Sony Playstation 3 Network
We all know there has to be updates and when its not possible to keep everything online we have to have downtime, but when gamers in the UK come home from work or school today and want to play games on their Sony Playstation 3, its not going to happen. They will be given the message, use of the Playstation Network has been suspended and to new people that means an update.

In this case the PSN is getting a big update, well in time scare that is, thanks to being offline from 15:00 BST to 20:10 BST. You will have no access to the Playstation store on your Sony PS3, and more upsetting is the result of no online gaming over PSN.

What I cannot understand as a PS3 owner and also other people I know have mentioned the same, is why are they updating in the busy time of gaming when they could of done this update in the middle of the night or early hours when the UK is sleeping.

I am happy that the PSN is getting an update, and even happier if this includes some really cool extra features that could be heading to a PS3 2.40 firmware and maybe even stability for Home. Just trying to work out why the PSN in the UK could not be taken offline when the UK is sleeping.

Unless this is an update to the PSN around the whole world, now that is very unlikely. When we get to around 20:10 BST you should be able to sign in and use the Playstation Network as normal, we will update you on any changes we see (if any).

Do you think the time of this PSN downtime could have been planned better?

    Given the choice, planned PSN preventative maintanence, or 2 weeks of downtime over Xbox live Xbox Live, I will take the PSN option any day thank you…

    PSN has been uber reliable to date, for coming upto 2 years, no unscheduled downtime at all, from my memory 2x 12hr secheduled upgrade slots.

    That’s awesome track record IMHO, and this blog is pretty pathetic to try and attack that as a negative..

    This article is completely pointless. PSN was down for 5 hours, with plenty of warning. Get over it. Honestly, have you really got nothing to do in your life unless your Playstation 3 can get online?
Sony never delivers… Our Xbox Live service is always 24/7 and we provide the greatest satisfaction to our subscribers with great quality
- - This would be because you have to pay for your servers and downtime costs them money.
    I for one will be going outside and sampling the joys of sunshine etc for a while, it is not the greatest time to be offline but it is not the end of the world surely? I use and run a company on Second Life and that software is always going down peak times in the UK but you have to also realise this is best for the US crews to work on the software. It is never the end of the world its simply just an excuse to go live a little!
    Cheer up guys at least the writer of this article know people are reading it and its hitting a nerve lol!
    Have a good day guys and remember its only a game lol

    @microsoft

    They deliver when you pay and keep paying and when your system craps out on you and you have to send it off for about a month or two if your lucky . Also that the system does put a ring on your disc making the game wrothless the than deliver on great service There are no 3 red rings on a PS3 .
