Sirius XM Radio Inc

The merger of US satellite radio giants XM and Sirius completed today and now company will be called “Sirius XM Radio Inc”. The merger took time thanks to a battle with regulators over market competition concerns.

The two companies before the merger were already massive in the radio business. Now the new Sirius XM Radio Inc has more than 18.5 million subscribers, which makes it the 2nd largest radio company in the United States.

Critics had said that this new company would form a monopoly in the satellite and radio industry; they feared that bidding wars for top talent would end.

Sirius XM Radio broadcasts over 300 channels of programming, these include names such as Martha Stewart, Oprah and Howard Stern.

When trading opened today, Sirius XM Radio shares plunged to 1.51 dollars (that’s a loss of 19.68 percent).
