Nintendo Wii friend code privacy problem

Nintendo Wii friend codes
How do you feel about the Nintendo Wii friend codes? Do you think there are problems, well Nintendo think so and have said friend codes aren’t perfect.

They would love to add features that many of you may have already suggested but have one major problem that involves children using the Nintendo Wii.

Privacy online is a big issue and even more so if we are talking about the younger gamer, Nintendo know this and it’s the one thing stopping them improving Wii friend codes.

They do not want children getting harassed and Nintendo want to assure people that safety and security of the gamer comes first.

The Sony PS3 and Xbox 360 have universal I.D.s across all online games, but the Nintendo Wii takes security more seriously and makes gamers insert a 12-digit friend code to play friends online.

If you wish to play strangers on the Wii it will be without the use of codes, we are hearing that improvements will be coming soon to the friend code system on the Wii. You can view other Wii News here.

What would be a good way for Nintendo to protect gamer privacy and encourage community on the Wii?

Nintendo online gaming is great if you know people with a Wii or DS that you can exchange codes with. Unfortunately I know neither so online play is pretty much denied me, except for Mario Kart and the new WWE game. You can play against random strangers.Having said that, codes are a neccessary evil, considering the sort of people you find hiding online these days

First of all Nintendo needs to stop trying to parent other people’s children, who lacks a particular knowledge about a gaming device they’ve bought for little Jimmy. One of the ways they could enhance their online service and in a way add more secruity. Is by the gamer who has a bank card ( to allow to communicate with strangers) such as; Visa or Mastercard etc.

This way parents would need to acknowledge and would ask questions. Every month when they receive their bank statements, they will get a small notification about this particular option, is still in operation and that it can be shut down anytime. Thay will get a unique number every month to disallow their siplings the advance feature. This seems like a brilliant idea to me.

That’s actually a pretty good idea. Also a lot of parents seem to buy games without looking at the age rating. If they paid a bit more attention, we might not get them complaining about violent games being played by 7 year olds. But I digress. As I said, good idea but not all of us adults have a bank or credit card. Sound theory, though.
