Xbox 360: worst console ever created, eats discs and RROD

I know that this will upset thousands of gamers, but it does seem as if the Xbox 360 is the worst games console that was ever created. The thing is you need to have a look at some facts, Microsoft’s games console likes to eat discs. My brother was playing Forza 2, when his Xbox 360 decided that it was hungry and started to devourer the disc, what was left was a disc that was badly scratched.
And that is not all; many people are on their second Xbox as the first got that dreaded RROD. I had an Xbox and had it for just under a year, and then I got that Red Ring of Death. I was upset, however thankfully I had it repaired free of charge from Microsoft.
Since I purchased my Sony PS3; my Xbox 360 seems to be gathering dust. Maybe I might give it away to someone or use it as a doorstop, well it is bulky enough.

thats more than a little opiniated and biased dont you think? -
i for one have had the same launch xbox since the day it was released and i have YET to have any RROD or disc scratching situations.
And the fact that this is on a Product review site makes things worse - hardly a review is it?
its comments and blogs like this one that is giving the 360 a bad name..
It’s made by microsoft…say no more!
thats true the 360 is the worst console ever made.u are not alone dude .me and my frens either have rrod or disc problem.ps3 is the best console ever made .well now some xbox dude might thing i am sony fan. the fact that really happened to me and my buddies is true .if u like gambling, taking risk, playing poker then buy 360.
360 is great but ps3 is a litlle bit btter than the xbox 360.
@bob,
360 ever had a good name? I mean its well publicized god awful RROD 16-30% failure rate.
yeah, my xbox did the same thing, and im on my 3rd one, so i dont even buy games no more on it for fear of it combusting on me. even for multiplatform games i get them for my ps3 so i wont have to deal with my discs getting scratched or whatever else negative that the stupid box will do…..i like my ps3 always have and always will, and as for BOB well damn your one lucky bastard, everyone i know had their xbox crap out or eat discs at some point…….xbox360 is a faulty piece of hardware, i have my little brother who works at a gamestop and even they recommend ps3’s now because in reality they dont want people to pay 400 for a machine that has a good chance of dying on them
ohhh…let me guess, this site isn’t clocking enough hits, you guys needed some attention, you decided to raise up a storm by posting an obviously attention-grabbing article & to be honest you might just succeed -at least for a week anyway.
Well in terms of hardware defiantly. in terms of games defiantly not. But IMO that is no reason to go out and buy one that would just say you can screw me as long as you promote good games but MS knows theres alot of fools with money to spend.
Now I’ll sit back and wait for the Xbox 360 defensive to come out and explain to me why the 360 is a better choice then the others.
lol… the Fanboys!!!
Seems that these days any loser with a computer writes articles…
Your site absolutley sucks because all you do is start controversy. It’s the same shit over and over again just flipped another way. Listen if you move the 360 from verticle to horizontal then yes you will get a stratched disk. So sorry the 360 isn’t exactly idiot proof. If you did it in the begining then fine, you went through a learning curve. If you do it again your an idiot.
“lol… the Fanboys!!!
Seems that these days any loser with a computer writes articles…”——–>I agree, who ever wrote this article is an idiot of the lowest kind.
This is the worst web site created.
It’s extremely biased, unprofessional and designed to start console fan boy flame wars.
I think it’s time your parents took away your internet rights for awhile..
Microsoft can’t do anything right I liked it when my wireless mouse’s left click stopped working a week after I got it or when they tried to make WiFi hardware that sucked X box and X box 360 that give 16% to 30% of users the RED RING OF DEATH (me included) and the flop of vista. Now on my seventh 360 and the last microsuck that I’ll ever own.
I will have to say that i am currently on my 4th 360, so i completely agree with you. Plus their customer service really sux cuz you can hardly understand what the people are saying the only reason i have my 360 still is because of halo. thats about it
you bitches are really dumb for even buying another 360 2,3,4,5, times. Just shows your poor decision making and jugdement is fucked up. Stop fucking yo selfs you stupid fucks.
How you love that.
They don’t keep purchasing new xbox 360’s they send them to get repaired for free because of the 3 year warranty on the RROD.
