PS3 2.41 Firmware
We have all heard about the problems of the Sony PS3 2.40 firmware update and the fact that Sony even pulled this update and went back to just 2.36. Personally I managed to update to 2.40 before they pulled it but as I mostly play Call of Duty 4, I did not see any problems with this firmware release.

Yesterday I updated to firmware 2.41 from 2.40, then after playing Call of Duty 4 for around 10 minutes it crashed when trying to go back to lobby after a game.

This is the first time COD4 has crashed on me and I have clocked up over 150 hours of game time, I thought nothing of it and forced my Playstation 3 to restart by turning the power off.

After another 30 minutes of gameplay, four friends decided to play a private match and on entering that game, COD4 crashed again on me.

Each time the crashes happened the PS3 completely froze, the only way to get access again was to turn the system off and on again.

While I have no way of knowing why these crashes happened, its strange they have happened after updating to firmware 2.41. Has anyone else had any problems with Call of Duty 4 and firmware 2.41 if they updated from 2.40?

I don’t believe this has anything to do with the latest system update, as I’ve experienced a handful of these crashes myself over the last 6 months or so, when playing COD4. However, I did manage to update my PS3 with the 2.4 version & experienced a new problem. On a couple of occassions whilst in the middle of an online game, I would suddenly be taken out of COD4 & back to the PS3 load up screen. I would then have to reload the disc in order to rejoin the action. I haven’t played enough under 2.41 to see if this rectifies the issue.

Nope, no issues. Played for 5 hours straight last night not one problem.

Have you tried any other games? I had that issue a few months ago and then when i tried other games some of them didn’t load up at all. After about a week my PS3 wouldn’t read ANY discs and i got an error message with error 80010514. I looked it up on the internet and it turned out to be a “hardware error caused by a corrupted firmware update”. So if you have got that it will be related to something going wrong (like a break in internet connection) while downloading the firmware update, but not specifically with 2.41. I could be completely wrong of course :P

I have never had my sytem crash, but I noticed frequent connection interuptions yesterday after rolling the block point…

wtf? this is being picked up on google news like it is just that, news. this is little more than a forum post asking others if they have had the same issue, but of course the title is suppose to read like its a real problem.
why not just title this “cod4 crashes and i don’t know why”
that is not near as misleading

Nope, maybe it’s just you. Maybe you’re a Suxbox 360 fanboy making up this shit. Who’s to tell?

2.41 is working fine for me, and COD4 has been working even better.

  7. Alen says:

No issues for me, before or after the update…

Played COD4 all day Monday…with no issues played a little last night no issues. I have not had any issues with my PS3 since launch day and the only issue I have had with my 360 is a funky DVD tray that would not come out when you hit the eject button.

I too played COD4 yesterday and experienced multiple crashes. This has happened before the 2.41 update. I had the 2.40 and it worked fine. Each time the game would lock up I had to turn off the switch in the back just to get my ps3 to work again. I have a 20G ps3. Wonder if that has anything to do with it?

  10. give me a break says:

No one else has reported this problem. It could be a problem with your setup, overheating, or an anti Ps3 bias on your part.

Stop acting like this is the end of the world
