Time of iPhone 2.0 software update

Time of iPhone 2.0 update
Many iPhone owners are sitting waiting for the iPhone 2.0 software update download like a big kid waiting for a new toy at Christmas, like ourselves they are wondering what time the Apple iPhone 2.0 update will be available?

Do you know what time the new firmware for the iPhone will become available? We have looked for information on this to let our readers know but have come up blank.

What we do know is that you can get the iPhone v2.0 software online and download as a .zip file; other sites have tried this update and said after installing all was working perfectly without any problems.

If you do not mind taking a risk then you can download the iPhone 2.0 software here, but we prefer to wait for the official release that’s downloaded via your iTunes software and again, the release time is not yet known.

You can view the new Apple app store here, although you will have to update iTunes to version 7.7. The apps look very cool with over 30 pages of iPhone applications to play with.

Would you wait for the official release or take a risk with the link above?

Update:
Now Available via iTunes: iPod Touch and iPhone 2.0 update

  4. feraL. on July 11th, 2008 1:45 pm

  5. andrew on July 11th, 2008 1:45 pm

  6. feraL. on July 11th, 2008 1:51 pm

yes!!! now it won’t even restore back to 1.1.4…. I have done no jailbreaking or any hacks - THIS SUCKS!!! andrew, did yours finish successfully? I was waiting for the official iTunes release and I did and now I can’t get it to work…. unbelievable. I’m late for work.

  7. Jerry on July 11th, 2008 1:55 pm

Don’t know where you are getting it. My iTunes says my 1.1.4 is the latest no updates available.

  8. Declan on July 11th, 2008 1:58 pm

My phone has died. What is wrong

  9. matt on July 11th, 2008 1:59 pm

download isn’t working. when the beta (yes - it’s a beta) version is downloaded through any of the various wesites that indicate you can dowload the new software now - a folder downloads which is titled “iPhone1,2_2″. when opened, the folder has another folder titled “firmware”, 2 .dmg’s and a file titled “restore.plist.” None of these may be used to install the software. and yes, I did go trough iTunes and held the option key (on my mac) as I selected “check gor updates.” no executavle file or renamed file (to end in .ipsw instead of .zip) is offerred to be selected in order to install the new software.

    aggravating…

  10. andrew on July 11th, 2008 2:03 pm

no now mine is frozen trying to download something

  11. matt on July 11th, 2008 2:04 pm

9am EST and no update yet available through iTunes. if anyone knows when the 2.0 software will become available or what the holdup is - give a shout… steve? you out there? what’s going on little buddy…?

  12. matt on July 11th, 2008 2:07 pm

ahhhhh! success! download in progress. christmas! i will get to play monkey ball today at my work desk after all…

  13. paul on July 11th, 2008 2:10 pm

i heard they are waiting for the iphone 3g to go on sale in california before they release the 2.0 update - 11a.m. est

  14. paul on July 11th, 2008 2:16 pm

i just clicked the ‘check for update’ button and itunes says it is available now (i’m in nj, 9:16a.m. est)!!

  15. AwesomeO on July 11th, 2008 2:18 pm

Dude. WTF. This is not going smoothly

  16. Declan on July 11th, 2008 2:23 pm

Phone will only make emergency calls after update installed. What can I do please help.

  17. Jerry on July 11th, 2008 2:32 pm

Finally got the update available. Maybe I will wait till later to see if anyone gets it to work properly.

  18. matt on July 11th, 2008 2:38 pm

has been updating. seems to have gone through all the steps successfully, though, in iTunes, under devices, a window is displayed “Accessing iTunes Store” for last 10 minutes… I am connected to iTunes through WiFi… hmmmm…

paul - how is yer update goin?

  19. ben on July 11th, 2008 2:41 pm

itunes store is timing out - wtf!

  20. matt on July 11th, 2008 2:44 pm

my phone is currently displaying the prompt to connect to itunes through the cable and reads “slide for emergency.” I have not disconnected my iPhone from the cable - i am afraid to disrupt the installation, but were goin on 20 minutes of “Accessing the iTunes store.” Has anyone else had this prob? Declan - is this what happened w/ u and you pulled the plug leading to yer phone only being able to make emergency calls…?

