Final Fantasy VII-2 PS3 remake: What’s all the fuss?

Over the past few months we have heard all the rumors of the impending Final Fantasy VII announcement from Square-Enix. It seems that the ancient rumor of a remake for the PS3 has now resurfaced.

There has been a huge amount of news covering all the information about the game, but it seems that someone has looked at it from another perspective. PSX Extreme has been looking into all the different opinions as to whether there should be a remake, sequel or spin-off.

It is also rumoured that Final Fantasy VII-2 will be coming to the Xbox 360, so will not just be exclusive to the PS3. It seems for this game to prove popular; it is needed on both consoles.

Square-Enix has said that for the FFVII remake to prove popular, the entire original team needs to get back together. PSX Extreme does not believe that this is needed; they said that it was not needed for the prequel.

Do you think that Final Fantasy VII-2 remake is needed, also what is all the fuss anyway?

It has been very difficult for younger gamers and new fans to get their hands on the game. Copies of FFVII are rare and expensive. The reason the original disks can sell for upwards of $100 is the high demand, so it seems reasonable that a remake or at least a re-release would be highly profitable for the publishers.

If a sequel is indeed what S-E is planning, I’m not too sure it could come to the 360 as Sony purchased the rights to FFVII from square before they merged with Enix. If a Sequel is made I will be very disappointed, if a remake is made I will buy a ps3.

I would prefer a remake of the orginal FF7, with slight tweaks i.e. new monsters, new weapons and armours, re-shuffle of items and materia locations and even a extra town or location that doesn’t really effect the storyline. But no not a sequel as there is advent children and derge of cerebus

pleeeeeez s.e. dont do a sequel!!!!!!!!! what are all the fans saying, and for how long? they want a remake!!! if you do a sequel, ffvii will lose all its glory and nostalgia and just become another rpg. it would ruin it just like X-2! LOOK, if you do a complete remake, add a few extra things like stephen was saying, you will not only have an awesome game, but the fans will love you, anyone who has ever HEARD of ffvii will buy it, and s.e’s franchise would become even greater. what do you have to lose? remake a near perfect game into something even better or do some sort of crappy knock off and ruin the whole thing. Guarunteed a remake of fvii would sell better than a sequel or a spin off!!! Try this…. do the remake and then do the sequel. how about that??

I hope this is true! I played this game when it first came out religiously! I would love to summons up some ifirit or leviathon on some fools! I can’t even imagine how awesome it would look! I’m gonna get me a gold chocobo! I spent so much time in that casino that I don’t even know! I remember being amazed by the graphics in that game. I still have my ps1 and the only games i have left for it are FF7 and FF8! both were great! I’d love it to come out on the 360 as well but I bet that it will be ps3 exclusive which sucks for me! I’m either gonna have to trade up systems with a friend for a while or shell out the big bucks for another system! Either which way I hope to play again!

I agree that they should make a remake and then a sequel. The remake will gather attention to new players and satisfy the old fans of the series while also hyping up the sequel if they were to make one. I know i would personally love to play a remake of ff7 with all new graphics

I am a big gamer, and FFVII is by far my most favorite game.
A remake of FFVII would be spectacular as old time gamers such as I, and newer generation gamers can enjoy this masterpiece square has made.

Wouldn’t a remake be better for the psp to continue the story from Crisis Core?
Plus I thought more people owned a psp compared to ps3.

I think a remake would be a far better choice, to be able to enjoy this all time classic game in modern graphics would be amazing

i think a remake would be great, but everyone is only talking about the graphics…. they’re not taking into consideration that mebbie the fighting would be different.my friend said he would only buy it if the fighting style stayed stationary turn based which in my opinion would be a waste the graphics. and it would be nice to have VOICES. and as for the sequel it could take take place long after crisis core and mebbie an additional year after dirge of cerberus. it would of course feature Genesis as the main villian because the of the whole secret ending in dirge of cerberus. or mebbie by some magical miracle Angeal would come back with Zack, and Sephiroth refusing to be only a memory makes his final appearance, then Zack and Angeal fight Genesis and Cloud takes on Sephiroth. seems retarded mebbie but i wouldnt put it past them.. i would still buy it tho…

I think a remake would be a good idea.
the sad truth is that sequels are never as good as their predecessors.
I’m telling you, FFX was just as good a game as FFVII. and i was dying to get my hands on X-2. but it was probably the worst game i have ever played. i was soooo disappointed. i remember thinking that if this was how SQUARE ENIX was going to make games that the FF series was doomed. I believe the ff7 series is just too good to risk. I have played CrisisCore and it is absolutely beautiful.
all i’m saying is dont push it too far.

    Guys,

Think. It does not have to be a remake. I watched AC two times, first time I was disappointed. Second time it rocked.

Expectations were extremely high first time around.

What if - A BIG WHAT IF - Square produced a new story with the same characters years ahead facing a newer enemy?

Fuck sakes, no one whines about Batman and Spiderman facing new foes and guess what - WE LOVE BOTH.

I reckon Square do not have the passion for a new story involving the FF7 crew OR they do not think they can peak the current one - which is hard with Aeris’s death.

    :)

look, ffVII is one of my favorite games (as i’m sure it is for anyone viewing this page) After playing (and loving) FFX and seeing how crappy and disappointing X-2 was I feel a sequel is a poor idea. Over the past few years, Square-Enix has strayed from their normal path and a sequel to VII set up like FFXII would be very annoying. If they can cook up an epic sequel story and keep it interesting i might consider picking it up… maybe. To risk ruining such a good thing is dumb though, plus there is almost no way to keep aeris involved.

Now a remake would be awesome! I’m all for it. If they keep it exactly the same with upgraded graphics i would be happy. It would be cool if they added another WEAPON in though, or maybe let us fight the diamond weapon? who knows…

Someday i would honestly like to see FFI - FF8 remade 9 is fine how it is (very impressive for a ps1 game) Even though the original FF’s get some of their charm from the 2-d graphics, it’d still be fun to have remakes. just a thought.
