Pregnant Man Thomas Beatie reveals ultrasound to Oprah Winfrey
When Thomas Beatie came out and told the world that he was pregnant everyone thought it was a hoax but this is not the case in fact it is true.
Tonight Thomas and his wife Nancy will appear on Oprah Winfrey’s chat show to show off his baby bump and announce that they are in fact expecting a baby girl in July. Although Thomas has legally become a man after having a sex change he decided to keep his female reproductive organs and doctors have confirmed that Thomas is in fact pregnant.
Nancy was unable to conceive because of a hysterectomy she had after an illness so Thomas decided to be the one who had the child. Its said that he used a sperm donor to get pregnant using a home insemination kit.
Thomas said that “Wanting a biological child is neither a male nor a female desire, but a human desire”.

I cannot believe when this FEMALE decided to have a SEX change and become a MAN that the damn doctor did NOT remove her uterus and ovaries.. this poor child is going to grow up not knowing what is real and what is FAKE!! It’s another sad day and another stupid show for OPIE!! She must be HARD UP for viewers.. I just stopped a lot of people from waisting their time watching her.. they thought she was going to have a REAL man not some mixed up females trying to be real so called parents to be!!

This is a joke, I thought Oprah was above this kind of sensationalist garbage. This is what our country is coming too? It’s hard to imagine that someone with a mental illness so severe that they would get a sex change and then impregnate themselves would be subject to a seat on a prestigious talk show and not a seat across from a psychologist in a mental institution.
Serious issues at hand here. I hope these two individuals are under the care of a therapist and already have one lined up for the baby.
This individual has some serious issues with herself and for both sides of the couples family to have issues with their decision there will be problems for this child.
Obiviously these two individuals are selfish to want to bring a baby into their world when they have not been honest with their family in regards to their relationship or gender. How can they expect someone to respect them when they have been living a lie.

People are making a big over this but is not a man having a baby. It is a female who decide that she wanted to look like a male to be with a woman to have a child. He is still a she, but just looks like a he. Why we are making this a big deal because women have babies all the time and this is just another woman having a baby.

i think that it is amazing, in my opinion anyone who thinks that it is anything other than a miracle? when a man has the child because his wife couldnt bare her own it is not only the most romantic thing that i have ever heard of, but im thinking of having my boyfriend do the same…haha…but all jokes aside, anyone who would go through all that pain is not only a hero in my book but a god send to all those who cant have their own children…

I think this is absolutely amazing. It’s refreshing to see someone be so open and unafraid and so comfortable with their own gender. Gender and sexuality are such fluid things, based on the individual, not what they look like, how they act or what they’re made of. I hope our society continues to push the envelope of our man made restrictions in the hopes of finding a better place to live, for all people. And hopefully we can all find tolerance even if we don’t understand.

When you are pregnant, you are neither male or female at that point. That is a published medical fact based on the hormones going through your body. The baby which will be born to these two lovely people will know what true love in a relationship is and that it consists of all types of compromise and sacrafice. I personally, am thrilled for this couple. By the way, I am heterosexual, married with 3 grown heteosexual boys and a loving husband of 30 years.
Ok so if try to look like a man and get knocked up will i get into the Oprah show as well?! This is a loving couple that when faced with the fact that they wanted children and his wife couldn’t; the courage and love that Thomas has for his wife and soon to be child is undeniable. Society over all has no Idea what Thomas went through physically, mentally and emotional to become a man. Tons of Theropy, Injections of Testosterone, and painful surgery. I can also bet tons of discrimination, to include some form of job loss. People are worried about a person that loves their spouse and bring a child into a loving home. Where is the outrage publicly at babies being born addicted to drugs, or childern subjected daily to abuse. 15 years ago Society said gays and lesbians could not raise children and now it has become a more socially acceptable. Leave these people be, and let them enjoy what every human couple wants.
I think its a blessing from God that they are still able to have a baby and bring a new baby girl into this world. You shouldn’t listen to all the people who have a problem with it because they are just jealous and they just dont have anything better to do. Being transgender doesn’t mean you have a mental illness. There is nothing wrong with people who feel they are meant to be the opposite sex, they aren’t freaks or any lower than you are. Majority of people are aware and open minded about these kinds of differences in people these days so I doubt this child will edure all those difficulties you’ve mentioned while she grows up. And on that subject, since when does a person have to feel bad about where they came from, what their background is just because others say she has to. It’s all a matter of oppinion and I honestly doubt that this child will listen to the negative things people have to say, it’s only their ignorence anyway, why should she listen.

