call of duty world at war release date
Call of Duty World at War (CoD 5) has got many gamers talking with some saying they cannot wait and some saying why the hell is it based around WWII, well we have some more news about the game for those who want the game and who are a little interested.

Activision Inc and Treyarch has just announced that they will be taking all you Call of Duty players into deep South Pacific and European theaters this fall for Call of Duty: World at War, this new game which may be loved or indeed hated is a game that contains a gritty fight that will put players up against enemies that know no surrender and of course the enemies show no mercy at all. The new game utilizes Call of Duty 4 (CoD 4) Modern Warfare engine and now throws the rulebook right out of the window of war to transform World War 2 (WWII) combat through a new enemy, there will be stunning new tactics and new experiences of the climate battles that gripped a generation. As U.S Marines and Russian soldiers you the player will love new features like cooperative gameplay, cinematically intense experience and brand new weapons like flamethrowers.

“With Call of Duty: World at War, we’re re-defining what it means to play a WWII game,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch. “We’re excited to give players a host of new enemies that employ entirely new tactics, as well as new, groundbreaking tools - like co-op and the flamethrower - to succeed in the epic fight.”

Call of Duty: World at War features cool co-operative play “No One Fights Alone”, mantra with up to four-players online for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, or two-player local split-screen on consoles, this game will also be supported on the Nintendo Wii which will also feature co-op mode for two players, what we like is the fact for the first time ever in the Call of Duty gaming players will see new single-player missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution, the co-op campaign will allow you to rank up and like the CoD 4 get many perks in competitive multiplayer by completing challenges and earning experience points, of course this is where the fun factor and addictive gameplay comes from. Whether playing competitively or cooperatively - if players are online with Call of Duty: World at War - they will always gain experience points. Based on a player’s experience rank and rank of the player’s friends, Call of Duty: World at War will scale dynamically to provide a deeper level of challenge.

Call of Duty: World at War is still in development for the Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PC, the game will be released this fall of 2008, the game has not yet been rated by the ESRB, ok so we will see the game this fall but I was not happy with that so I done some digging. Apparently the game will be release December 31, 2008.For more information and exclusive updates about Call of Duty: World at War, visit www.callofduty.com

Are you looking forward to this game, or are you disappointed that it is based around WWII?

im a little disappointed as this a ww2 game it means that it will be very limited game play and weopanry. It also means the story line will be similar to a million other games and will nowhere near be as good as the fourth

  2. John on June 24th, 2008 3:10 pm

You obviously have not played the whole Cod series, or if you have then never appreciated it. CoD 2 was on of the most revolutionary FPS games to come out on console and PC, the engine was completely different from the first CoD and I would argue that its playability rivaled that of CoD 4. Yes, there are cool new weapons in CoD4, but this is WWII. They didn’t have red dot sights on their 8 shot Garands or the ability to call in an assault helicopter. You feel a sort of nostalgia about this game if you were a lover since the beginning, I admit I even felt dirty about playing a modern CoD game when I first bought Modern Warfare.

  3. G Thang87 on June 24th, 2008 3:21 pm

Was rather hoping the title would have been COD Future Warfare :-(, Ill give it a go all the same.

  4. Dan on June 24th, 2008 4:17 pm

i have played number one and two and didnt think they were as good as number four. i mean ww2 has had a million different games based around it so to me its pretty out dated as a games bases now…

  5. DAN M on June 24th, 2008 6:13 pm

i agree with dan i hoped it would be modern i just like the guns better

  6. Nubz on June 24th, 2008 9:41 pm

Im getting sick of WW two games their overrated the fifth COD you better be able to customize your guns

  7. Nubz on June 24th, 2008 9:42 pm

If you cant customize guns all I got to say is im taking that shit back

  8. JWalker on June 24th, 2008 10:50 pm

Future warfare???Go play Halo noob. WW2 put man vs man and no weak helis to ruin the gameplay

  9. Willhelm The Destroyer on June 24th, 2008 11:08 pm

first off… would u rather shoot a fully auto .30-06 BAR or a measly 5.56 M4? hah in WW 2 pretty much every weapon used was a sniper rifle…. not a spray and pray weapon. K98, Mosin Nagant, M1 Garand again another semi auto .30-06 were all pretty much sniper rifles, but if ur not a gun person then this game probably wont be for you, other than that, they could have a totally different story line for this Call of Duty, if u thought COD 4 was good, wait till you try this, know how awesome COD 4 is i know they will make this game better, otherwise what would be the point?

