Has Anyone Upgraded to iPhone 3G? O2 Upgrade Shop Offline

July 7, 2008 | Filed under Cell Phones

iphone 3g o2 shop offline
The moment the text came in at just after 8am today we tried to upgrade to iPhone 3G on O2’s upgrade shop, this was met with problems as reported earlier.

First we managed to submit our details and choose a plan, but then got redirected to the homepage and second time we tried the browser hit a connection error.

Now when you click the upgrade link for existing iPhone owners, you are met with a page as in the image above, this basically tells you the O2 upgrade shop is offline.

We would guess this has happened because of the demand for the new iPhone 3G, although we have had no official word from O2 about the upgrade shop being unavailable.

What we want to know is if anyone has managed to upgrade to iPhone 3G before the O2 website went offline, if so please let us know in the comments below. We will keep you updated as we find out what’s happening.

I’ve had reports from a friend that he successfully placed a “new user” order, but my attempts to upgrade have been unsuccessful.

Website is working again now, but every time I click “send” I get taken back to the start of the ordering process rather than a confirmation page.

16gb out of stock, guess when o2. Apprently o2 said they ordered an iPhone for everyone requesting an interest… hmmm guess someone forgot to tell them there was 2 versions and not just stockup on the 8gb, lol

In short: no - tried for about an hour and a half since 0800 then the site went down as described. It’s back up now but it still keeps chucking me out - the wierd thing is, sometimes it gives me a nice website where you click on the options you want, but most times it gives you a form to fill in which doesn’t seem to do anything and that one has “failover” in the url.

I phoned customer services and they said I just have to keep trying as it’s the only way to upgrade before Friday.

The really annoying thing is that if you’re just buying rather than upgrading it seems to work fine - although I obviously haven’t completed the final step! The problem seems to be isolated to upgrades.

Can’t get anything to work now - just keeps loading a plain blue screen!

“strange it now asking for you mobile number then it will text you a code” - that’s what I got the first few times at 0800 - now it can’t seem to make its mind up between the two! So you got a confirmation by filling the form in?

How does one know if it has been successful. I code my text code went through the process - “checked out” Didn’t get a confirmation page or any other notification… but now if i try to get a text code - it just defaults to the first page again, but without the box to enter my phone number!! Frustrating…

Hey DMac - customer services lady told me that unless you get an order number you haven’t been sucessful.

Just spoke to O2 trying to upgrade. They said not to buy it as a brand new phone cos I’d end up with two accounts and may be charged twice. They said the site is bugged, should be working in 2-3 hours.

Looks as thought the upgrade site is completely offline now have been trying since 8.50 when the text came through from 02. This web service sucks!!

also another point: looks like the 3g iphones are now out of stock on the website if you have a look here:

    http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone?cm_re=Navigation-_-left-_-iPhone

the banner at the top says come back on thursday…..

we may aswell just wait until friday and go and get one!

  15. Markmark on July 7th, 2008 2:32 pm

Just tried again. Think it went through. Got this message:

Thank you for your order. We are processing this and will contact you if there are any complications with the details you have provided.

    But no order number.

  16. Markmark on July 7th, 2008 2:35 pm

It’s now out of stock online.

This is c*** I had to be one of the first few hundred people to try and pre order - how the f*** can it sell out without me getting one? And what’s the point in O2 ordering handsets for each customer that registered if they then just open the site for anyone to pre order? I’d go with carphone warehouse but I’m upgrading and can’t be bothered canceling my current contract.

Oh yeah - by the way - carphone warehouse have just started taking pre orders - the difference is that their site is working.
