Apple iPhone (Mac in a tiny, keyboard-less package) vs. RIM Blackberry Smartphone
February 28, 2008 | Filed under Cell Phones, Handsets

The iPhone from Apple without a doubt is one of the hottest and must have gadgets, before I held one in my hands I did wonder what all the fuss was about. Although I still do not have an Apple iPhone, my brother and cousin own one, and boy do they like to remind me.
Many people see the iPhone as a Mac in a tiny, keyboard-less package and as such are like a small general use computer. And the thing is there seems to be no end as to what the iPhone can do, as the handset is always receiving updates.
Then we come to the RIM Blackberry Smartphone, it seems that it has none of these features that make the iPhone so great, you wonder how the Smartphone would be able to compete against Apple’s handset.

Why do I see a Palm in the picture alongside the Iphone. Wait, it is a Palm. Dumb author!
“you wonder how the Smartphone would be able to compete against Apple’s handset”
And yet RIM is growing exponentially.
iPhone is fun. BlackBerry gets the job done. BlackBerry gets my vote.
Of course, it would help if you used the right picture. You’ve got a Palm Treo.

Take your pick.
BlackBerry messaging, calendar and contacts are superb, and absolutely critical.
A pretty iPhone with a beautiful but useless browser is a toy - but good for multimedia.
BlackBerry first, iPhone as a luxury for evenings and weekends
The Single Point of failure NOC like last month was bad. The new Texas NOC will be up soon from what I read.
Secure Encrypted Email Good > Apple none
BES Good. Apple does not have a corporate solution.
Why does the Military, Corp and Gov have RIM everywhere? Because it works. Email works amazing
fast. No other device can touch it for email.
Windows? Palm..Windowz OS…Most people are reseting there phone every 2 days. My 8700 has uptime for close to a month now. What is Apple uptime on phones?
When your in a car, (not that its encouraged) One hand typing blows away fingers sliding around and using two hands to hold and work with a device. Think about it. People dont really think about that.
BlackBerry Wins (Hand Down!)
My Dad gave me his Blackberry when he got the new iPhone. I used it, it did okay. I didn’t have any real complaints. My Dad could not use his iPhone. He didn’t like the keyboard or it touch interface. He gave me the iPhone and took the Blackberry back. I now have the iPhone and, compared to the Blackberry, well there is no comparison. The iPhone is to phones what the jet engine was to planes. It probably is not for older folks who are push button orientated. I can see how it might be hard for older users to make the leap to the new interface; but the email worked seamlessly for me.
