With prices of the Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 being very close, currently the Playstation 3 is known to have the much better hardware but not the better choice of games.
What would make an Xbox 360 owner move to Sony PS3?
For thousands of people world-wide the answer was simply “RROD”, the hardware was so unreliable that many 360 owners went and brought a PS3 for better hardware and less games (in the hope for more in time).
Now the sides are even:
The Xbox 360’s hardware seems to be much more reliable now with hardly any reports of RROD, so it seems Microsoft have fixed this issue.
The Sony PS3 has not only won the High Definition movie war, but 2008 will see them increase the games collection massively, while it will still not be as good as the Xbox 360 in games collection, it will have more games than you have time to play.
The Xbox 360 has more gamers, so what would make an Xbox 360 owner move to Sony PS3?

I’m one of the lucky ones who bought a launch-day Xbox 360 that still works. But I bought an 80gb PS3 several weeks ago because I wanted to play PS3/PS2 exclusives like Resistance and Resident Evil 4. After a few weeks, however, I’m gaming almost exclusively on the 360 again. I simply find the 360’s games and online services more compelling. Compared to Xbox Live, the Playstation Network seems like a ghosttown with barely-stocked shelves. So far, moreover, I see no reason to play cross-platform games like RSV2 and GTA4 on the PS3 when I can pad my achievement score on the 360. I’m glad to own a PS3 and its Blu-Ray Player; I look forward to MGS4, Home, and LittleBigPlanet. But until the exclusives get better and Sony develops its own point-reward system, I think the bulk of my gaming will continue to be on the 360.
ATTN SAMMY, SHEPPARD AND ANYONE ELSE CONFUSED. go to HOW STUFF WORKS and read how the ps3 has 8 processors, not one. not threads or helpers as you say. 1 processor manages the others simply directing the workload. sony did not lie about its cell. as stated… The “Processing Element” of the Cell is a 3.2-GHz PowerPC core equipped with 512 KB of L2 cache. The PowerPC core is a type of microprocessor similar to the one you would find running the Apple G5. It’s a powerful processor on its own and could easily run a computer by itself; but in the Cell, the PowerPC core is not the sole processor. Instead, it’s more of a “managing processor.” It delegates processing to the eight other processors on the chip, the Synergistic Processing Elements. opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. stick to the facts.
EDDIE
can you please read what you just wrote down..
a processor managing 8 other processors sounds similar like a cpu chip running on thread technology at high speeds… maybe you should not be blinded whats put infront of you buddy!
PS3 guys you cant convince the 360 gamer to jump ship and pretend that the PS3 is better. It wont happen because the 360/PC game world is in the hundreds of millions (thats alot of customers)while the PS3 world is around ten million (still alot but a fraction of the above market) Who cares if the processor is better in the golden getto…I want a new game every two weeks to a month and it will be years before the market will be able to support this 8 core shit. The market may even leap frog over the Sony processor before it goes into full bloom. While blueray is cool its not a deal maker or breaker to 95% of gamers out there as upconverted dvd’s look just fine.
Yes Microsoft can be a shit company but they got the goods with the 360 and the sooner the playstation nation comes to gripps with this fact the better. I may pick up a ps3 for 199 dollars when the next xbox 720 is released to pass the time while the price comes down…thats about it.
im glad IT SOUNDS SIMILAR but the facts are that ps3 contains 8 processors. you xbots have only one halfway valid arguement, that being game library which is about to change in a BIG way this year. hey, dont buy a ps3, why should i care. i bet the xbox 720 will contain a built in blu ray player and some other cool stuff making it similar to ps3 and unfortunately too expensive for you xbots to buy since the ps3 was way too expensive. its gonna be fun to watch from here on out, lol.
