Current Apple iPhone Owners: dumping for 3G versions

As a currently Apple iPhone owner it did make me a bit jealous that the hard drive was increased from the 8GB that I have, but then we all know the 3G iPhone is out this year and its said to be sooner rather than later. Now this new version will have many extras, but as a current owner should the first generation iPhone be dumped for the new 3G and improved version?

You will be lucky to find 8GB iPhones in local stores, as they are all clearing stock ready for the 3G phone, also we have heard that specs have been leaked from a “trusted source” of Engadget’s. This leaked information has the 3G iPhone sporting GPS and that is a massive improvement on the first iPhone, as you can see in the photo below it looks like the 3G phone will also have a glossy black finish and chrome volume buttons (although that photo is said to be the current iphone with a black case on it), more rounded edges and a flush headphone jack.

While we are talking rumors, let us add that pocket lint are reporting today that the next-gen iPhone may also feature haptic touch technology. It’s a shame we do not have any information on the storage, camera, battery life or weight. It’s safe to say that the camera will be increased as the current 2 megapixels is a bit weak, it would be nice to see that increased to 5 megapixels. Personally I would imagine that I would be upgrading to the new 3G iPhone, as GPS would be a nice feature, also the better camera and more than 8GB storage.

Would you dump your current iPhone for the 3G version if it has the above features?

We are a Mac family, but although we have watched the first generation iPhone and played with it in stores…we all decided to wait for the second generation 3G iPhone, as many of our Mac-using friends have also waited.

Many Mac Users are aware of Apple’s pace of constant improvements in models, and knew to wait for the second generation. We won’t stand in line, but will probably just order three over the web when they are available.

Yes, I want more memory. Love the initial release so much I would not hesitate to upgrade.

Of course I won’t “dump” my current iPhone. Rather, I will give it to my wife and get the new one.

That px of the black iphone is not the new iphone. It is the current iphone with a black case on it, this was discovered last week.

Yes, I will probably get a new 3G iPhone because of the features (unless the price is too prohibitive to buy early…once bitten, twice shy!). But I have no plans on selling my current iPhone. As an original, 1st-day version, I feel this piece of hardware will be a nice collector’s item in about 5-10 years…definitely worth more that what I’ll get on eBay in June!!

Absolutely. Am waiting with baited breath for it to get on the shelves!

No, but why cant they give us dedicated customers of the current iphone, somesort of incentive to keep our current versions as i am sure it will not take much software to increase its fuctionality to 3G, i was asured it was upgradeable upon purchase only two months ago….!! I wish someone told me how slow it was at the first instance instead of money grabbing.

We to decided to hold off on buying the iPhone until the 3G version arrived. At that time we will immediately order 2. :)

Yes, already dumped mine so I will be ready to purchase on day 1:):) Can’t wait!
