Alert Sound Issue: 3G iPhone with 2.0 firmware update

3G iPhone 2.0 firmware issues
It seems that another issue has been found with iPhone 3G’s and first generation Apple iPhones that have updated to firmware 2.0, the Apple discussions area is alive with people confirming they have the same problem as the person that raised the question.

Its to-do with the text-message alert sound going away at certain times after getting the iPhone software 2.0 update. The information below is what one person said their issue was.

I got the iPhone 3G over the weekend, and I’ve noticed that my text-message alert sounds kind of go away. The phone will vibrate, but the alerts don’t sound off.

Before you say anything, yes the phone is on Loud (it’s not on Vibrate), Yes my text message alerts are enabled in settings, and Yes I’ve double checked.

So far the only way I’ve been able to fix this is to restart the phone. Which can get really annoying when you do it over and over.

I THINK that it’s caused by the headphones. I’ve noticed that the text alerts work, but when I plug in the headphones and then unplug them the sounds stop working.

The first problem we found with the iPhone 2.0 software was lag, although this may be tied with applications keeping memory and not releasing it, we still need this fixed.

Ya, I have this same problem although I don’t beleive it has to do with the head phones. I’ve only used my headphones twice and this problem happened before then. I’ve also reset my iPhone since I’ve had head phones in it and it has stopped working again. I’ve found that instead of resetting he iphone you can just select another alert sound and it will work for a while but it still stops working eventually.

Here is a link that might help other people with the same problem regarding SMS alerts..

same issue here. just got the phone a week ago. I’ve never had headphones plugged in. I think it usually goes out after i have switched from silent (just vibrate) to normal sound (flickin the switch on the top left). All other sounds work (incoming call, new email, keypad buttons, etc) It will vibrate when i get a new sms message. If I just turn it off (holding down top right button) and turn it back on again it starts working fine. So far its happened 2-3 times in the 6 days i’ve had the phone. Any ideas if this is a software or hardware issue? I’ve only used the 2.0.2 firmware, but looking back at forums this issues seems to have been around for awhile.

My phone has been doing this since the first week I bought it. I just noticed for the second day Ina row now that I wake up and the sound has stopped working while I sleep with it charging. Yesterday I noticed because my alarm clock only vibrated. Had to reset it and then today I just woke up and noticed same problem,, same fix. But it’s so annoying! I love the phone and use it all day so I have to charge it at night but I want to use the alarm and hear my sounds without resetting it all the time!