  10. Nick on June 25th, 2008 1:40 am

I agree with you too. The modern weapons are just more fun, and to many games are about WWII. I was really hoping we would get another modern or future game.
Is Infinity Ward not helping make the 5th one? I heard that from somewhere.

  11. camaro205 on June 25th, 2008 3:04 am

I AM AFAN OF ALL CALL OF DUTY GAMES ,AND IM EXITED TO SEE WHAT THIS LATEST EDITION BRINGS TO THE TABLE.

  12. jaque noff on June 25th, 2008 6:00 am

just shut up, keep an open mind and wait to play

  13. Dan on June 25th, 2008 8:55 am

again im in no doubt i will buy it, as it will hopefully have a decent enough story line to make it interesting. And as for futuristic games, having it set in the near future does not mean halo!!!! it just means that we will be able to use more items and sort of stealth tactics. no weopon in ww2 is really stealthily now is it !!!!

  14. TaNk on June 25th, 2008 1:52 pm

i dont think we have enough information about the game just yet to judge whether to buy or not. its easy to see that this game will be both loved and hated. but if your like me and on the fence we still need more facts about the game. too early to judge

  15. Alex on June 25th, 2008 4:27 pm

When are they going to do a Vietnam era version? Dying to do some river boat action and maybe some some tunnel fighting. Jungle warfare…. Hoora!

  16. Goose on June 25th, 2008 5:50 pm

I am so sick and tired of world war 2 games its not even funny. CoD4 was like a breath of fresh air. If they want to go back in time, why don’t they do something like veitnam. Theres not alot of those games out there.

  17. daddy douschebag on June 26th, 2008 3:34 am

THIS GAME IS GONNA FUXXIN ROCK MAN. SHUT UP EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. G Thang87 on June 26th, 2008 1:25 pm

I agree with ‘Goose’, If the COD brand was to explore all regions of gameplay, weapons, tactics, stealth, Allies and Foes etc they could do with exploring different wars that have taken place in the modern era. As its been mentioned in a few previous comments everyone is tired of WWII games, now I am new to COD and have always been in to MOH games which are mainly based around WWII history. And Ive had no major problems with that style gameplay or weaponry used, but playing COD4 was a big turnaround for me and I believe the best way for them to go would be staying modern as they have covered WWII in the last 3 games, so Ive heard? And also Infinity Ward are not involved in this game which apparently is not a good thing. After all the pointless rambling ive just wrote as I got nowt to do at work I say to hell with it and ‘Lets do dis!!’

  19. Zach on July 6th, 2008 9:04 pm

Oh my f**King god another WW2 peace of sh*t you gotta be F**King me! I was hoping it would be modern thats why COD4 sold so well why in the hell are they going back to WW2 nobody cares about WW2 with those crappy bolt-action rifles that took two years to reload. I’m not going to buy this game because I’m so sick and tired of WW2 games.! There is like a million other games set in WW2 why make another one?

  20. Zach on July 6th, 2008 9:06 pm

I was hoping GOD5 would be set in Iraq or Afghanistan or something. They need to get out of the past and stay in the present day and/or future.

  21. jon on July 12th, 2008 3:31 am

i dont mind another WWII game because its stuff that some of our relatives actually did. WWII games bring heart and meaning to the game. and by the way, WWII German infantry weapons are still regarded as very advanced today. they certaintly did not take 2 years to reload

  22. FAT4LxASSASS1N on July 28th, 2008 4:14 pm

OK EVERYBODY THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE GOOD ON THE STROY LINE. I AGREE WITH PEOPLE THAT SAY WHY ARE THEY GOING TO GO BACK TO WORLD WAR II. THEY SHOULD HAVE THE FUTURE OF WAR OR SOMETHING OR PRESENT DAY. BUT THIS GAME WILL DEFFENTLY BE GOOD ON STORY LINE. BUT IT IS GOING TO SUCK FOR X BOX LIVE. I HAVE 232,000 KILL FOR COD4 WICH THE GAME KICK’S AS* BUT THIS GAME WILL SUCK FOR LIVE