i’m sure this baby will be loved and well looked after and surely in this day and age thats the most important thing. and to be bought up with an open mind can only be a good thing looking at some of the above comments.
This is a abomination. First this women take a beautiful body and mutilates it with a sex change. Then impregntes herself with a child. You are not a man you are a woman. Abomination have you even thought about the effect this will have on the child. You homosexuals and lesbians are so selfish and self centered that you don’t even take into consideration that child.
How can so many of you spread so much hate? Talking about the poor child, there would be no need to worry about the child if there weren’t people already discriminating against her. Her family is loving and courageous, I have no doubt she will be raised quite well, with a very strong character.
As for saying Thomas didn’t undertake all the surgeries because he knew it was temporary, well that’s just ridiculous. Do you have any idea how invasive and costly bottom surgery is? And the fact that some people just don’t feel the need to do it because their organs do not define who they are. Some of you appear to think that this decision is fleeting and easy, but rather it’s one of the hardest anyone can make in their lifetime.
Thomas and Nancy - Congratulations. Their baby girl will undoubtedly have more love and moral fiber in her upbringing than her classmates who will be taught bigotry and intolerance. It makes me aggravated all the comments and judgements against this event. I wish people would realize this world we live in encompasses more than just our own backyards and this world is changing every second of every day. We are a diverse people and we are all humans with the same emotional and phsyical needs. There is nothing warped about that….but there is something warped in not taking the time to understand or appreciate the differences in our world.
Ok…to say the least it came as perfect discussion matter for my ethics class. God created us male and female. Plain and simple. He didn’t make a mistake when he made me a WOMAN or “Thomas” either. “Thomas” obviously has had some confusion in HER life that led HER to the decision SHE made to become a “man” in the first place.
Just because God has allowed the technology, doesn’t mean that it good. Who are any of us to judge? I believe that child will be loved far greater than some people ever will be. It will be society that treats them wrongly because of people like some of these commentors who are telling them they are wrong to bring a child into this world.

This is what you call love. A man willing to have a child for his wife because she’s not able to is true love. Even when a woman is pregnant, the men don’t really support what their wives go through. I work in radiology and majority of the women who come in for their ob ultrasound come alone. For a man to do this for his wife, is a saint. What people do is their business. This does not affect us in anyway. Who are we to judge? I suggest we let them be and be grateful that Thomas has a loving family who supports him in his decisions. Not many people out there in the world have that kind of support.

Kudos to Thomas, his wife and the Oprah Winfrey show. The courage and fortitude that each of them has demonstrated in bringing this sensitive but important issue to the forefront of American society is well deserving of praise. I have tremendous respect for Ms. Winfrey for her public stance as a member of the vanguard on this issue, and for her support of Mr. Beatie who now will not have to suffer the sorrow of isolation that so many transgendered, intersexed and other gender variant people do. I do not believe that Oprah’s attention to this issue is cynical sensationalism as Ryan points out, but an important step to opening up a dialog in living rooms all across America about the reality and normalcy of transgenderism. As demonstrated by Jessica and Pam’s comments, too many people’s eyes are still closed to the proven biological reality that gender and sexuality do not exist in solely binary terms in either the human or animal population. Failure to recognize this fact will only lead to more of the prejudice and hatred, which Tebogo accurately states will cause so much pain for Thomas and Nancy’s unborn baby. Ironically, every reader who commented about how sorry they felt about the torments this child will have to endure were the people hurling the transphobic epiphytes. Perhaps it’s time they take a long look in the mirror to find out where the hatred they so fear is coming from.