360’s don’t eat disks unless some fool moves it while the disc is playing. And what the hell is that about the 360 being too bulky?
WAKE UP MAN. The PS3 is bigger AND heavier.
Peter, you are an idiot.
“I know that this will upset thousands of gamers”
^^^Love it. It should say millions of Xbox fanboys :-). Yea its true. I really dont like Xbox. One thing i’ll be honest about though is their media capabilities. They are badass.
Keep it honest brah, the 360 is garbage….The PS3 has two lasers and the 360 only one…Peace…
Ok who some of you 360 fans have to start defending your purchase better then this. The way I see it the only good thing microsoft has accomplished is the games and maybe there xbox live. but to me the hardware is the foundation of the service and if it has problems then why buy it. The only reason I could ever see and it is a dumb reason IMO is if your friend has one so i have to have one? plain peer pressure is no justification to spend around 300 to 450+. I think people should really put more thought behind why they want to buy something. maybe that would get microsoft to stop using poor hardware or go back to doing what they do best making software. you cann’t do own everything.
NO matter what 360 fanboys accuse this site of doing there is no denying the appaling failure rate of the 360’s and the eating disk problem,…. and the not being able to read disk problem…. oah yea and the not ejecting the disk problem…. and obviously the RROD….. oah yea and the huge amount of noise pollutuion you could almost mistake it for a jet engine.
The ps3 is a master piece of technology, all of the stuff inside it and it has an incredibly low failure rate and runs with a silent hhhhuuuummmm and well the wii I love that little sleek white box that need almost no ventilation
These compared to the huge clanking and clunking melting 360s…. im on my fourth one
and at some idiot who thought the guy who wrote the article was moving his 360 when it scratched. He didnt move it the 360 scratched the disk on its own accord, the same for me it was just sitting there and I hear weird noises coming from it then i eject the disk and theres a masive grey cirle going around the disk and I don’t want to shell out another £ 40
for COD 4
I am already on my second xbox. The system itself is terrible. But the games and the online network make up for it right now. I also have a ps3 and I’m sure by the end of this year it will be my primary console. It does amaze me though that my xbox 360 which I got in 2005 died and I’m already on my second one while my regular Nintendo which I got in 1990 works just as good as the day I got it. Even my dad’s old Intellevision still works better then a 360 ever will.
Thats a review?
What you failed to mention was the volume numbers of the 360 vs PS3 and the noted repair work on each.
Now that the PS3 is selling better it too has had numerous repair issue that are just now being posted around the net.
I’m one of those that has already turned mine in for an exchange.
What about the Wii? No offense but the Wii is being completely ignored. PS3 and X360 aren’t the only consoles. Some hard core gamers might discount the Wii as a low quality system and not a big deal but they are being purchased in large numbers and there is still a shortage in Wii supply as demand continues to outstrip supply.
The Wii also has good graphics it is not designed as a HD based console — however, the graphics are still great. Take a good look at Super Mario Galaxy: it has amazing graphics.
I don’t like the PS3 although I was a big PS2 fan — the reason being the Blu Ray junk. Don’t get me wrong its nice that Sony wants to offer Blu Ray playback via the PS3 but its mandatory that PS3 come with Blu Ray according to Sony policies — at least X360 offers a standalone HD DVD drive — it isn’t forced on the consumer you can buy X360 without HD DVD — what’s more the Blu Ray stuff is what caused the PS3 to have such a high price tag in the first place. As Sony is struggling to regain lost market share on PS3 they are making price cuts on PS3 but the damage is already done. The more they advertise Blu Ray in PS3 the less likely I’ll buy one.
A games console first and foremost should have good exclusive games and a good selection of cross platform games also. The PS3 was released with a weak selection of games. They are focusing more on media playback than games. A games console should have games first and media playback second. I don’t mind PS3 offering media playback but Sony is putting games on the back burner — that is it falls short on games. Until they improve the availability of good games — they are starting to come out with more games apparently (at least I think they are) but they have a long way to go still.
