Rage Xbox 360 Imperfections: Sony PS3 fine thanks to Blu-ray

Notice his words LOOKING smother… is that the same as running smother?
More space more detail… I got that part. But this is a game not a picture and games need lots of general purpose power… Not some floating point picture power. Show me a game that both Looks? better and runs better on the PS3.

John’s just hoping to get MS to cut him a break on the costs of the 3 disk… but the game will be just the same on both.

Development and Tool: It’s almost unequivocal across the board that the 360’s a better platform to develop for.

GPU: On almost anything on the strictly graphical side, in terms of pushing vertexes and triangles on there, the 360’s hardware is superior to the PS3’s RSX.
If you’re just pushing allot of fragments across it, the 360 will be faster in almost all cases.
You have to kinda push hard for it to find cases where the graphics side would ever be any better [on the PS3].

CPU’s: . Given a finite time of development time it’s much, much easier to get things working well on the 360 than it is on the PS3, and that’s pretty much the case across the board.
Memory: The other major difference is the memory partitioning, and one of the biggest things that Sony does poorly for developers is their system stuff sucks up allot more resources than Microsoft’s does on the 360, so memory is MUCH more painful on the PS3.We spend a lot more time trying to crunch down the memory for that, as well as optimizing up the graphics rasterization for performance.

Storage: That’s the only real advantage that the PS3 has over the 360 from our point of view is the extra space.

Jack you are so wrong its not even funny. Ps3 does need more to pull out of it and at the current time it is harder to create games for but If that time is taken you can get more out of it. Even carmack said that the fact is there getting better at making games for the ps3 and they keep looking better and better look at killzone and mgs4 is amazing. The fact is with ps3 and blu-ray the future is bright for the ps3 and cooling off big time for the 360. Mabey you are the type of person who needs that HAAA HAAA I told you so but the fact remains there are many positve things happening for the ps3 and less for the 360, as it sells less than the ps3 even in america now you will start to she the huge shift as we all know if theres enough money going arround there will be people making great games. Ps3 has a lot to offer think about that the next time you act as if the older 360 is a beast that cant be beat.

whow there. now there a fine line between clamming that something is better to develop for and something that is EASY. the 360 is very similar to a PC so it is not to hard to make games for both. MGS 4 has proven that Games tailored on the PS3 can Produce remarkable results but multi platform game are a different kettle of fish. when you make game and lead with the 360 there is a reduction in quality, its like wear and tear as you move it to the next place. but results were improved as time went on and you learnt tricks and how things work in the PS3 to the point you lead on the 360 and you got grate results (burnout paradise is a example) The are things in common with the PS3 and the 360 but you can have the power of the gods but if you don’t know how to apply it then your gong nowhere.

Its like trying to drive on ice. screw vectors and points per second and gigahertz if you cant under stand how to make it work and work well then you’ll have to try harder and make it work.

Jack is quoting Carmack Himself, i’ve read the inerview myself and this is indeed what Carmack said so why is Jack wrong? If you believe someone is wrong that person would be Carmack but you choose only to believe the things he says that suit you.
The author of this thread failed to point out that Carmack was angling to get concessions from MS to bring it out on three discs at no extra cost to himself and said that if he chose to compress in onto two discs some graphics might suffer slightly, this was nothing more than politics from Carmack to gain concessions but Alan those to leave that part out.

Jack & Jay, why dont u guy’s just accept that it’s gonna PLAY and LOOK better on PS3. Thats what the guy said and he’s the lead programmer, I have no doubt that he knows a hell of a lot more than u guy’s know, or claim to know.
Stop blowing your 360 trumpet cos there aint no body listening.

Isn’t it funny how the developer knows exactly what he’s talking about, except when Jack quotes him word for word saying that the Xbox 360 is the superior platform in all aspects apart from Blu-Ray. lol. PS3 fanboys are so dumb they own themselves.