  23. nick on July 28th, 2008 7:12 pm

i hope you can machete ppl

  24. Haskeer on July 28th, 2008 7:15 pm

Im actually quite pissed off about this,i didn’t mind Cod1 and 2 because they we’re the best at the time..Cod4 sold really well.. got the best rating and made all the consoles..going back to WW2 seems a bit of a downer..i think as some others maybe a vietnam one? Jungle fighting,Helictopers that fire rockets and machine guns, planes that drop Napalm? i think they’re running out of ideas so “hey lets make another ww2 game” i admit that its the first WW2 game i’ve heard about that involves the pacific..i mean yeah battlefield and MOH but not alot of games are the pacific theatre.. maybe this game could be good, maybe bad

  25. hazar on August 4th, 2008 1:57 pm

this game is gonna rock, i personaly dont like modern war games (they suck torusballs)

  26. Amit Kumar on August 5th, 2008 5:13 am

i m big fan of this game and i m end all of call of duty versions. i m wait for call of duty 5.

  27. Kohl on August 6th, 2008 1:31 am

Call Of Duty started as a world war two game and i think they should stick with that genre not that cod4 wasnt good cuz it was amazing. but also they could go in a completely different direction like say…ww1 or vietnam, even korea. besides future warfare would be gay. i agree with the few ppl that said just go play halo bitches haha.

  28. Jesse on August 6th, 2008 11:18 pm

Future warfare???Go play Halo noob. WW2 put man vs man and no weak helis to ruin the gameplay

That comment just made my day.

  29. laserlke on August 7th, 2008 8:16 am

John is absolutely right… The complete difference between CoD 4 and the others turned me off to even play the game. I’m glad they went back to WW2, that is obviously what they do best… As a PC gamer for years, i have been playing the series since the first week it came out, and am looking forward to this release on the PC
Jesse has a point too– those gay ass new weapons, helicopter attacks, whatever that was in cod4 ruins the game every once in a while.
I would like to see activision do something else next time though where the shooting genre is weak: vietnam, korea, hell i’d settle for even WWI or a fictional cold war vs russia! the ww2 story does get repetitive, but the way the trailer looks they are sticking the the pacific theater, which is rarely ever done in a WWII game.

  30. Goobalooba on August 10th, 2008 5:59 pm

I played call of duty 2 on the pc and hated it. When cod 4 came out i wasnt going to buy it but a friend convinced me too, and it is the best game i now own. I like everything about the game..Why the hell would any game franchise take a step backwards, it makes no sense

  31. mac on August 14th, 2008 12:31 pm

I think its great they chose this era but feel it should have been brought out before modern warfare, cod 4 is great but helis and airstrikes jeez , half the time you cant get your heli off so you cant get another airstrike MAJOR FLAW.

This is an unexplored area of ww2 games which im sure will rock, and all you guys saying it sucks balls blah blah, i bet youre ass you buy it.

I hope they give it the same feel online to with the challenges and xp because that made you keep coming back for more.

  32. Mike on August 15th, 2008 9:09 pm

Just watched the trailer and it looks awsome. Can’t wait to flame thrower the fuck out of everything. I agree that it seems like a backward step to make another WW2 game but as long as it provides new challenges and improvements to the game play who cares. I’m sure it will be another hit.

  33. DRATS on August 18th, 2008 12:54 am

I THINK THIS GAME WILL ROCK , BUT I ALSO THINK THEY SHOULD OF MADE THE LAST ONE WWII IT IS GOING BACKWARDS BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY COD IS ONE OF THE BEST WARFARE GAMES OUT THERE AND EVERY YEAR IM AMAZED AT THE IMPROVEMENTS …. IT SHOULD BE VERY INTRESTING TO SEE HOW THEY SPICE UP AN OLD STYLE GAME AND PLAYING COD4 LIVE IS EXCELLENT I GOT 1000 POINTS AND IM READY FOR THE NEXT ONE …..

  34. Shooter on August 20th, 2008 1:52 am

    I’m sorry you guy’s but….. don’t judge before you played the game….!!
    maybe it’s a great game….
    maybe it sucks…
So to all of you.. have fun gaming.

    GO WITH THE FLOW!!!

  35. massey on August 23rd, 2008 10:27 am

at the end of the day if you dont like it, its not like cod 4 is gonna vanish, just go back and play that!

