Lively vs IBM Metaverse and Second Life
There is a new player in the Virtual World game and this time it comes from Google in the shape of something Lively, how will this new service from Google compare to IBM’s Metaverse and Second Life?

Second Life may not be the best designed Virtual World but it was at the right place at the right time, it became very popular fast and also received a lot of bad press.

The business and enterprise use of Second Life has been clear all along, although we have seen vandalism in Second Life just like you would in the real world.

IBM’s virtual world engine was designed with something different in mind and is aimed for corporate use, it can provide what Second Life cannot and that’s real secure conversation for businesses.

Where will Google Lively stand in all this and does it have any use for enterprise? Larry Dignan on ZDNet blogs aims to find out in his article about the big three key players in the Virtual World.

Google has taken the Virtual World to another level as it does with many products and services it launches, they will let you furnish your virtual room and dress up your avatar in expression with a new dimension.

  1. There are some major differences between Lively and Second Life. The interesting part will come with the integration of other Google Services and Applications.

Google Lively is a great whack at a first generation 3D chat room. Clever since it minimizes the burden of user entry as it is browser-based. Disappointing since chat seems to be the main application, leaving behind the broader experience platform capabilities present in Second Life which are much more relevant to the enablement of an interactive 3D web, as are the capabilities of lesser known companies like Exit Reality which convert any website into a 3D room.
