Life with PlayStation 3 not in Firmware update 2.42

We spoke this morning about the new Sony PlayStation 3 Firmware update 2.42; well many of you would have had the chance to check it out by now.

The first thing you will notice is that the update does not feature Life with PlayStation. Many had hoped that this news and weather information would have been included with the PS3 update 2.42.

It seems that this new firmware was more about fixing known security issues, instead of giving users what they really want.

There is a positive side to us not getting Life with PlayStation just yet; at least we know that they are spending more time solving issues which could arise with an early release.

It seems as if PlayStation 3 firmware update 2.42 is yet another let down. Have you had a chance to download the update yet, if so what do you think?

Another letdown? What gives with people like you? Did Sony actually SAY that this firmware update would include ‘Life with PlayStation’? No, so keep things in perspective.

Besides, some are hinting that it actually is implemented through Folding@Home (i.e. the globe is now interactive). Haven’t tested it out yet though…

I don’t understand how it was a letdown, considering it wasn’t expected. Noone knew we have an update today, til it was there. Do you guys honestly expect razzle dazzle from every update. I’m actually glad to have a system that continuously improves, no matter what those improvements are. As for Life, I heard it would be out by the end of July, so Sony still has one more day.

i thought that there was gonna be an update tomorrow for life with PlayStation i was kinda surprised that there was one today, so why be let down its like getting an old car without expecting it your not let down. SnazzyD i just check if life with PlayStation was on folding on home and it isn’t. And i agree with KC Sony still has one more day to release life with PlayStation.

well to bad it wont download…
    first attemp stopped after 5%
second after 17%… (which took an hour and a half)

then it said it failed, now it wont connect…
And i’m not alone, 2 of my mates are having this exact same issue…

only one mate has managed to dl it without any issues…

    any one else experiencing this?

Well, I’ll say this. I’d have been totally excited to see Life implemented in this update. However, I wasn’t expecting it and Sony never said it’d be included in this update. Because one idiot in a blog post said you could interact with the globe in F@H, and people keep repeating it without confirming it, now we have a bunch of people all :sad face: that there’s no Life yet. Geez, folks. I’m sure it’ll be awesome when it’s released but these Xbots need to quit spreading disinformation about Sony’s firmware updates. It’s kinda tiresome to have to sift through search results and see the same comments about a false and unconfirmed rumor (ie, F@H, containing Life) over and over again. Fact check this stuff yourself before you start typing gibberish.

I happily updated to 2.40FW, then after the hullabaloo over that firmware bricking a tiny few of the PS3 that it was installed on, I was a bit leery of the 2.41FW but I installed it anyway, and still no issues. This 2.42FW also downloaded and installed without a hitch. I’m so glad I’m not one of those people who seem to have constant issues with their PS3’s and the firmware updates. Of course it seems like any problem like this is overblown. That’s because most people won’t bother to speak up if everything goes smoothly.

So this 2.42 update wasn’t the fulfillment of everyone’s wet dreams. I’d hardly call it a “let down”. It’s a minor update I didn’t expect it to be world shatteringly amazing in a awesome, powerful and revolutionary manner. I don’t think any of the v2.4x firmware updates will be spectacular. Maybe 2.50 will be when we’ll get all the things we really wanted? I know I’m hoping that the 2.50FW will allow me to run my PS3 on the inconspicuous solar panel that covers it’s entire surface so that I don’t have to have it plugged in– I can just keep it near a sunny window. I’m also hoping that the 2.50 update will allow me to use my (ca. 1996) virtual reality goggles so that I can play GTA VIII and feel like I’m really there shooting peeps online with my mini-uzi while my PS3’s new Cell-Broadband PPC run A.I. (named “Snappy”), automagically orders a cup of coffee and some breakfast, just the way I like it, from McDonald’s new PS3-based food delivery service.

It’ll be worth the wait, I’m sure!

By all means, it was a total letdown and you don’t know where I’m coming from: 2.40 update was supposed to be the most anticipated besides Home including In-game XMB and MUSIC. Well we were totally let down on that update and the people that were let down knew about the 2.42 are upset that it didn’t include the In-Game Music which we were all expecting in the 2.40!!!!!!!! SONY has already put themselves in the position where they cannot screw up once more. The updates were horrible and I know PS3 users don’t want an unfinished Home and Life. Because having to wait for certainties in the updates will upset PS3 Gamers

bizzybot hilarious loved your comment and for the record me and all of my mates who own aps3 have had no problems with any updates so yeah ps3 rules

just to remind people, it was announced at E3 that Life with Playstation would be released BY THE END OF JULY! more lies and delays by Sony.

Well, at least it is still better than the Xbox 360. I am making a market on all the wasted 360 by creating a symbol of art, the manure of game console

My son installed this newest update and now nothing works, can not read disks at all. We have done the system restore, etc. now have to wait while it gets shipped to Sony to fix it. Very upsetting, fairly new PS3 (5 months) in excellent condition and was working perfectly prior to update. Extremely fustrating.