Focus more on games and offer multi-player gaming online like XBox Live does. XBox has its own faults but has some pros too in the XBox Live department for games. Micro$oft customer service is a joke. Sony’s Blu Ray also has copy protection built-in which is bad for consumers although the studios like it. Some suggest since Blu Ray won the disc format war it will help PS3 sales well even then I’m not buying a PS3 even if the price went down to $100 unless they get some great games and put more emphasis on games than media playback.
My launch console (360) made it till last week when it RROD. My launch elite’s drive went out a 4 months after I got it, the replacements video went out a month ago. Xbox 360 is the biggest piece of crap when compared to every game system ever made. Bought a ps3 over the holidays and I like it, but have my fingers crossed that the available good game situation improves sooner than later. I WILL be buying all future cross-platform games for my ps3, except Condemned 2 cause I have a feeling the ps3 version will be seriously sub par.
You only have to look at the articles on this piss poor excuse for a website to see that they only ever get hits when they write a dumb fanboy story like this one as they really arent capable of anything better, if anybody connected with this site is any older than 12 i’d be truly shocked as my 10 year old nephew could put together better stories than these clowns.
Isn’t it about time Product Reviews wrote about something other than the wars between the xbox 360, ps3 and wii, i mean come on - you’re meant to be reviewing products, not crawling up Sony’s ass.
huh not surprised. microsoft has done jack sh*t. should i purchase a mac or pc?, its a wise decision. anyway i know 5 PEOPLE who have AT LEAST had 1 problem with their 360. while my PS3 is in tip top condition (for how long, lol). To be honest 360 is a good console and the PS3 is the biggest downside, well for now.
I enjoy and love my 360
but there is always a part of me what says Microsoft did make a silly mistake at rushing the console to market
I must be on my 6th 360 but i dont mind, Microsoft has learnt tehre lesson and in doing so they have loss a huge amount of money to try and fix the problem.
What i recommend everybody to do is in future consoles Purchase from companies like Argos, liek i did. If my 360 breaks down (liek my last 5) i just quickly packed it up went back to argos and got a swap there and then you only waste 1hr of your time compared to having to wait upto a month.
and the warranty also gets refreshed becouse its classed as a new console
anyway to the author he is right but also whats the friggin point of posting your problems all you are doing is stiring up the all ready over the top fanboy racism.
I love product-reviews.net I find the writing of the highest standard. Others should look and learn. If only all news sites were like this. I wouldn`t be surprised if google buys you tomorrow - thats how good your site is…
Only kidding.
Ya pretty poor article but you can’t really disagree with it. The 360 is a poorly made piece of crap, and i would have to say the worst ever made.
@annonymous You must not have seen 1080p HD then. Cause otherwise Blu Ray would be a selling point. When all of you people that say HD isn’t a big deal and Blu Ray is worthless it leads me to believe that you have never seen REAL HD compared to SD. (and also pay no attention to current tv sales) It’s unreal. Check out Planet Earth on BD.
@scoob101
ROTFL!
microsoft is a software company and sony is one of the best electronics brand out there microsoft cant do hardware compared to sony who makes good tvs and other devices
Ok Yes Microsoft did screw up. They rushed the console into the market to beat Sony. But people act like they never acknowledged it. The reason I stand behind The 360 no matter what problems they may have is because out of the 3 competing next generation consoles, 2 of them are about the games and about you the gamer. Just look at the thouht process of all 3 console makers. Nindendo which has been lacking and considered for the younger crowd has took back seat to Sony after the Playstation Brand came out. They were suppose to come out with a console together but had a dissagrement about cartridge or disk. Nindendo arguement was that disk had hugh load times which was true in the PS1 & PS2. But the games were better and different from the usual Nintendo world that people at the time were probably getting tired of and Playstation was definately more advanced and catered to the more serious gamer. So Nindendo has taken a back seat for some time. But it is funny to see that it all started with a format decision. There is no doubt that with PS1 and PS2 that Sony was about the gamer. There libary was huge but the problem with there libary was that there were more crap games then good games But they were about the gamer. Then Microsoft came along. They were like Sega’s replacement because for some reason I’m really not sure of Sega took third place behind Nintendo and then they decided to be a game maker instead when they just couldn’t sell. But Sega was the first to go online and there games were good. Well back to