Sony PS3 2.43 update needed to fix 2.42 firmware

It looks like we will need the Sony PS3 2.43 update much sooner than later as it’s needed to fix the 2.42 firmware. We are getting numerous reports that the latest Playstation 2.42 firmware is causing problems for users.

Personally our PS3 is just fine but then we have not had much time with it since the latest firmware. This is what some gamers have reported to PR:

Well this is totally Effed Up!!! My son decided that it would be a good idea to update the PS3 and he did 2 nights ago without me knowing it. Well now ANYTHING BLURAY does NOT play. NOTHING!!! Doesn’t even recognize the DAMN Disk!!! Is there anything I can do???

Installed this newest update and now nothing works, can not read disks at all. We have done the system restore, etc. now have to wait while it gets shipped to Sony to fix it. Very upsetting, fairly new PS3 (5 months) in excellent condition and was working perfectly prior to update. Extremely frustrating.

Yeah, downloaded it earlier and now I can’t stay connected to a single online game.

Downloaded the update and all my saves on cod 4 single player have gone and when I name my perks online as soon as I switch my PS3 off they disappear and have to name them again.

Have you been having problems with the latest PS3 firmware?

spyder2k6 you are kind of an idiot. One reason is for the incoherrent grammar you use. Secondly blaming people that they shook their PS3’s or whatever nonsense you were talking about…thats jsut asinine. Many people have had this problem, including myself. I have taken prestine care of my PS3; always shutting it down when not in use; well ventilated, and cleaned often.

Not exactly sure why you are blaming people and accusing them of having ADF ( ADD?) and treating their $600 machine like dirt

hey i updated my ps3 and now every time i fart lightning comes out my butt.
get a life somtimes things break.

  3. JOEmama says:

jay32 - the diference between things breaking because of wear and tear is acceptable. When things break because of a manufacturers faulty design ( this firmware update crashing PS3 blu-ray drives) then its the manufacturers responsibility to fix it if they want to keep selling their product, maintain relations with their customers, and their business partners ( i.e. game developers and bluray movie distributers).

So instead of lighting your farts all day…..think a little.

i cannot believe some of the idiotic posts i read in this article. some are saying “maybe it’s xbox 360 fanboys trying to mess with Sony” and some say “quit whining and blaming it on the firmware”. and some say “the firmware update has nothing to do with your blu-ray drive”. come on folks, what do you think “firmware” is? it’s a software update that can affect your hardware (whether for better or for worse).

to tell you the truth, i think SONY doesn’t want to admit to their mistakes of not testing the firmware, so they have these idiots (fanboys) on here saying that it’s not the firmware’s fault that the PS3 is not reading discs anymore. my PS3 doesn’t read discs because i bought it AS-IS on ebay, haha. i will wait a little longer to see if SONY actually releases a firmware fix, and maybe i can try that to see if it will fix that issue. if not, then i’ll just put it back on ebay.

almost like my 2003 altima… it was recalled for the crankshaft sensor being faulty (because it’s made out of plastic, cuz they were too cheap to use metal). and get this, nissan doesn’t cover the replacement of the crankshaft sensor and you would have to pay the dealership $300 to do so. the freakin’ part only costs $30. i just went out and bought the part and got my local mechanic to do it for me. total cost was around $50.

the problem is that we are getting “DUMB” engineers working on electronics, cars, and all other stuff that we use each day. it’s called “laziness”. they don’t want to make stuff better, they just want to hurry up and do their “job” and get “paid”. same way with doctors. they will just send you home and tell you that you have a cold. 3 days later you are lying dead in the hospital bed because you had a virus that wasn’t treated. people just don’t want to actually “WORK” anymore.

just figured i’d put in my 2 cents worth. i’m at work right now, so i’m just killing time.

  5. what_tha_fish says:

speaking of “work”… i’m not doing anything at work either. i’m not being lazy, it’s just FRIDAY. haha. sucks that i can’t afford a PS3 cuz’ i have 3 kids and a wife to take care of and all the money goes to that. i do, however, have an xbox 360 that i put on my best buy card 2 years ago. i’m not a fanboy cuz i love both systems, but there’s just so many damn good games on the xbox 360… bring it on.

The day 2.42 came out my Blu Ray discs would freeze at random points. I checked 10 discs all with the same result. I later updated to 2.43 with no improvement. I preformed every fix 3+ times with no result.

This morning I called customer service. I was told since my warranty is out of date, I would have to pay $150 to get it fixed. I had my call escalated to James (48408) who stated there is no problem with the firmware, I’m just unlucky. After insisting for and hour and a half that my system be fixed for free, the CSR hung up on me.\

Not being one to quit, I called right back. I was told that James was the only senior staff on site, I said I was fine speaking to him again. After being put on hold for 45 min+ I spoke with Mike Folden, James’ boss. He told me that he just stopped in quickly - which of course must be true, plenty of CSR’s stop in to work on a weekend just for fun.

Mike gave me the same line, there is no firmware problem, pay up or hang up. I let Mike know that I am aware that many people are having this same problem, and that two of my relatives have experience the same problem with the system being out of warranty in addition to many others on this forum. I let Mike know that others have had their fee waived. He denied this, stating that they never waive the fee, ever.

Calling on my past CSR experience, I asked him to run a quick check on specific case numbers which show that they have in fact waived this fee for many people with this specific problem. He stated this was not possible.

At this point I told him how to look it up on the system he was using, he said ‘well I could do that, but I am not going to’. I asked him why he would not bother to look up two simple case files to prove me wrong, he got very angry.

He very quickly told me that I would get a call back in 3-5 days, and hung up on me mid sentence.

Anyone else have problems like this?

I refuse to give up, I will not pay a penny for a system that they busted.

Well i bought a PS3 just over a week ago. It was fine for the first few days until i installed the update. Then it started crashing while trying to load games and now wont even recognize when a blue-ray disc is in the console. At least its so new i can just get it replaced, i feel sorry for those who’s warranty has run out.

I was told that the update tells the laser to read at a faster rate than possible, and this is causing some lasers to burn out. I assume there has to be a pre-existing weakness, otherwise everyones would be going wrong.

Just got off the phone with Sony, 149 + tax for servicing.

  9. gutwrenchfacebuster says:

Has anyone tried using the PS3 restore menu? (if you don’t know, it was introduced in version 2.5,you access it by pressing and holding the power button til it beeps twice) There’s options to restore the file system and to rebuild the database.
I’ve just finished restoring the system from a usb back-up after restoring the file system, don’t know yet if it’s fixed anything. Rebuilding the database takes ages so I haven’t tried it.
Once again, to anyone who’s still saying these problems are nothing to do with the firmware upgrades, SHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUP! YOU KNOW NOTHING!!!!!!

  10. LISTEN says:

I AM GOING TO SAY THIS SO LISTEN TO ME THOSE OF YOU WHO DO NOT BELIEVE. I BOUGHT MY 80G PS3 CAUSE THE 360 CRASHES. I BOUGHT RESISTANCE 2 AND WAS FORCED TO UPDATE TO 2.42 OR THE GAME WOULDN’T PLAY. ONE WEEK AFTER THE UPDATE MY PS3′S BRAIN IS SCRAMBLED. IT WILL SHUT OFF WHILE TRYING TO START UP. THE PROBLEM IS REAL. CONSOLE WAS FLAWLESS AND PLAYED ALL GAMES WITHOUT HEAT OR PROBLEMS FOR MONTHS. ONE WEEK AFTER UPDATE AND ITS GONE. NO COINCIDENCE.
