Microsoft Vista Capable stickers
If the massive fine of $1.4bn (€899 million) by the European Commission was not bad enough for Microsoft, we are now hearing that the Vista Capable sticker lawsuit has been given class-action status by a federal judge.

When I got my first Vista ready computer it was 3 months before Vista was due out, so I thought I would have no problems at all…I was wrong. Some different software already installed would not work; the CD drive would not open and other little problems.

While I love Vista and think it’s much better than Windows XP, I can understand how this Vista Capable sticker lawsuit has come about.

This lawsuit is regarding “the suit alleges that the Vista Capable stickers slapped on PCs during the 2006 holiday season created inflated prices for computers that couldn’t be upgraded to the full-featured version of Vista.

I normally despise what Microsoft does and feel they are an unfair monopoly. But I have to say that no one should have been deceived by the sicker Vista Capable. I bought my laptop deliberately before Vista came out with the intention that I would never install Vista of any version. I prefer XP. I knew from the web that my laptop would not handle anything but Vista Basic. The salesman at Microcenter where I purchased my laptop tried to move me up to a “Vista Ready” laptop. At some point the consumer has some responsibility to study before they make a major purchase. As much as I dislike Microsoft I have to say I think this law suite is unfair to them. Well that is my opinion for what ever it is worth.

I can agree with the lawsuit to an extent…reason being that a good percentage of ppl buying computers are newbies…they dont know much of what they are getting into or the technologies history or whatnot…so they will just go with what the salesman tells them for simplicities sake….
