Can anybody beat David Archuleta on American Idol?
David is a fantastic singer and is quite possibly the best thing that American Idol has ever had in the competition and whether he wins or not he is sure to get some kind of deal out of this.
On Tuesday night, David performed his own version of John Lennon’s incredible “Imagine”. His vocals were amazing and that was perhaps the best cover of that song we have ever heard.
David is one of the youngest finalists on the show winning a spot in the top twenty at seventeen years old.
It’s said that David once suffered partial vocal paralysis but refrained from risky surgery and feels he has fully recovered.
What do you think has America found its winner before the show has really got started?

David Archuleta has more mega-star potential than any contestant ever. This kid is the next big thing - he has it all. Movies, whatever he chooses. A star in anybody’s company - and more !
Not since Eliot Yamin in season 5 and Lakisha Jones in season 6 (during the first stages of the early top 24) have I heard a performer that has given me multiple chills up and down my spine when singing. He is pure and amazing. Of course Rueben Studdard and Fantasia created that same tingling sensation!. But as in past seasons with Eliot and Lakisha, these amazing performers have not won…but I still think David A will become a mega-star. I’m mid-50’s in age, and he reminds me so much of singer Neil Sedaka in the pure sincerity and phrasing of his songs.
Yes, he has a good voice. And he’s photogenic enough. But
he messed up the lyrics of this classic song, and considering how simple those lyrics are, this incompetence is something to consider–it means he just learned this song?
Also, he jazzed it up almost beyond recognition.
this kid will definitely be a star. i am just not sure about how well he will do when he, later in the season, has to sing more uptempo songs. he is amazing at ballads, but he might struggle a little with uptempo songs.. lets hope he does, otherwise the competition this year wont be very exciting.
It’s easy to see why David Archuleta is the teen favorite. He looks like the offspring of Troy and Gabriella from High School Musical. And he’s got a gorgeous voice, so he appeals to the adults too.
BuffaloBob, I am nearly your age, and I totally agree with your Neil Sedaka comment. I didn’t think about it while listening to David, but it fits. This kid is amazing; he literally brings tears to your eyes. Oh, and I have one comment to Jeannie’s post - they asked him about why he didn’t sing the first verse, and he said he only had time for one and liked the other verse better. The only place he changed the lyrics was at the end when he said “take my hand”. (Besides, the kid is a pro. Any changes he makes are probably intentional. There is a video on YouTube of him singing this entire song while playing the piano, when he was much younger. He obviously has known the song for years.)
I thought he reminded me of a young Josh Groban. I bet he can the phone book and sound amazing.
oops - type too quick there. I think he could SING the phone book and sound amazing.
If you go back & listen to that old video of him singing Imagine, it’s almost painful to watch… he looks like he’s in pain. Between that & his performance last night, This kid’s voice is so refined and his control is amazing. And Jeannie dear, there was absolutely nothing “Jazzie” about his rendition. I think Mr. Lennon would have been proud! Ditto on the tears Laurie!
THE BEST VOCAL I’VE EVER HEARD IN AMERICAN IDOL.
DAIVD IS YOUNG TOO.
