Dell plans to launch low cost 8.9-inch laptops (UMPC) for under $499

We reported to you last month on how companies plan to fight US recession and this included information on Dell buying $70 billion of computer parts from China. Today we are hearing news of how Dell plans to launch 8.9-inch laptops for under $499 thanks to low cost parts, there is no doubt that dell buying these cheap parts from China over the next 2 years and the plans to launch cheap laptops is all part of their recession fighting plan.

Taiwan’s Compal will assemble the laptops and the new ultra-portable is rumored to be available from June 2008.
