The EU has fine Microsoft a record breaking $1,4dn for defying sanction that they imposed on the software giant. The European Commission original finned Microsoft for abusing their position of being the most dominant in the market. The EU finned Microsoft €497 million back in 2004 then another €280.5 million in 2006, the total in fines now adds to €1.68 billion that’s a massive $2.5bn.
The European Commission was shocked and said that no company has ever ignored any sanctions before, and this failure to comply with the EU commission has resulted in this fine. Neelie Kroes from the EU Commission said I hope that today’s decision closes a dark chapter in Microsoft’s record of non-compliance with the Commission’s March 2004 decision.” The tough decision shows that no one is above the law, it does seem as if Microsoft is having a very hard time of late, and are not the all powerful that they once was.
