What’s new with Sony PS3 Update 2.42?

It seems as if Sony is releasing new updates thick and fast, the latest firmware update is 2.42. So what is new on this new software update?
Once you switch your PlayStation 3 on you will be meet with a message letting you know that there is a new download. We will be taking a look a little later just to see what Sony are giving us with the Firmware Update 2.42 update.
One thing that we do know is that the new software improves the quality of playback for some PS3 and Playstation format software. Until we have a closer look, we can’t really tell you much more.
Let us hope that this update fixes a few security issues, oh and those Call of Duty 4 issues that some gamers had complained about.

Hi, I have just downloaded it and I can’t see a difference expect in when I’m playing call of duty, It doesnt say downloading game settings a lot only for a feew seconds. I am also more connected and not getting games quit because I am dissconnecting from the access point. This update has really helped me now I can finish matches without counting them as a loss with a few seconds to go
NNiiice. tahts awesome.. i hate it whenever im forced to get a loss cuz my teams down and there may be 2 rounds left.. anways.. thanks for the info:)
I’ve just downloaded it…cant really see much of a difference. Hopefully when I play MGS4, I wont get diconnected all the time…because of the error message ‘connection not stable’—–ANNOYING!!!!

Well, bollocks to that!!! I just downloaded the update and within half an hour my ps3 crashed TWICE while playing Call of Duty online… I had to turn it of TWICE cuz it didn’t respond at all! Gaming ain’t fun like that!!

ev1l-ash needs to get a new PS3. The upgrade had nothing to with your PS3 crashing. Dumb a ss.
i have tried to down load it but as i get to 3 % on the finishing download error comes up, 8002f147 says its reconnecting but same thing happens, any one else have this problem or any one have any ideas about fixing it cheer guys
on cod 4 does anyone constantly have problems partying up wiv certain friends for no apparent reason yet have none hooking up wiv anyone else? and has this new upgrade fixed?
yeah, downloaded it earlier and now I cant stay connected to a single online game.
im having the same problem when it gets to 3% on the download it comes up with error 8002645 or something then i cant download it

downloaded the update and all my saves on cod 4 single player have gone and when i name my perks online as soon as i switch my PS3 off they disapear and have to name them again.
it fucked up my online shit too its harder to connect to online game on fifa 08 an most time it just quits half way through its been perfect untill i down loaded that update ps3 only 3 months old sony would wanna get the finger out
Fucked up the COD4 online gaming for me. I get lag on each and every map whether im hosting or not BLAHBLAH

During the gameplay of mgs4 the controller all of a sudden started pressing x like crazy by itself and shutdowned, i turned back on the ps3 and i couldnt even press X [] triangle or Circle , nor the up down left right arrows, and when booting up the ps3, it auto logs on to the first acc, shown, and when i boot up my controller when i press the home button it acts as a X button, the joysticks do work, im going to try a system restore, if this doesnt work, im gunna give sony a hell of a piece of my mind

Well this is totally Effed Up!!! My son decided that it would be a good idea to update the PS3 and he did 2 nights ago without me knowing it. Well now ANYTHING BLURAY does NOT play. NOTHING!!! Doesn’t even recognize the DAMN Disk!!! Is there anything I can do???
Takes. Too. Fucking. Long. To. Download. I know it’s not my connection either because I’ve updated my PS3 in 4 different places across a 30 mile radius (moving house a lot) and it’s always slow, I just seem to have a bad connection to Sonys servers wherever I go, no matter what the size of the download is. Everything else downloads fine, even my shitty xbox three shitsty.

Same thing here. On my ps3, after the update to 2.42 doesn’t read any cd-rom, not blue ray, not dvd, no music. Wow, what an update, must have been written by Microsoft!!!

Well Crap!!! as my ps3 was fine till i got 2.42 ver, it now dose not let me on to the net and it comes up with DNS error which i have tryed every thing and i was told to restore my ps3 and start againe. Can any one help
I restored my PS3 to new and it still doesn’t work with any BluRay Movies or Games since it downloads the most recent UPDATE as it restores…
WTF??? Is there anything to do other than take it back to Best buy and use my Service plan???

Pissed off - unable to sign in since the update
Connection test is OK with obtaning the ip but the testing internet connection is infinate even though i can browse the web in my brower

Yes we need to request that Sony release a new update/patch that will fix these issues. Each time you update the PS3 you will face the same issues depending on what Playstation you have. The only issues that I have is that I have a lot of pixelated play and lag while playing online

Hi. Had same probs with 2.42 regarding blu-ray. i.e won`t read them JESUS!. any way phoned sony and they are sending new machine within 2 days. I guess from now on i`ll hold off a week or so before i download just in case.

