Sony PS3 Firmware v2.4 Update: what do you want from it?

When the Sony PS3 first hit the market many of us were so exited, but when we took the new games console home and set it up there was a horrible taste left in our mouths. The problem that the Sony PlayStation faced was it did not offer gamers the chance to speak to other gamers online; keeping a community talking is one of the most important things for gamers.
When it comes to keeping gamers happy and talking, it seems that the Sony PS3 can not touch the Xbox 360. This was the ultimate console when it comes to their voice chat options, many PS3 owners are hoping that the new Sony PS3 Firmware v2.4 Update will come with the rumoured improved communication features. The guys over at PS3 Daily have said that the new firmware update will be released on June 18; this seems like so long to wait for the much approved communication features.
Also being rumoured in the Sony PS3 Firmware v2.4 Update, is a Trophy System for achievement points, there are also rumours of many more goodies from the update, as always we have to wait until the day to find out what they will be. It seems that there are so many conflicting reports about when the new firmware will be ready for download, some are saying the June 10, but most sources are looking more towards June 18.
So what else do you want from the new Sony PS3 Firmware v2.4 Update?

The thing I am most hoping for is some way of controlling the aspect ratio for HD resolutions. My PS3 is currently connected to a 17″ PC monitor which unfortunately can’t be told not to stretch the image to fit the screen. The Xbox 360 allows specific output resolutions to be chosen - why can’t the PS3 do this?
the ability to play ps2 games and stay online to chat would be really handy
Because the xbox has a built in scaler chip, as far as im aware the actual raw output of the image doesnt change, it just gets stretched and distorted into shape
Where is Skype???
It is out on the PSP but not on the PS3!!
I have the Playstation Eye, which was a total waste of money without Skype!!!

Since when exactly? I have never once felt the need to talk to someone when playing a game on my 360, and if people do feel this need, then I suggest they play better games they don’t feel the need to distract themselves from however they can, rather than actually focusing on playing said games… assuming they can find any of course.

roll back to the previous firmware, all the new one dig was create more bugs not fix any exsisting bugs i was experiencing.

RSS, podcast (audio and video) downloading plus a YouTube client would be sweet.
you can set a custom hd resolution on your ps3 for games by going into display settings, and instead of selecting all the supported resolutions, pick just the one you want, leave all the rest unchecked…and bingo…
all ur games will play in that resolution
More HD format option.
Like this partition: 50% for PS3 and 50% for other OS.
At the present time there is only 10G for PS3 or 10G for other OS.
Too few option for a 80G or 120G HD
Can they release an update to make the control pad somewhat comfortable to use?!
How about Activision enables got damn fucken rumble for COD4!!!! Jesus! This is the lamest company of all time! And every other PS3 game that has been released without rumble needs to be patched with rumble in this next firmware update!!!
….Otherwise they deserve to have their company shut down and never allowed to make video games EVER AGAIN!!!!! Stupid Activision!!!!!!!!
In response to whoever said online community’s dont need to talk i have a xbox 360 and i play call of duty 4 a lot online, having voice chat is good because you can communicate with your team, also i if i wanna talk to my mates i can just send hima chat invite and talk to him when he is playing one game and im playing another
down side is the little kids and general idiots that talk crap on there, but you can just mute them
The only thing thats really bugging me at the moment is the internet browser on the PS3.
It likes freezing on me for some reason and i have to re-set the console as it stops responding, having a browser that was more stable and not having to wait for firmware updates for the likes of flash player whens a new one is released etc would, i think be of greatest benefit to me.

Yeah many more features need to be added such as the time when you press the PS button (something so simple lol), Firefox web browser, In game XMB (MUST and NO buts SONY), Trophies (aha sought of need it to be happy), Fix the Playstation Store because downloading images is slower then the older Playstation store, Six axis is very very very very very dodgy and is a big no no, particularly Lair!

Perhaps some more infor when applying patches and upgrades or downloading of demo’s it only has a progress bar along the bottom, would be nice to see the speed of the download plus an eta…?

I, too, would much like for my PS3 experience to be more like that which I get from my 360. So obviously my biggest wants are for the next firmware update to increase the noise output of the PS3 console itself tenfold and make it significantly more likely to stop working for no reason at all when I try to switch it on.
Yes a thermometer to check the temperature when it sounds like its overheating. White-noise cancelling to quieten the fan noise. An Altimeter for when I hastily throw it out the window if it ever catches fire. Thrusters like on Mars Phoenix for when it lands.
I want an ‘auto-dust’ option for the machine.
Full support for infinite sub folders, simple enough and there’s really no excuses to neglect sorting it out if Sony expect the PS3 to be taken seriously as a hub for media.
Oh and the ability to play my music when I play my game…wow groundbreaking stuff hey…crazy that such an obvious feature needs requesting this far down the line.
