CRT Televisions vs. HDTV: high definition better from distance

CRT Televisions vs HDTV

CRT televisions might be the past and old technology, but when standing very close to a CRT and HDTV, the CRT wins hands down. Now does this mean they have much better picture quality?

Although CRT’s look great close up, compare them to a high definition TV from a distance with a HD broadcast, the HDTV wins hands down. How many of us sit close to TV’s, not many I am sure and if you do not have a HD broadcast like Sky HD or Blu-ray with your HDTV then you have not seen how fantastic the picture can be.

Actually, I have a CRT that is HDTV. its 29″ does 480i, 480p, 1080i and 720p. After using this TV for a couple years I can’t even stand to look at a flat panel. The flat panels look grainy, the blacks arent as black and the macroblocking is much more noticable. If my CRT HDTV even has issues, I would definately spend several hundred dollars to fix it rather than switch to an inferior LCD or Plasma.

    CRT Versus HDTV?
What? Huh? CRT referes to a type of display while HD refers to a type of signal. There are plenty of HDTVs which are also CRT. Infact there were HD CRT sets long before there were HD LCD or DLP sets.

My 40″ Loewe CRT (supports Hi-Def res.), kills our 46″ samsung LCD and our 42″ Panasonic Plasma in every way. It’s like comparing cd’s to vinyl, analogue to digital.
You still can’t beat a CRT.
We as a society are conditioned to think new technologies are better than the old simply because the margin of profit for the manufacturer is greater with the new technologies.
This has been true with vinyl compared to cd as it is true with LCD production being a lot more invested in than plasma, at the end of the day Plasma is a better medium than LCD (for it’s color representation qualities) but more expensive so the manufactures can’t make as much profit off plasma hence they push LCD. CRT Tubes are so expensive to produce that manufactures would have to sell over 50 50″ CRT’s to make the profit they can make from one 50″ LCD or 2 50″ Plasma’s (figures not accurate just an example)
Now we have mp3′s as a drop in quality from CD when CD was already a drop in quality from vinyl, Television’s have been going the same way. CRT->Plasma->LCD.

you don’t have your television calibrated properly then. If properly calibrated, and playing uncompressed video (i.e. Blu-ray) it would FAR outshine your CRT television. CRT’s just blur the picture more so it doesn’t have any aliasing, however, if properly calibrated your HD TV it would look AMAZINGLY better than a runny, murky CRT television. I promise you.
