pretty much blind and there seems to be no way of getting it fixed other than sending it back to Sony (warranty covered, hoorah! Still it were better not to send it at all !). Video evidence you say? I’ll provide it with much delight and grief, just to make you “grownups” shut up. There are people out there having problems with their PS3’s, for god’s sake acknowledge this as it’s been a problem in the past!

Another thing, I managed to make it through the 2.40 update safely, and as soon as I heard about yet another new update, 2.42, I downloaded it and let it install, only to find out my bluray drive won’t read anything anymore, as stated in my previous post here. I’m one of the guys hoping for a quick fix, or at least some light in this dark tunnel, meaning Sony should inform us whether it is actually a bug in the firmware releases (for certain types of PS3’s) or just a mere “coincident”.

It has made my connection to online games suck
