Apple’s 3G iPhone firmware has been dissected

You got to love it when you hear a so-called rumor that comes from a “reliable source” and when you look for any name of the source, it cannot be found. This is just what is being said on Engadget.com today, they have said, “a private version of the 3G iPhone’s firmware has been dissected”. This is meant to show that the new Apple iPhone will not only support GPS but will also be compatible with international carriers thanks to Tri-band HSDPA (3G) support.

After the iPhone 2.0 firmware had apparently been dissected it was said to show these hardware features; Hooks for Global Locate Library (GLL), software that handles GPS related commands for the host processor, UMTS Power Saving – on or off, Internal build model number: n82ap (1st gen iPhone was model m68ap), Skyworks 77413 – UMTS / HSDPA 850MHz, Skyworks 77414 – UMTS / HSDPA 1900, Skyworks 77427 – UMTS / HSDPA tx 1900, rx 2100MHz, ARM 1176JZF-S – Main CPU (same as in 1st gen iPhone), Sony SP9T – antenna Switch for GSM / UMTS dual mode, Murata LMRX3JCA-479 tri-band amplifier (we’re assuming for the 3G) and Infineon PMB6952 / S-GOLD3 six-band UMTS / HSDPA transceiver.

If this so called “reliable source” is right then it shows much of what we have already guessed from other information, support for 3G and GPS. This may all be confirmed on this Monday at the WWDC keynote speech.
