After playing games like Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, the next game in their class has to equal them and be much more. On the upcoming games, we want features that are both different and unique, the good news is 2008 may be bringing just that. Last year it was COD4 vs Halo 3, but in 2008 we will see the Sony PS3’s Resistance 2 up against Gears of War 2 on the Xbox 360.
You can see a new video below explaining the features in Resistance 2 and some gameplay, this game will not only feature 60 players on one map, but it will also have battles within battles. They are taking the gameplay we love so much and adding some unique features, and that’s just why this game has not been released yet. Insomniac will make sure everything is right before they release Resistance 2 and looking at the video below, you can see it looking good.
While Gears of War 2 will look stunning, it does not seem to have added much from the last version, well not compared to Resistance 2 anyway and if these two are the big games of 2008, you need to give a lot more. The first Resistance game was not good enough in my opinion, I played it for a few hours but found it lacked what other games had. This sequel makes up for that in many ways and it looks like a lot more has gone into it. Gears of War 2 will have the better graphics by a long way, but if your talking gameplay, my money is on Resistance 2, but that’s if they can pull it off with the 60 player online play.
The biggest problem with some of the PSN games currently is hosting a game, on Call of Duty 4 you get many games starting and then saying “Host Ended Game”. This is very annoying and what should have happened, is the host role should have been passed to another player. If that situation happens again with Resistance 2 and 60 player online gaming, it will be a big fault.
Two other big upcoming games include killzone 2 and mgs4, but these are Playstation 3 exclusives. Watch the video below and let us know what you think of Resistance 2.

I’ve played both and prefer Gears any day of the week. As far as sales go it will not be a competition at all. Probably a bigger margin then last time. Something like 5 mill to 2.5. Anyhow, kind of hard to say anything about Gears 2 features yet because they have yet to release any info. They have MS’s conference this week and an EGM cover story on mulitplayer in their next issue.

Resistance was longer and had better gameplay then gow, online mode was top notch, i own both systems, R2 & K2 will kick ass, Haze, mgs4, little big planet, tekken 6, are around the corner too, not much happening wid 360 very few new games. gow2 doesnt offer anything new, looks like a continuation of the previous title, R2 has promised alot & will hopefully deliver, bungie! make Halo 4, and showem all!

Wow you played a game thats not due out until November, that amazing lol. Gears of war i prefere but i have both, and are both very worth while games. I only really liked gears for the online play and it looked better on my TV. Resistance had better sound, and a longer more detailed story, “by a long shot” it took me just 5 hours to complete Gears of war on the 360 in the normal difficult and only 3 hours more in the insane difficulty lol. not very long.

Uh no, played both the originals. Pretty easy to pick up there with the sales reference to both lol. Anyhow, I’ve owned both of the originals and still love GOW2 that much more. I will only buy one come this November and I have both systems, it will be Gears 2.

Have both PS3 and 360, but 360 just crapped out for the second time. Much like two of my friends systems have. PS3 free online play, blu-ray player, wireless network, and Resistance made it more appealing to me. And I have yet to have a problem, unlike Micro$oft’s 360. Getting rid of all the 360 games, and going full blown PS3.

To Lee:
To be fair, Gears sold 5.16 million, while Resistance has sold 2.77 million. I would like to believe that both will sell better, especially Resistance 2 due to the fact that there will be many more potential buyers than there were for the first. Resistance was a launch title, and we all know Sony had a horrible launch, but even with a shitty install base Resistance sold well. I’ll say Gears will sell about 6-6.5 million, and Resistance will hit about 4-4.5 million.

One other little thing RFoM2 will have dedicated servers just like RFoM, so there will not be the connection problems that plague P2P set ups…
Justr my $0.02

I think both games will be amazing and multi-console owners really win out being able to enjoy both experiences.
One note though, Resistance 1 had 40 player Multiplayer matches and did not have a single second of lag. Sony first party MP games use Dedicated Servers which reduce lag to nothing. I’m sure R2 will employ the same Dedicated servers. Gears MP really suffered from lag and I hope Epic takes a page out of Insomniacs playbook and uses dedicated servers as well.
Can’t wait for November!

