Do you think Sony PS3 is main reason for Blu-ray sales?

A new 2008 annual report by The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) has recently been released that shows the most trends in video gaming, TV and home video segments which reveals that video game publishers are indeed closing in on the huge revenue of stagnating home video sales.
When you look closely back at 2006 it looked like Blu-ray was the losing HD format, but this was all turned around thanks to the Sony PS3 in 2007 and now in 2008 things seem to be much stronger. Microsoft in fact sold around 316,000 and of course what many would say “Useless” HD DVD add-ons for its Xbox 360 gaming console, an average person would say spend around $310 on movie and game entertainment per year. This 2008 annual report of the EMA is quite confusing and long winded and definitely comprehensive to say the least, 32 pages long may be boring to some but to others quite interesting.
We as consumers spend so much money on home video and most of us prefer Blu-ray over any other format, personally Blu-ray is what I always buy because you get better sound quality and picture quality also. Of the $310 total an average person would be spending $116 goes to home videos, $56 goes to consumer Internet content, $52 spent on music, $37 to the box office, video games only $36 and $13 to mobile content. Blu-ray sales has increased to a staggering amount over the last year and we all remember not so long ago the format war was hot, the victor of course turned out to be Blu-ray, personally we say the high sales of Blu-ray has to be down to the Sony PS3.
What do you think; do you think that the PS3 has boosted Blu-ray sales?

Ps3 sales have definitely helped get bluray in alot of homes, it’s the same price as a stand alone bluray player plus video games and an awesome web browser.
Personally i find it hard to justify the £20+ required for a purchase of a Blu-Ray film, especially when i have Sky HD. Once the price comes down further then i shall be getting plenty more Blu-ray’s for sure…
“video game publishers are indeed closing in on the huge revenue of stagnating home video sales”
Revenue, not sales numbers.
Huge difference.
I dont think the ps3 was the main reason, the deals made with movie studios was the reason. If hd had the deals with studios and the way hd price were much lower, hd would have won. Hd had a finalized format, bray is just know starting to get down to a finalized format. In the end though High Def movies look amazing and i got to justify buying a ps3 to my wife. Win Win
Blu-ray is the one huge reason Im getting a ps3, my wife wants blu-ray, the kids and I want games and blu-ray, but mostly games! And lets face it, you have to buy blu-ray movies if you have the player, I mean you cant just buy the regular one; Right?
Come on! You can’t seriously try to open a debate on every article Product Reviews publishes on it’s website. This hardly is news and the article name should be titled “Can We Start A Flame War Over Futile Information & Claims? You Tell Us”.
What a joke. This web site is going down hill fast. Hire new writers.
How about the only reason I bought a PS3 was BECAUSE of bluray, not the other way around. As a matter of fact I know alot of people that bought a PS3 for that. Cheapest and upgradeable, hell they may get a game here or there too…forget the Home function too btw. 360 for games, PS3 for movies, a BR Drive comes out for the 360, PS3 to ebay….

You’re just a fanboy New-Yank-Clitarotis (yes, I know clitarotis is not a real word yet discribes you so perfectly). Fanboyism is a seriously matter that has adverse side-effects of ED, foul breath, and never getting laid. I fear for you Yankie Clitarotis, because you may already be suffering from those side effects. Please, go see a doctor, tell him that you have Fanboy Syndrom and that you haven’t be laid in years.
Best of luck to you