  21. paul on July 11th, 2008 2:45 pm

i’m at the same point matt.. the update was successful, but the itunes store is timing out when it’s trying to activate the device - probably because so many iphone 3g’s are being activated. just gonna keep trying

  22. paul on July 11th, 2008 2:47 pm

the update was successful - this is what the phone looks like out of the box.. it needs to access itunes to activate. you can disconnect it if you need to

  23. ben on July 11th, 2008 2:47 pm

Matt and Paul - same on this end. I must have unplugged and replugged 20 times and it times out each time. The ITunes store is drowning….

  24. paul on July 11th, 2008 2:48 pm

things will calm down - i’m just going to keep trying intermittently

  25. Izzy on July 11th, 2008 2:50 pm

“Accessing the iTunes store.” issue here as well….been waiting for 30 mins. I can access the iTunes Store through the Store link on iTunes but my phone can’t.??????

  26. ben on July 11th, 2008 2:50 pm

agreed - but now I’ve got a brick on my hands… argh

  27. matt on July 11th, 2008 2:50 pm

ohhh - makes sense… well - guess who’s gonna be reeeeeeeally late for work today!?

    paul - where r u in nj? i’m in philly…

  28. paul on July 11th, 2008 2:52 pm

i’m 5 minutes from center city in mount ephraim (near haddonfield?).. i have off every other friday and today is one of them.

sucks the phone is stuck in the pre-activation mode, but we should have expected this with all the traffic

  29. ben on July 11th, 2008 2:54 pm

    OK - now I’m getting a message that says it can’t get a secure connection. That’s new…

  30. paul on July 11th, 2008 2:56 pm

    hmm.. interesting.

i will let you know if/when i get anything different then the timeout message

  31. Izzy on July 11th, 2008 2:57 pm

    got error -9838 unknown error

  32. ben on July 11th, 2008 3:01 pm

double checked all options which are good to go. Perhaps it is now their SSL certs that are clogged… I think they are often a bottleneck…

  33. paul on July 11th, 2008 3:02 pm

mine is “restoring iphone from backup”

    mine got through

    “sync in progress”..

    “waiting for activation”
    “this may take some time.”

  34. paul on July 11th, 2008 3:04 pm

halfway done ‘restoring iphone from backup’..

  35. ben on July 11th, 2008 3:05 pm

yup - I got through the backup, restore, sync, and firmware - but when it goes to itunes to activate it is erroring out….

  36. Declan on July 11th, 2008 3:07 pm

Yes I am getting that Matt, Was told to uninstall 7.7 and resinstall, But cant get into the down load to do that.

  37. paul on July 11th, 2008 3:07 pm

no, i am going through the activation process now. i got past the timeout error in itunes.

    ACTIVATED!!

  38. paul on July 11th, 2008 3:08 pm

it activated, now it is putting my music and videos back on

  39. paul on July 11th, 2008 3:09 pm

just keep trying guys.. eventually you get through

  40. Izzy on July 11th, 2008 3:09 pm

how did you get through the error?

  41. ben on July 11th, 2008 3:10 pm

    HOW?

  42. Declan on July 11th, 2008 3:11 pm

I have removed iTunes on the advise from a Apple rep now I cant get the down load it again.

  43. Izzy on July 11th, 2008 3:11 pm

    Me too!!!!!!!!!!!

    AWESOME!!!!!!

  44. paul on July 11th, 2008 3:12 pm

i just kept dismissing the timeout error in itunes and repeatedly tried connecting the phone - after about 45 minutes it started the activation process and sync’d with all the backup data

  45. Declan on July 11th, 2008 3:13 pm

go to the irish Apple site if you need to load iTunes again.

    http://www.apple.com/ie/itunes/download/

  46. ben on July 11th, 2008 3:15 pm

did anyone get past the ssl error?

  47. matt on July 11th, 2008 3:16 pm

i tried un-connecting and then reconnecting. the “accessing itunes” went to an error message. did it a few more times, same thing. though, just now reverted back to the continued: “accessing itunes” message along with the sideways twisting barber-shop pole. waiting.

paul - i frequent mt ephraim from time to time to visit my friend Blair. used to go to Guiseppe’s on monday nights… small world

  48. paul on July 11th, 2008 3:19 pm

that’s too funny - i worked at the cvs across the street for 8 years.. now, after college, i have a real job

  49. paul on July 11th, 2008 3:23 pm

    syncing downloaded applications now

  50. matt on July 11th, 2008 3:24 pm

i’m get’n error message “Could not connect to the iTunes store (-9838) Please try again later.”

