New Line Cinema has been a subsidiary of Time Warner for a while now and has closely been allied to Warner Bros. Today, however, it has been announced that the indie studio is being folded into its larger partner.
It’s name will remain as a genre arm, making comedies and horrors, but it’s definitely the end of New Line as we know it.
What’s more upsetting is that many of the companies 600 employees face losing their jobs. This weekends release of Semi-Pro will be the last time New Line films will be marketed as New Line films. After Semi-Pro, films will be released under the Warners label.
So what are the reasons behind the fold? Well, the move is part of a plan to cut costs at Warners and subsequently raise the stock price. For more information, click here.
For all you Hobbit fans out there, this is one movie that is said to be unaffected by the move!