I’m connected to the internet but the connection times out when trying to get into PSN.
my internet connection goes everytime i try and download 2.42 and if i do not downlaod it then i can not play cod 4 online :s

Well ive been testing the ps3….
It seems that you can - connet to the wirless router (under nat 2) + acces the internet + but cannot sign in(infinate sign in wait).
But
If you connect directly into the internet (nat 1) you can sign in and everything works
So
To fix this problem we need to give the ps3 nat 1 internet acces
So
I am going to give the ps3 DMZ(Demilitarized Zone) access in the router and everythin should be OK.
I did the update n mostly everthin works the same. Except wen playin COD4 it logs me out n wont let me sign in again.
So i have to re-start it the it lets me

hey everytime i try to go online with call of duty 4 it says
ERROR Trying to set client stat number 290 while connected to a server [clc state=]9! and says ERROR Unable to connect to Activision Matchmaking (Error33)and Unable to connect to Host

You have to restart your system and your modem worked fine for me afterwards
I updated my system to 2.42 and now it no longer recognizes any media from a disc. Same deal here…restoring the system has no effect. The Blu-ray drive is no more.
i cant seem to down load so all in all i cant go to ps3 store to down load any games so wow a $550 dollar peice of junk
Well, I don’t know what you guys are doing wrong. I have one of the first 80 gig ps3’s that came out, and i have not had a single problem playing ps2 or ps games, Except when i try to play my dvd of Crank. It won’t recognize the disk..And I can almost never quit Folding at Home w/out it completely locking up my ps. And after the update 2.42, I’ve had many less issues with GTA4 Multiplayer, and MGS4:SOP. I’m not gloating. I’m just saying.
Well i dont have to buy a new pair of underwear when ever i have an accident i simply wash the skid marks out so we shouldnt have to buy new systems when ever the software designers screw up intentionally or not they should fix it promptly but it would seem sony is following suit to ms to boost system sales in preventing discs from loading properly so i say for all those people in the same boat as me, mail your old dirty underwear to the executives of sony and ms and let them know this just stinks, if we got to go buy new systems we might as well get new underwear while were at it.

uhm my ps3 stopped Playing PS3 Games…But Plays PS2 Games.. Weird huh, i havent tryed a ‘DVD Movie, Or a Audio CD, But i have tryed 10 Diffent games 5 PS2 Games, And 5 PS3 Games, NO PS3 GAMES WILL Work, But all 5 PS2 Games Does… This Update 2.42 Is the cause of it i just know!!! I Might not of ‘Tooken my ps3 apart like others have, But its not a hardware, its a update issue, and it needs to be fixen or token care of some how, some way. Its driving me insane, brought the new ps3 star wars game, and i cant even play it pisses me off, and idk if theres Anyway of getting rid of it, I Know restoring doesn’t ‘Fix it, cus its just restoring LOST Data, And I’m reformanting right now, so i’ll see if this gets rid of it but i dought it ‘its called Format Utility And its slow as hell, Anyways. Im Major pissed. I Spent 500 Buxs on this 8Months, Ago and idk if i can return it to sony, or not cus i accdently removed the warently seal on the side of it ’so I Have No Clue on that part, But i DEMAND A UPDATE FIX CUS IT HAS TO BE THE UPDATE, After the update is when this problem was Happening, and it never happend till than.
My ps3 stopped playing PS3 games and blu-ray…but plays PS2 games and audio CD’s and DVD Movies.
The update 2.42 Is the cause of it i just know it too as the same thing happened to my X-box360.
My X-box360 is in the same state as it plays audio CD’s and DVD Movies.
but won’t play almost all my games except Alaska Hunting and Culdecpt.
I DEMAND A UPDATE TO FIX THE PS3 AND X-BOX360!!!
P.S. My original PS2 and X-box and Dreamcast and 3DO all still work and they never got any updates and are years older.
Yeh i had the same problem, turns out it was hardware failure. It will read dvds but not blue ray disks.
To fix this problem i rang them and told them about it, they asked if it was dropped, i said no, i gave the serial no, they send me a new ps3 and took away the old one.

Well i didnt drop my ps3, or remove my ‘Warnety seal’, but i dont think its a hardware faluire, because ever since 2.40 Updates came out, People have been having Problems, ANd its only a few out of 10 that gets the problem of 40, than 2 xs a few on 2.42 soo i really belive the 40 Versions aren’t so stable as ‘Sony is preclaming, i mean I AM NOT AN XBOX PERSON I HATE XBOXPPL I HATE XBOX, ITS A GAY MACHINE, And has gone back to the store, and ‘Company more than the PS3′S, my Point is, That the PS3 HAS Over 1 Million copies left, and are wanting money out of this.
Anyways Gonna Post again sorry, I Am a true Sony fan And i wouldn’t Lie About these Kinda things, I Never liked Xbox At all..
