Sony Playstation 3’s PSN gets video services summer 2008

This summer will see the Sony Playstation 3 get video services on the PSN, earlier today Sony held a meeting in Japan that was later published online as a PDF file press release. In this file it stated that Sony were going to “roll out video services across key Sony products” and this was going to start with the PLAYSTATION®Network in summer 2008.
When they say video services, we guess they are talking about movie and music video downloads. We are also led to believe that this is a U.S. launch date and Japan and Europe may have to wait longer, that may be hard to believe though.
Some people may laugh and say that the Xbox 360 had its movie download service launch in 2006, but then it could be a bit lost on Blu-ray and high definition discs. While some 360 owners will claim that they do not need HD discs, if Microsoft adds this feature in future Xbox’s then it kind of admits a mistake in that area.
Sony are in a very good position to offer movie downloads and may do a lot better than Microsoft, this is why they can offer Hancock exclusively to all internet connected BRAVIA LCD TVs in the U.S. before it is available on DVD. Just think what they will do with a PS3 movie download service.
This year may be a good time to own a Playstation 3 and in time we will see if Sony Pictures Entertainment will be generous to PS3 owners with the best films, maybe even before DVD. Would you download movies from the PSN?
