Apple’s iPhone illegal in Australia: under current trade practice laws
By: Peter Chubb | February 26, 2008
It seems as if the must have gadget that everybody wants to get their hands on, could face a setback in Australia. Under current Australian trade practice laws, the Apple iPhone is illegal. With this legal issue in mind, it seems as if the iPhone could be delayed.
The problem is as the Apple iPhone has exclusivity deals in place with certain mobile carriers, this is classed as being anti-competitive. The iPhone uses technology so that only one carrier can be used on the phone. Many have tried to unlock their handsets, only to find that they stop working, and if it does work the warranty will become void.
We will have to wait and see what the outcome will be with this legal row.
