We are hearing of a few users that are having problems with the iPhone 3G-battery life, its being reported that the battery life on Apple’s new phone will not last the whole day.
We know the 3G iPhone uses a lot more power than 2G, but uses have said they have to keep a charger at work and plug in the iPhone so it lasts the whole day.
On Apple’s support area one user posted “iPhone 3G Battery Life Really Short- Please Help” and it’s had over 1,176 views with other users reporting similar problems.
You can view the discussion here on Apple; this is what some of the iPhone users have said.
I got my phone yesterday and charged it for 12 hours overnight after it drained completely. I unplugged it at 11:30 this morning I used it frequently throughout the next day, and had WiFI and 3G on the whole time. I am using MobileMe so I have push email enabled, so there is no checking interval. The battery was completely drained by 8 p.m. this same day, 8 and a half hours after unplugging it. Granted I was using it a lot throughout the day, but that still seems much shorter than my original iPhone’s battery life. Do I have a bad battery in need of replacement, or is this normal?
That sounds about right to me. That battery life has been my experience as well. I now keep a charger at work and plug in my phone so it lasts the whole day. Of course if you are a student going from class to class this can be a bit more difficult.
Have you found the iPhone 3G to have bad battery life?

I have returned one 3G phone - battery died after 52 minutes talk time and airplane mode for 8 hours travelling across the country. Did not play games or use at all during 8 hours of flying. Died shortly after turning on.
New 3G not much better. I am keeping spreadsheet of daily use. BEST times turning OFF 3G, Location, & wifi OFF. PUSH of manual checks of email. About 3 hours talk time and 12 hours stby. Still not as good as the original iphone?
Of course it won’t last a day. If you listen to music, play solitaire, check email, browse the web before even making any phone calls, you can expect about 3-5 hours of battery life. I don’t think it’s a battery problem. It’s inherent in any power-hog device like the iPhone — and I’ve owned both the 2G and 3G.
Hi — Just checking to see if I was alone on this. My friend is considering getting the iPhone 3G, and as great as the internet access is and the look and feel, if email is your primary use, it seems Blackberry is much better at this point.
Besides the battery — It took me a full working day to figure out how to get the iPhone to work properly with Entourage. You need to change from a POP server setting to an IMAP server setting — and good luck asking someone at Apple or AT&T what the proper send and receive addresses are. (Receiving IMAP server is mail.me.com — Sending I think is smtp.me.com but I never could get the firewall setting right so I just used my old one. If you don’t get the receiving one right, your mail will just disappear from your inbox before you read it. Apple knows about the problem, tells you to change your settings, but doesn’t give the address and apparently hasn’t told its staff about it.)
i bought my iphone 2 days ago and it charged fine using the plug device, but today it only works with the usb in the computer and not the plug, what shall i do?
My colleague and I both got iPhones in July and don’t use it that much (Location off, hour of email daily (maybe), almost no web-surfing and kept dim). Last two days, the battery lasts about 5 hours before being completely drained. This is with almost no use! Not even 2 phone calls. Something is going on and anyone having this problem needs to keep replying–strength in numbers…Thanks.

I just got the apple 3G iphone and had it on charge all night fully charged, i didn\’t use it all day no calls. In the afternoon at 5 pm after unplugging it at 9 am this morning I couldn\’t get it to work, I thought great i brought a faulty iphone i couldn\’t get it to do anything, it wasn\’t flat to look at but wouldn\’t allow a pin and didn\’t respond frozen. My husband said \”your phone is flat,\” how can it be, FLAT, I haven\’t even used it, but sure enough we plugged it in, and 2 mins later it was responding and wasn\’t faulty at all… I cant believe it, sooooo disappointing for mac.. did they sell out to someone like bill gates??? because id expect that from them… now im going to have to buy at least two backup batteries kinda like changing a babies bottom, nappy for my 3G apple sad sad.
I am definitely encountering battery life issues with my iphone 3g…..any help out there?
my iphone usually lasts like 3-4 hours along with about 24hours of standby…..once it had 4days of standby and 3hours……is this normal because i checked my dads iphone yesterday and in settings it said that he had 3something hours of use and there was still about 2/3 of the battery left
same here. all facing the same problem, so conclusion is the batt is not the problem but the phone sucks every single bit of the power. nothing can be done, power management is vital, put it on sleep mode once done with the phone and switch off the vibrator & lower the screen brightness. that would help to safe some power.
too bad that its how it works, but i phone is the best ever phone ever built!
