One blog on Zedomax has noticed something interesting and that is Linux starting to take over the world with Mini-notebooks and netbooks. Many computer users have said that Linux will beat Microsoft Windows at some point, but when that point will be is very hard to guess even it did happen.
Will Linux take over Microsoft Windows Soon? The answer to this question will depend on how we class soon, if soon means within 5 years then it could be a yes, any sooner than that would be some accomplishment. The Blog (which you can read here) went on to explain their views of Linux taking over people’s computers.
With so many uses today going towards open-source software, it will make it harder and harder for people to sell paid software when there is similar open-source software. You only have to look at Norton Anti Virus and AVG, many of my work colleagues and friends are moving to AVG.
Are Microsoft is afraid of Linux? If they are afraid of Linux, it could be because once people start catching on to Linux and start using it more often, there will be no more need for Windows. Then Microsoft might have to go open-source if they want to compete with Linux.
What’s your view on open-source software, Linux and Vista or XP?

Linux is certainly ready for the desktop environment. I made the switch after I read the many negative reviews about Vista because I felt like Microsoft had lost their focus on what the customers really want and need. I am running Vector Linux now, which is faster than XP, is stable, and it’s more secure. I can’t even imagine having to run an anti-virus and several anti-spyware softwares, not to mention bloated firewalls anymore.
I love Linux! I have been using it daily for over a year now (Ubuntu/Mint). I now hawe 4 out 5 PC’s with Linux at home.
Even my father has been using linux on his laptop for a year now with no problems! Go Ubuntu!!!
I’ve even bought an eee 701 for my mother. My parents are both 60+ and enjoy the power, stability and the ease of linux.
So I really cant see any reason why Linux won’t outrun Windows the next 5 to 10 years. I just hope all game developers soon will supporting the platform, and the file system creators will make a new FS that support really large disk arrays!
Please ignore my spelling errors
I agree with Knut (above). For the average pc user, linux has become quite a reliable alternative to windows. Xp is still used by most users globally because of the inefficiency of powerusage and number bugs faced in vista, not to mention lack of new, innovative features.
I’ve been using ubuntu on an old laptop for general usage and I can’t really complain when this OS shows so much reliability and stability. The average user might find it abit annoying when looking for certain windows like apps because certain unavailability, still the latest versions of ubuntu offer most of what people need.
Goodbye spyware, viruses and other random bugs that you’d face when using windows.
Microsoft will have to double their efforts if they expect to have people pay for their products in the future.
yes, i agree,I am only 13 and i have almost my whole school running ubuntu!
i think that once a few bugs are fixed and linux is more known it will take over the desktop market