@ eddie
the only reason why ppl did not buy the ps3 is because it came out to late on the market as well as it has a small library for game’s, as for the price for both the xbox 360 and the playstation 3 are verry well reasonalble to purchase them. sure ps3 cost’s 100 more but why would anyone go out and buy a system with minimal games out there for it.. I am sure that money is no object when it comes for a great piece of technology. as for the xbox 720 comes out and if it does have a price point of 700 dollars for a console with all the tid bits in it I would buy it at the day of launch without regret because xbox is the way to go for me. i had a ps2 but i moved on to the xbox because i like the way it does not take 20 minutes of my time loading one simple game. the playstation 3 that has the latest technology in it still takes 20 minutes to load one game as were as the 360 takes 10 seconds and your lost in its in depth graphics… so by all this said its just who wants what console and pretty sure that when it comes to money its not a problem…
Personally I was waiting for the PS3 and would never have considered getting a 360. I then received a 360 as a present and was chuffed to bits. Not only that but the PS3 got delayed by a year and my PS2 was beginning to creek. Then came the PS3 launch price £399 ($800), I could build a decent PC for that money. I think Microsoft made a very wise move releasing the console early, despite the RROD which was only sweetened by extending the warranty to 3 years. The questions was ‘What would make an Xbox 360 owner move to Sony PS3?’ and I think the truth for almost all 360 owners is pretty much nothing, why would we? What we may do is buy one when the price is right and use that as well. I can’t be bothered to argue which is more powerful technically because both companies play numbers games.
THE MONEY COMMENT WAS in reply to all the xbots who have been complaining that the ps3 is too expensive although its really a good bargain when all is considered. xbox had few games at its launch so wheres the logic there? as far as loading a game, hey, thats what the hd is there for. all my music gets streamed from my pc so the hds practically empty. criticizing a one time install is nit picking. as to why anyone would buy the ps3… i always knew the games would come, they always do. im a believer in buying the best piece of hardware available, especially with sonys track record. 2007 was a slow year but the times they are a changin.
Enough already.
I have all three systems… I am also on my 4th Xbox 360. Microsoft has done a fabulous job of selling a semi-polished dog turd to the masses. You can say what you want, and I am truly glad for those out there that have had no problems, but the 360 is a poorly designed and engineered POS. Go to the official Xbox/Microsoft forum site… read there what some people have gone through with their systems. It’s rediculous!!! And yet, people continue to purchase them!
Now I am a gamer, pure and simple. It doesn’t matter to me what system it is on particularly… but for a company to ignore what is going on like this is on the far side of criminal.
And I know the fanboys out there are going to MF me for this, but the PS3 is just a better built machine, and the games are their guys. As far as I can tell the days of shitty second hand ports are mostly behind us. RSV2 is a gem! Condemned 2 is a gem! True the exclusives aren’t there… yet. MGS4 is right around the corner, and so is Killzone. I have never had ONE problem with my PS3 or my Wii. That made them worth the money to me.
And never having to send my $400 dollar, less than a year old system in to get repaired just to get another broken one back in the mail that worked for less than 5 minutes, is worth it to me.
Class action law suit anyone?
It’s a damn shame really. Microsoft had a good thing going there for a while… If they would just resolve these hardware failure rates!
They’ve put a LOT of dedicated gamers off… me included.
WAKE UP BILL!!! YOUR LOOSING YOUR CUSTOMERS ONE RROD AT A TIME!!!
JS, you’re such a liar! 4th Xbox360!! Who is the right mind would buy a 4th Xbox360? I have my first Xbox360 and still running now, but I had it repaired to a reliable technician due to a fan problem about a year ago. It was my fault I kept it in a semi-enclosed shelf, probably it overheated and causing a malfunction to its drive, as I was told by the technician and advised me to place the 360 in a well-ventilated area, so I did and not had a problem ever since. The 360 is a powerful machine, it is understandable to give it a good space to breathe. YOU probably don’t have any of that kind of idea whatsoever after four 360s, making you a MORON, or you’re just a PS3 fanboy whose known for being an utter liar.
