It has been reported that the UK was rocked by a major earthquake early today.
The tremor was felt across 300 miles from Brighton to County Durham and from Norfolk to Wales.
It’s said that People were shaken from their beds shortly before 1am with buildings rocked and huge cracks appearing in walls.
Apparently the earthquake was measured at 5.1 on the Richter Scale with its epicentre in Lincolnshire.
Dr Brian Baptie of the British Geological Survey confirmed the event was an earthquake and said “It’s certainly one of the biggest we have felt in the UK in recent years, and the largest earthquake since 1990. We get earthquakes of this size roughly every ten to 20 years.”
Emergency services were flooded with calls and it’s not yet known what damage has been done or if any one got injured.
West Midlands was hit six years ago by an earthquake in the Dudley area that reached 5.0 on the Richter Scale and caused damage to many homes so this one must have caused some damage I would have thought.

We live in Rossendale in a terraced house at 1am our living room loor sunk down on itself and then popped back up. It was like something out of a film very scarey.
I live on the Wirral peninsular. The house was not damaged in any way but it rocked. It felt as though thw walls were shaking, as Paula says it was quite scarey not knowing what was happenning.
I live in Stockton-on-Tees in the north east. I’d just gone to bed and the bed started shaking violently in two bursts. Downstairs my boyfriend’s chair also shook. I had a call from a friend 10 miles away whose bed had also been shaking.