  51. matt on July 11th, 2008 3:25 pm

    hey! sync in progress!

  52. ben on July 11th, 2008 3:27 pm

hey - me too. It finally went through and is now doing a final sync. w00t!

  53. Declan on July 11th, 2008 3:32 pm

Just got a email from apple telling me that iTuens is down and this is causing the problem……………..

  54. matt on July 11th, 2008 3:38 pm

thx guys - good luck. let us know yer favorite apps! i’m stoked about controlling my apple TV (and mac, etc) from anywhere in the house (through WiFi) via the apple remote app…

  55. Declan on July 11th, 2008 3:39 pm

Why am I the only one still having this problem.

This is the error I am getting.

We could not complete your iTunes Store Request. The network connection timed out.

is this what you guys got

  56. matt on July 11th, 2008 3:55 pm

yeah - that one and the one i referenced above. just keep connecting and re-connecting till it works. seems thats how pul and i were able to get through. iTunes is most likely just inundated w/ traffic right now…

  57. Rich on July 11th, 2008 4:04 pm

I just clicked “check for update”, and it worked! I clicked download and install, but now it’s not doing anything. What’s happening?

  58. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 4:35 pm

Mine’s stuck restoring, been doing so for 2 hours. How long is the install time on the gen1?

  59. Tom on July 11th, 2008 4:41 pm

It is 11:39 am EST in Florida. My iTunes is still showing 1.1.4 as latest version. Am I the only one with this problem?

  60. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 4:44 pm

tom, did u download the newest version of itunes?

  61. David on July 11th, 2008 4:54 pm

wow…this stinks. i’m supposed to be on the road going out of town and now i can’t leave because i have an iphone that doesn’t work. same issue not getting through to itunes store.

  62. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 4:56 pm

    going on 2.5 hours… anyone?

  63. Jade on July 11th, 2008 5:05 pm

lol this sucks im stuck with the timed out thing i just eventually keep clicking back and fourth lol Jeff most people are having that same problem. I read on another page that someone said just keep clicking on music and back to iphone to restart progress… and it worked for them but it took them an hour… im still stuck going on to an hour and a half this is just great… now my phone is just dead lol… no calls incoming or out :(

  64. Jade on July 11th, 2008 5:07 pm

this sucks…. im going to just leave it alone and be without a phone thanks apple!

  65. Tom on July 11th, 2008 5:23 pm

    Jeff.
Yes I have the 7.7 version. But for some reason it wasn’t working. I just checked again and now it is downloading from iTunes.

  66. luis on July 11th, 2008 5:23 pm

It is 9:22 Pacific time and still waiting

  67. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 5:25 pm

Im getting very aggitated. My gen 1 iphone has been ‘restoring’ for almost 3 hours after attempting to install the 2.0 firmware What to do, what to do? Im about to just throw it out the window.

  68. Tom on July 11th, 2008 5:32 pm

My download took 3 minutes. Now it is installing the software. Let see how long this will take for me. . .

  69. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 5:35 pm

LEt me clarify, the download took very little time… this is the install i have been waiting on for 3 hours… screw Apple vs PC… nothing is ever seamless

  70. Tom on July 11th, 2008 5:39 pm

10 minutes to prepare the iPhone software. Now it is verifying

  71. Tom on July 11th, 2008 5:40 pm

Ok, it is now restroing……. Time: 12 minutes.

  72. Tom on July 11th, 2008 5:41 pm

I mean 12 minutes since installation has started.

  73. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 5:41 pm

Please let me know if it finishes… thnx

  74. Tom on July 11th, 2008 5:43 pm

Complete. It is now 15 minutes since begining of installation. It is now restarting.

  75. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 5:44 pm

ok, so i cant just eject or X out of itunes, i am afraid to close in task manager… POS

  76. Tom on July 11th, 2008 5:44 pm

My iPhone went dead during restart. I have an error message in iTune: ” iTunes was unable to load provider data from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again.”