microsoft. So they came out with the original Xbox and it was all about the games. It had online play and a smaller libary compared to Sony, but a majority of their games were great and had better graphics then the PS2 and it had a hard drive. It even gave birth to the Halo Phenomenon. So here we are in the next generation of consoles. Nintendo decided to change the game with a new way to play games. When I first saw this I wanted one right away. I have not done so yet but I will get one in the future. The decision made by Nintendo reviatalized the brand, put a new concept on gaming and should be apploaded. They even had game of the year with that Mario Title and I can only see things getting better for them. Smash Brothers I believe it selling great. Sure they did not have the amazing graphics found on the other two systems but it good enough and fun and it out selling the other two consoles which are technically better. Microsoft came with the 360 a year before Sony and Nintendo. It continued where the original Xbox left off. Now here is where my point comes into play. Microsoft came out with a console with the gamer in mind. Great games and Online play is all they push. Yet when you get the console there is much more to it then that. The xtras that come with it are just that, xtras. I’m talking about the marketplace the arcade, the Movies, TV Showes, Demos, Videos, XNA, Downloadable content, MSN Messenger, Rumble in the controler, HD DVD add on, removable face plates, Achievements, Being able to stream content from your computer, Media Centre, support for Mpeg, DIVX, WMA and what ever else. What more could a gamer ask for. There games were even more adult like. Then there is Sony and the Playstation 3 who in my eyes should have had the number 1 spot due to the fact that the PS2 was the best selling console of all times. They had the heart of most gamers and all they had to do was capitalize on that. Instead they got cockey knowing that the Playstation 2 was the best selling console and thought they could come out with whatever and that people would but it because it was he next Playstation. They lost their focus which was games and tried to push 2 products on consumers through 1 machine driving the price above what a gaming machine should cost. Those Products are the Cell Processor and Blu-Ray. Lets face it the Playstation 3 would have sold and been #1 without any of thoes products. All they had to do was keep making games incorporate a hard drive and improve there online. The cell processor which in my mind belongs in a Sony Computer or Avio and a Blu-ray player which I do agrees with it being in the Playstation 3 but it should have been pushed as a stand alone player and the games should have been pushed as being on bluray disk which have more capicity meaning bigger and better games. The Playstation 3 is having and identity Crisis. I don’t know if it’s a Gaming machine or a Bluray Player. The Playstation comes packaged with a Bluray disk. Not even a game. Talk about a slap in the face to gamers. I think it is so unfair and utterly stupid that when I walk into Best Buy and I go the the DVD Player section that the price of a Samsung or LG or whoever makes Bluray player other then Sony is more expensive then the PS3. I have no Idea why they even botherd to make one. Thoes companies should have come out with a HD DVD player instead it would have made more sence in terms of sales. My point is that Microsoft and Nintendo really have the gamer at heart and even though the 360 has issues, it still has the better games, better online, Better graphics which is why it’s #2. They messed up this time but they are making improvements and have the best warrenty. And don’t think for one moment that the next console after the 360 will be the most amazing machine as they have gone through a learning curve. Microsot has even push the Games for Windows trying to revitalize the PC Gaming market. I’m going to stick with the company they gives us what we want which is the reason your here in the gaming secton of Product Reviews.
To add to my thoughts I also forgot to mention that there was no rumble support in the begining for the Playstation 3 and they coppied what Nintendo and Microsost had origianlly improved on. Everything on the Playstation 3 are not improvements that they came up with on their own. It’s all coppied. Take for instance the Online Gaming and Motion Control and Having a Hard Drive. They are not inovators when it comes to games. That is why I stand behing real Gaming inovators which is Microsoft and Nintendo. They show that they really have the gamer at heart.
CAD - YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
To all the people saying that Sony should not have gone with Blue Ray and used HD DVD have you not been paying any attention? HD DVD is dead. They are not going to be putting movies out on them any more. Blue Ray won the format war like VHS did vs Beta. It is looking really good for Sony that they put the blue Ray player in the PS3. Especially when you look and see the price of a Blue Ray player is more than a PS3.
For those talking about the lack of games, this summer is going to make up for the poor launch games.
