Since Sony PS3 2.41 Firmware: Call of Duty 4 Crashes

We have all heard about the problems of the Sony PS3 2.40 firmware update and the fact that Sony even pulled this update and went back to just 2.36. Personally I managed to update to 2.40 before they pulled it but as I mostly play Call of Duty 4, I did not see any problems with this firmware release.
Yesterday I updated to firmware 2.41 from 2.40, then after playing Call of Duty 4 for around 10 minutes it crashed when trying to go back to lobby after a game.
This is the first time COD4 has crashed on me and I have clocked up over 150 hours of game time, I thought nothing of it and forced my Playstation 3 to restart by turning the power off.
After another 30 minutes of gameplay, four friends decided to play a private match and on entering that game, COD4 crashed again on me.
Each time the crashes happened the PS3 completely froze, the only way to get access again was to turn the system off and on again.
While I have no way of knowing why these crashes happened, its strange they have happened after updating to firmware 2.41. Has anyone else had any problems with Call of Duty 4 and firmware 2.41 if they updated from 2.40?

I dont have the same router either, but I changed my ps3 address to 192.168.1.250, then set up the router to recognize the address, then opened up port forwarding on my router under game settings. Then went back to my PS3 settings and manually put in all the addresses. So now when I play COD4 it has different ports. It did work for me. Hopefu;lly it will for you.I have a actiontec, model M1424wr router.
My PS3 now gets right into public games without that downloading setting problem.

You don’t need to address IP manually.
If your experiencing problems do following:
Reset your router to factory settings. This can be done via push in button in the back of the router. Hold it until the lights on the router go off then on, then release.
Now log in into your routers admin page there should be a section for advance network settings or application and gaming. Enable NAT/PAT or TCP/UDP.

Don’t forget to secure your router with password.
I use wired connection to my PS3 and I found to have less issues compare to wireless…
Hope that helps,

I am trying it out now, its still pretty confusing but i think im getting it lol! thanks for all the help ^^
Ive had this problem over the past few days too.
My PS3 has been fine for well over a year now sinse i first bought it but it now crashes when im online on COD4. First the sound goes and then when i finish the game with no sound it crashes and then it will require being restarted from the switch at the back. After that it sometimes doesnt even read the disk again, or has the 80010514 error come up. I leave it for a while and then it all happens again. Ive even tryed using my friends COD4 and its the same with that one.
Any help?
Hey fellas…I need help!
I just bought my COD4 last night and I popped it in this afternoon to try it out. I started a new game and was brought through the tutorial. Halfway during the tutorial, (the part when the captain asks you to storm through a house with an MP5 and flash grenades), I realized that the sound was muted. I tried increasing the volume but nothing. I ignored it and just continued playing without sound. Then when I wanted to continue to the next mission, during the loading my PS3 just hanged. The progress bar was there but it was not moving at all. I waited for an hour and still…..NOTHING!~!!!
I forced shutdown my PS3 by holding the power button. After a reboot, nothing worked anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t play any of my games, Blu-ray movies, DVDs…. I am in a state of panic right now. What on earth is going on?!
My current firmware is 2.41.
RE:Zhenghao
This might be an issue of faulty play station. Return it if you have warranty. But before you do that try:
Turn the on/off switch in the back to off
Unplug the cord from the power
Wait for about 5 min
Plug it back in
Turn the on/off switch in the back to on
If the system works try
Restoring the factory settings
Then connect the internet and update the firmware
If any of this doesn’t work, send it back to Sony.

Hey my call of duty wont even load up on find party.. just says loading game settings but doesnt come up with any peoples games i can enter?? anyone have any ideas???
Yeah.. It’s Call of Duty 4. My PS3 has only crashed twice (don’t want it to crash again so for some safety, touch wood
) and it’s been on COD4. I was at first suspicious because of ventilating problems but nah, it was COD4. I better buy another game that will stop me from COD4
Mine crashes too. Sent to playstation. They will fix it for 149.00 but won’t tell you whats wrong. I have read about a lot of problems with the ps3 lately. I believe this is a common problem that they know about. That is why they won’t tell you what the fix is. I have contacted an attorney about a lawsuit. I am very disappointed with the way Sony handled my problem with my PS3. I f i had known I would have this much trouble I would have never bought a PS3. I may just sell my PS# when I get it back and buy a WII or some other system.
I have a 80gig PS3 and it just stopped playing PS3 games. Plays PS2 games just fine. Have read a ton of Post about the Lazer Diodes going out. Have only had this machine for around 6 months. Hope they fix this……..Looks like it’s a big issue, I’m sure they have already charged thousands of customers to fix thier machines on just this issue alone. I have bought a ton of Sony products over the years. Computers,T.Vs,Camera,Cam-corder,Ps2,PSP all Sony. If they don’t fix it for free I will never buy another Sony Product again.