Nate we won’t give in the the gay power of the PS3. The PS3 might have its advantages with the Blu-Ray but the true power remains on the PC and 360 this has been proven countless times, stop being a fanboy and get your damn facts straight! By compressing the data on 2 dvd’s it will look very similar to the PS3. This has happened before with other developers saying the games won’t look so great on the 360 and when it was released it happened to look exactly the same as the PS3, take Rockstar with GTA IV as an example. I’m not worried much because come release day the game will have been tweaked to look amazing on 360…

No my friends. What has been proven is that if devs choose to put just a little more time into a ps3 title, then it will be far superior than anything the 360 could hope 2 achieve. mgs4, drake, tools of destruction, and many more 2 come. This is a fact gentlemen.
And when that dev says its a superior platform, he means it’s easy to program for, just like a pc. Ps3 takes a little longer cos the technology is new, and they’r just starting to get the hang of it. and also he is sucking up 2 m$ so they will put it on 3 disks instead of 2, so he’s gonna big up the 360, isnt he. check it out and then correct yourself.

I can’t believe something as trivial as a game being on 1 or 2 discs brings out the irrational fanboi warrior spirit in mostly it would seem die hard PS3 supporters.

Who cares, you get up to a certain bit in the game and swap the disc, now you play the game on disc 2 never having to swap discs again. What an inferior system, the fat uncoordinated kid of the consoles Clearly blu-ray with its crippling SONY drm and royalties, slower speed than a 4xDVD and more room for forgettable FMV sequences will be the final nail in the coffin for that pesky 360.

PS3 fanatics are statistically less intelligent, less attractive and to compensate for feelings of inadequacy feel compelled to speak with authority on subjects they clearly have no knowledge in whatsoever. I’m also guessing most of your friends are in fact developers and would explain the sheer depth of knowledge on how inferior the 360 is.

Well for starters both PC and XBOX use the same API (Direct3d) to program any 3D elements which is both widely known and intuitive from a programming perspective and leads to fairly good assembler optimization when compiled on PC GPU architecture. The xbox give fantastic support of their SDK’s with monthly library updates, optimizations and support.
PS3 by comparison jealously guard their most optimized libraries for ‘in house’ development. Have a similar 3D API to direct3d but not as elegant or effortless. Give almost no SDK support which they charge excessively for. Gives only the barest of information on instruction sets for ANYTHING and almost by its nature force programmers into an uncomfortable environment which is why despite having better ‘on paper’ specs the PS3 can only barely keep up with a system 2 years its senior.

Whatever response given will be emotionally charged and factually specious but here’s the COLD HARD TRUTH

XBOX is 2 YEARS OLDER AND 4 GENERATIONS IN ARCHITECTURE BEHIND
XBOX is LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE OF A PS3
XBOX GAMES are $20-30 CHEAPER THAN PS3

AND YET…..

ON EVERY SINGLE MULTI PLATFORM GAME THE ‘MIGHTY’ PS3 _NEVER_ LOOKS OR RUNS NOTICEABLY BETTER THAN THE 360 AND IN FACT OFTEN RUN WORSE!

No amount of fanboi spin can discredit those facts, and many SONY fanatics have gone rabid trying to. You can blame it on those ‘lazy’ developers and recycle the same anecdotal evidence as why the PS3 isn’t delivering all those sweet promises of performance the SONY rhetoric promised for all those years and still is.

The last comment hit the nail on the head, I bought into the hype last month, I had a 360 and decided to buy for the future so I traded to a ps3. WHAT A MISTAKE!! Ps3 still has very few good games, yeayea I know mgs4,resistance,bla bla bla, for every game that the sony fanboys throw out there there is a better one for the 360, after two weeks of realizing I had just purchased a huge expensive bluray player that had a terrible game library, and inferior graphics to the 360, so I got smart and returned it and got a 60 gig 360. Ahhhh. Back to good gaming. Tons of games, tons of exclusives, and all multi platforms look soo much better on the 360, madden 09 check it out on both and tell me what you think. The sad thing for sony is even though the 360 is older and even with the rrod issues, the 360 still blows ps3 out of the water with games, online content and online play! Sorry sony fanboys don’t say I’m a ms fanboy, I just know the best when I see it.