  77. Tom on July 11th, 2008 5:47 pm

Now I can only make emergency calls and my iPhone shows the iTune and USB cable asking me to connect to iTune. When I connect to iTune, I get the same error as above.
I will restart my computer and the iPhone and see if that will help. I will keep posting.

  78. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 5:48 pm

Well shit, looks like nothing is seamless… I give up trying to figure this crap out. Apple and PC will NEVER work together. Let me know if you are able to successfully install…

  79. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 5:50 pm

I give up… Apple and PC will NEVER work seamlessly… good luck, let me know if u get anywhere with this crap.

  80. Berry on July 11th, 2008 5:55 pm

Same issue here Tom…. Cant they make sure this crap works before releasing it or at least give me the option of using the old version. I cant even call apple to tell them how they have screwed up. Someone make the call for me.

  81. Tom on July 11th, 2008 5:55 pm

I’m getting the same error even after restarting my PC and reseting the iPhone. I will call apple for support.

  82. Berry on July 11th, 2008 5:56 pm

Let me know how that goes.

  83. Jennifer on July 11th, 2008 5:57 pm

    hi tom:

    exact same situation

    did restarting computer help??

  84. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 5:57 pm

FYI - after closing ituned in task manager, restarting itunes, and plugging in iphone… it shows my iphone in restore mode and says i need to finish restore which takes me back to firmware 1.1.4… so looks like i will have to whipe my phone install the old firmware, then try the new firmware again. YAY!! POS

  85. Shem on July 11th, 2008 6:07 pm

ummm…I don’t have it yet. I’m in the UK though so that might have something to do with it. Where in iTunes do you find it?

  86. Tom on July 11th, 2008 6:13 pm

This is absolutely BS. There is no one at Apple support to help us at this time. Now my phone is completely dead. This is why I don’t buy anythign from Apple. This iphone is my first and LAST apple product.

  87. Shem on July 11th, 2008 6:13 pm

I have iTouch by the way…I heard we’re supposed to purchase the software…

  88. Shem on July 11th, 2008 6:18 pm

will the “Check for Update” option work for the iTouch?

  89. Tom on July 11th, 2008 6:21 pm
  90. Tom on July 11th, 2008 6:44 pm

This company cannot handle its own customers. I have been trying to activate my iPhone for an hour now but their server is still BUSY….. I wonder how they can provide the me.com service to their customers???? Probably their entire network will crash with me.com. This is a great proof that their project manager and other management team at Apple really don’t care about their customer’s time and convenience. They don’t really care to this far that their tech support don’t even answer your phone calls. Their customer service ENDS when they sell the product and you are stuck with them. So, my advice, NEVER BUY ANY APPLE PRODUCT. iPhone was my first apple product that I have ever owned. It will be my LAST Apple product.

  91. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 8:06 pm

Bwahahahahahaha… the evil apple stikes again! Just have to wait fellas (& gals). They’ll have the servers up in no time… [jk]

  92. Tom on July 11th, 2008 8:09 pm

Finally my phone is updated and running now. I don’t know why Apple can’t release anything smoothly without a pain for consumers….

  93. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 8:12 pm

    It’s rolling…

  94. Jeff on July 11th, 2008 8:22 pm

bastards took 2.0 down, for my gen 1

  95. blackprince97 on July 11th, 2008 8:35 pm

Boy I really wish they’d resolve these server issues. I really want to download some stuff off the apps store. Just think of the hundreds who are waiting to download stuff from the apps store but can’t cause Apple can’t get their act together.

  96. iJah420 on July 11th, 2008 9:41 pm

I am curious as to what platform you all a on. My gut tells me that Windows users are having a tougher time than OSX users. maybe its time for a new Mac.

BTW if you REALLY want to you can run XP… Oh I mean Vista on that Mac ;)

    iJah420 RELAX!

  97. Fred on July 11th, 2008 10:40 pm

i cant find a link in itunes but i found one on macworld’s website and all it does is make itunes start loading then stops and doesnt do anything and when i click check for update in itunes it keeps telling me current version 1.1.4 : HOW DO YOU DOWNLOAD 2.0