  36. ash on August 23rd, 2008 2:51 pm

  37. happy on August 28th, 2008 9:46 pm

  38. chris on August 30th, 2008 4:03 am

I have read sumwhere that there is going to be 2 new call of dutys the cod world at war which is out at the end of 08 plus another 1 coming out early next year which will be a modern 1 is this true as i have not seen it talked about anywhere and there is no hype about both games to be coming out just about cod waw.

  39. Aviator on August 30th, 2008 9:15 am

    Yes i am Aviator,

Notorious Leader of the Phantom Clan in cod2, i was wondering if there is any germans in cod5 mutliplayer?

  40. call of duty 4 lyfe on August 30th, 2008 8:58 pm

though i would prefer and different time gera, it’s not like call of duty 5 is only goin to take place in Germany, Russia, etc. It’ll also take place in the PACIFIC!!! not many game shave done that so i think it’ll be new, even though it’s old…understand lol?
all i no is that if any of u ppl who say “i’m a huge fan” don’t buy it…ure not a fan.

HAVE FUN!! BUY IT!! if it siks…return it stupid!

  41. tadhg on August 31st, 2008 12:16 pm

I dont mind that its set in WW2. I just hope that the multiplayer has modern weapons like g36c or p90.

  42. Trigger Happy on August 31st, 2008 11:49 pm

Yo cmon guys… yea sure cod 4 had deagles, m4, mp5 but the thompson and m1 Grand are awsome and how could u forget WWII thats what started call of duty trust me world at war is gonna be sweeeeeeeeeeeet!

  44. ash on September 1st, 2008 6:05 pm

i think COD5 is gona be so cool!!

  45. S Pullen on September 1st, 2008 7:27 pm

WW2 will result in less airstrike type attacks and more intimate combat which is really what makes these games what they are……the real question is are you a martyr and a final stand?
Plus although maybe not all fully automatic or futuristic there will be a wide selection weapons..flamethrower!!
you have my vote team COD.

  46. connor davidson on September 2nd, 2008 7:14 pm

i heard it was confirmed middle of nov in a mag i thought it would b crap asswell goin back to wrld war 2 but type in callofduty.com n there is an online co op video looks mint

  47. AVIATOR on September 3rd, 2008 12:42 am

YO I WANT TO KNOW IF WE CAN PLAY GERMAN IN COD5 MULTIPLAYER.

  48. ash on September 3rd, 2008 5:52 pm

well in ww2 did they go to germany if yes then maby if no not shure

  49. DEADLY GUY on September 3rd, 2008 7:53 pm

i no that cod3 was crap but that was because it was only givn 8 months 2 make it so now that they hav been given 2 years for it meaning its gona be awsome. u may be anoyed that its going back to ww2 but u can do more thing that u couldnt do in other games like use flamefrowers and damage the envireronment around u

  50. Rasp on September 3rd, 2008 9:56 pm

Well I gotta say I’m looking forward to it…CoD united offensive was one of my favorite games….I really like modern warfare games but at times i get really sick of the noob tube. frag whoring, and air strikes. I like a challenge in a game and using a weapon that doesn’t have red dot sights or Acogs, just plain old iron sights, is a challenge…Agree or disagree people will buy it and i’m sure it will be just as great as the others.

  51. paul on September 4th, 2008 3:12 am

will there be any germans in cod5?

  52. henners on September 4th, 2008 11:45 am

i think that yur all sad, just play the fukkin game first before you go off on one…….

  53. Alex on September 4th, 2008 3:41 pm

I’m pretty sure there will be German in this, if I remember correctly.

  54. jamie on September 5th, 2008 9:13 pm

just frikin deal with it. seriosly if u dont like the game simply dont buy it . and stop talkin crap about a game thats not even out yet.

  55. Connor Fitzmorris on September 8th, 2008 2:12 am

    lets kick some nazi butt!!!!!!!!!!!1

  56. Alex on September 8th, 2008 2:26 pm

Jamie, everyone here is doing exactly what this forum is about, giving our thoughts and opinions on what we think about the new edition of Cod5 coming out. People are passionate about this kinda stuff, if you don’t like the opinions then don’t read them; everyone is just speaking their mind. As much as I would have preferred a Vietnam edition and am a little disappointed that this will be going back to WWII I’m sure I will still very much enjoy the game, as I’m sure most everyone else will that has bitched or complained about it.