It is too early to judge both games, online for both games and its features except the 60p cap for resistance is unknown. Singleplayer footage has only been released for Gears2, june 13 on spike tv is resistance2 debut with a whole show dedicated to it. There is no doubt that both games will be awesome. Also in the article you write about the CoD4 problems with host ending match, it happens because of the way online is handled in the game (p2p), it could only happen in R2 (dedicated servers) is if sony servers fail which is unlikely.

the first resistance had nothing on gears of war 1….resistance 2 is going to be a big mess up and full of bugs becuz PSN is all screwed up…gears of war 2 graphics are amazing, gameplay seems a little better and the online mode is gonna be a killer……

Love the people making claims about what Gears 2 won’t be and anyone who says Gears 1.5 is so full of crap that it’s laughable.
No details beyond a small gameplay video has been released. Not one shred of multiplayer information has been given so unless you are a Sony fanboy(I’m so sorry) you can’t even begin to compare these games. You can look at the history however and see how mediocre Resistance 1 was and how stellar Gears 1 was. With Gears winning a couple GOTY awards, huge sales and raising the graphics bar on consoles. Gears is still in the top 5 most played games even 2 years after release. Resistance was simply a blip on the radar unless you were a Sony fanboy desperately trying to match up against the 360 at the time.
Also Gears is a third person shooter while resistance is a first person so makes things harder to compare.
Gears franchise > Resistance franchise

I wasn’t impressed much by either game but at least Resistance lasted more than 5 hours. Hopefully Resistance 2 does something new (other than higher player limits online) to mix things up a bit. BTW, Resistance featured server support unlike CoD4 so there should be no host issues with Resistance 2.

I found that GOW was better than RFOM originally mostly because the online despite it’s glitches, was much less bland and hectic. GOW had nice gore something I find many shooters( and games in general)lacking. I will give it up to RFOM on the story arc as it could be taken much more seriously that what they call dialog in gears. I personally will buy both ,but I expect to like gears more because it feels more on a personal level to me than most other shooters. Yeah, I suppose I am alittle biased but both systems will have a fantastic game either way so enjoy!

Going from X360 to PS3 is not that hard. It’s when you go from playing PS3 back to X360 that you really see the difference.
I can’t play my 360 anymore. The jump graphically is mind blowing.
19 Lee // May 12, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Wow I have multiple PS3s in my house and just 1 360 and I will say this, the 360 is hands down the winner in the GFX department to date. Just look at multi console releases to see the 360 pretty much wins the day, everyday. I will probably never buy a mutli platform release for my PS3s ever this gen. They are similar, but the 360 GPU is just a beast. As for exclusives they both have some wins in different areas this gen.
20 ehutch // May 13, 2008 at 2:29 am
early third party titles gave a graphical edge to 360 but the trend is now for ps3 having the edge. expect that to continue. resistance 2 looks pretty sweet in that clip. 5 hrs is way too short no matter how good a game looks. maybe gears will edge out RFOM in graphics but i doubt the same will hold true with mgs or killzone 2. the game to beat graphics wise right now is uncharted drakes fortune. that is a beautiful game to look at and play. the next few months should be interesting.
21 Lee // May 13, 2008 at 2:35 am
No way, the trend continues to this day. When I can run GTA IV at a full 720p and ~5 fps faster I’ll take that over any port any day of the week. I love Uncharted and it is a masterpiece, and cannot wait for Uncharted 2, but Gears 2 is most certainly going to set the bar again like 1 just like the GI guys have stated.
22 OMEN // May 13, 2008 at 8:39 am
if R-2 has vehicles than it will beat GOW2.
gow2 has 16 playes ha ha ha ha haaa
23 mark // May 13, 2008 at 8:54 am
actually lee, take a look at ut3 for the ps3, if your talking about currently, the ps3 is at the top with ut3,cod4,uncharted and soon to be haze.
Then it will seesaw back and forth between the 2 consoles, a better question(loaded i know) which console has the better looking first party games.
24 CoD4 // May 14, 2008 at 4:39 am
Reason why CoD4 had “Host has ended game” was because it had no dedicated server. It wasn’t just for the PS3, but also or the Xbox 360. Resistanc 2 will have a dedicated server, and it will have very smooth online play, and much better than GoW2 IMO.
25 tom // May 14, 2008 at 5:11 pm
The problem with COD4 it used P2P servers so it all depended on host’s connections. if RFOM2 is like RFOM it will use Dedicated so if one person lags all the rest shouldnt seeming the factor of only your connection matters

man you all suck Viva Piniata 3 man thats the way to go!
…ok seriously though Resistance was ight but I like Xbox live more…GOW I dont like that much maybe they will fix it this time around…
27 mike360 // Jun 2, 2008 at 11:43 pm
well hate to be last on this but hands down gow2 will pown r2 in graphics and of course multiplayer. You guys argue cuz r2 has 20+ people online, and gears has 8, but if u play gears thats is not a problem at all at least u can talk to your team while 20+ people it will be hard to hear wth people are saying, plus the graphics suck lol sorry thats just the truth, but does have a better story, but hey who the hell cares which have the best story mode thats sure as hell ain’t the reason i bought the game. I only buy games for the multiplayer and im sure thats y u guys buy them………gow2 vs r2=gow2
