Tom Cruise to be godfather to Jennifer Lopez’s twins
It has been announced that Jennifer Lopez wants Tom Cruise to be godfather to her twins Max and Emme despite their differences in religious beliefs.

A source said that “Tom is delighted. Marc wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to have a Scientologist as the kids’ godfather, especially as he and Jennifer are both Catholic. But in the end Jennifer managed to convince him to agree.”

As we know Tom is an active follower of bizarre sci-fi cult Scientology and he has already showered the twins with gifts by spending $200,000 on designer christening outfits for the twins and has also ordered a giant fish tank for their nursery.

Do you think that Tom will make a great Godfather?

    Merriam-Webster defines “godfather” as:

“1: a man who sponsors a person at baptism”

    and baptism as:

“1 a: a Christian sacrament marked by ritual use of water and admitting the recipient to the Christian community”

The traditional use of “godfather” within my faith is someone who helps to guide a child as a Christian, and takes on the responsibility of sharing Christ with the godchild, particularly if anything untoward should happen to the parents.

Tom Cruise is not an appropriate choice to teach any child about God, since he recognizes no god other than himself. He does seem to be fulfilling the “sponsor” part of his duties well. Perhaps Jen & Marc should put a little Scientology patch on the twins’ Cruise-funded items, like a racing team. “Team Cruise”. We can all see it happening, unfortunately.

The “church” of Scientology may have some ritual in which they’ve essentially plagiarized this Christian rite as they have the cross, but it is certainly not a baptism. They can use water, but that doesn’t make it holy.

My verdict: bad choice. A grotesque mockery of the real meaning of “godfather,” and a transparent attempt to rehabilitate the public perception of Tom Cruise. Didn’t work.

That is a rather archaic definition. The more common meaning of the word is: someone who a parent elects to care for a child if the parents die. Tom Cruise would be a perfect choice for this role as he has proven himself honorable in every way. Also he is one of the few who is not an addict.

@GrnApl - Seriously? Oh yeah…if you think he’s honorable in every way, and not an addict (what ever that might mean… clear?)

Considering her father is a longtime Scientologist, this is not really a shock. As Catholics, do they REALLY think Tom Cruise would help raise their children in the faith of the Catholic church should something happen to them? (That IS what God-Parents are supposed to be for). My guess is that he would shoehorn them into his fringe ‘religion’ since L Ron Hubbard stated that there was no Christ and Christianity was just an implant.

Then again, who really expects sanity from celebrity.

Check out http://www.exscientologykids.com to see what the Church of Tom Cruise does to families.

So perhaps they could name Tom the twins’ “L Ron Parents” instead.

    SAD SAD
Two little babies, newborns, getting routed into L-Ron Hubbard’s evil CULT of $cientology.

    I’m getting sick about this.

GrnApl, I disagree with you completely. You say he’s not an addict, I think the man has an unhealthy addiction to power, control, and attention. He’s been losing power and control for a while not and the attention he is (and will be) getting is not in his favor at all. He is showing signs of mental instabiliy and I think he is a potential danger to Suri, Katie and others.
You can waste your breath defending that loon all you want, but your “religion’s” celebrity demigod will not be bouncing back from this nasty mess your “church” has gotten him into unless he makes the courageous decision to leave.

The “Church” of $cientology has been looking for a foothold in the Hispanic community for a long time and I find this to be their latest shameful “love-bombing” ploy. This will destroy Marc and Jen’s career if they don’t keep a healthy distance.

I would like to remind Jennifer that this is an affront to her religion. We here at the catholic church would not condone a non catholic to be the godfather of her two children.

Beyond that simple fact, he is the face of a most dangerous cult. Those of us here in Clearwater are well aware of their mistreatment and human right abuses of their members.

Miss Lopez should seriously reconsider who she wants being the spiritual shepherd for her children.

The story at least has one thing going for it, exposing Tom Cruise’s scientology affilitation and the note that it is indeed a danegrous cult.

Well, according to this interview of L. Ron Hubbard’s own son, L. Ron Hubbard was a self proclaimed Satanist, the BEAST himself, 666, and Satanism is the root of Scientology.

At the time, only Penthouse was ballsy enough to publish an article against the Church of Scientology because of its infamy for litigation to suppress criticism and its Fair Game policy.

A completely talentless starfucker and an insane cult member. What could possibly go wrong?

  11. Martin Luther on April 8th, 2008 1:21 pm

I can’t see this as anything other than a publicity stunt. As was said above, this is NOT the traditional use of a godfather and, in my opinion, is an insult to the very word. I hope nothing bad happens to the children because of this but there is every possibility that they will be indoctrinated into the cult.

I hope the growing anti-scientology movement can stop this cult before it grows any bigger.
