GDC 2008 broke attendance record: Invite only for 2009?

Although during this year’s GDC 2008 event the rain fell heavy, it did not seem to affect the attendance as the 08 conference broke all records. The show managed to host 18,000 game industry professionals, the maximum GDC has pulled in before is about 16,000 so that’s an increase of 2,000.

However GDC 2009 might have lower attendance figures, as the show which will be back at attendance might be on an invite only basis. Organizers of GDC are stating that it could become an “invite model for press access.” Let us hope that this does not affect the conference for next year as GCD 08 was superb.
