Dust on Nintendo Wii and Sony PS3 gets all gaming time

Although I love the Nintendo Wii, I never seem able to give it any gaming time as the Sony PS3 gets it all. The Nintendo Wii has been collecting dust, but I gave it a good go the other day by spending £160 on some new games and played for the evening because some family were over.
That was 4 days ago and since then it has not been used again, but the Sony PS3 has had many hours everyday on games like Call of Duty 4 and Unreal Tournament III.
Am I the only gamer with the Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii that has this problem, or do other gamers with both these systems find that the Wii only gets played when people are over at the most.

NO You are not !!!!
Do not cry about it
Wii Wii.
This will be happening more and more! the wii is just a party machine, nothing more! kids and grandparents and people who don`t know how to use a more complex remote! nintendo is and always will be for kids!
You are not alone, I don’t really buy any games for my Wii. But my PS3 gets all the new games coming out like Call of Duty 4, Unreal III, Drakes, and Devil May Cry 4. I have 3 Wii games, Wii Sports, Zelda, and Excite Truck.
Same … some initial ‘family’ time games, but we use the PS3 as our HD based family entertainment center for transcoded content, Blu-Ray movies, family picture slide shows, music and gaming.
It’s your own damn fault you don’t get good games like No More Heroes, Zak and Wiki, or Medal of Honor 2:Heroes. I’m 29 years old, and I can let you know the Wii isn’t just for kids or for old people.
It seems the only one’s who are saying this are teenagers(which ARE kids.)
Sadly this has been the case since I beat Super Mario Space Bee. I found I am not really excited about any upcoming Wii games. Strangely I’m playing Pixeljunk Monsters and Super Stardust HD more than anything else right now.
thats the same thing with my older brother!
but he plays my ps3! (he even brought fifa 08 just so he can play on it)
he has had the wii since it was launched and the other week i asked him if i could play on it so he got it out of his draw (that alone proves he dont play on it) and let me have it in my room for over a week! after about 5 days on it i got bored. i also checked his calendar and it showed me that he has not even played on it once a month!
i might buy it of him though just so i have all 3 next gen consoles and mainly for monster hunter 3
Sorry, but being a 3 console owner, my beautiful PS3 is the one that gathers dust. Although I have played UT3 and loved Uncharted and Heavenly Sword, I don’t find the time to play PS3 games that much.
The wii has had it’s dry spells for me. But I played the hell out of Excite Truck, SSX Blur, Prime 3, Batallion Wars 2, Medal of Honor H2, Geometry Wars, Mario Galaxy, RE Umbrella Chronicles and No More Heroes.
(And I’ll be enjoying the hell out of Brawl and Mario Kart this year as well)
Then for the 360 we all know about COD4 (my game of 07), Halo3 (it was ok), Mass Effect (ok, I’m still trying to get into it, but not an RPG fan), Crackdown…damn, I know I played a hell of alot of other games…can’t remember em right now.
Now come release of Resistance 2, I’m all over the PS3 for a week or so! Once the PS3 starts getting a steady flow of it’s big exclusives, maybe the wii and 360 will gather some dust.
Ok, lets see what will happen if there is a next generation PS4. Lets see if 360 and Sony will go to wii’s way or will they stick to the classic way? If they do change (which they will because it is all about money) then what will your next system be? Huh?
To Daniel: I think that that Wii is geared more towards casual gamers and non-games (I’m a casual gamer, myself), while the PS3 is gears towards the hardcore gamers. I may be incorrect in my assumption, but it sounds to me like you are a hardcore gamer. My advice: just try to get friends to come over more often (and I don’t mean gamer friends, I mean any random friend.) Chances are, they’d rather play Wii. This can help with your Wii not being used, might open you up to a different approach to gaming.
To Johnson: Nintendo is not “just for kids”. Sure, just because it doesn’t have as many shooting-style games or RPG’s as other consoles, doesn’t mean anything. There are a vast amount of other game types than just those. Many people (myself included) often prefer a game where we can sit (or stand or crawl or whatever) for an hour or two once or twice every 5 days. The style of games the Wii offers reflects this more that the games on the PS3. And just because a game is “simple to use” doesn’t mean it’s a kid’s game. It’s the same reasoning some people use when they say cartoons are for kids. And I’m pretty sure Southpark is not a kid’s show.
Have to agree. Wii is for when a mate comes round if we dont wanna play COD4. Wii has not been played in 3 weeks. PS3 is used every day if poss.
Who cares what you like to play more. You are one person and in the minority.
The MASSES like the Wii more, as is clearly demonstrated by SALES. Wii will continue to destroy PS3 this year because their are A LOT more casual gamers than dork gamers like yourself.
It’s cool that you like the PS3, and it is a fine system, but all you Sony fanyboys who continue to predict the demise of the Wii have absolutely no clue.
There is room for both, just a much larger market for Nintendo.
If you want to make money this year, put the money you would have spent on PS3 games into Nintendo stock.
I play my Wii, but admittedly my PS2 gets more time. Wii is great for Virtual Console, Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy and internet, but it does lack the RPGs that I love.
just unplug the wii for the last time and going on ebay tomorrow…. even then kids prefer the PS3… wii was a great idea but needs more depth.
sorry im with nintendo and always will be. i have both ps3 and wii and at the min i have 2 ps3 games and 10 wii games. my primairy console is my wii. Have you not heard of metroid prime, mario galaxy, truma centre, RE:UC and game to come like no more heros, super smash bros brawl and mario kart. The wii defently has good games on it, there just different from the general shooter, racer and football games on the ps3.
and johnson the wiimote is a lot more advanced than the “complex” ps3 controller. nintendo specialise in user interface for games.
I agree, i play my wii more as a gamecube because the games are better. Party only and thats only short lived because the games are so repetetive. I love it and i hate it at the same time!
The Wii is an underpowered novelty. Good idea and in concept but lousy in practice. With loosy goosy controls and inferior graphics it’ll be remembered as the system that brought fresh blood into the gamer fold. The PS3 is a true next gen, forward thinking, and-with its sixaxis-a nod towards guesture based control (which IS the future…once they get all the wrinkles ironed out) and ubber high capacity blu ray drive, the PS3 is–currently–the ultimate gaming console.
… super smash bros, mario galaxy, no more heroes, red steel 2, star wars the forced unleashed (yes finally the star wars light saber game for the wii. red stell isnt out yet but no more heores is soon and so is smash bros and red steel 2 has already been confirmed by official nintendo magazine of the UK. assume the wii has next to no hardcore games, it was starved last year so nintendo could focus on capturing the casual market. I admit it still won’t have as hard core ghames as the ps3 and 360 but it deffinetely has quiet a few.
em its not a problem as such more of a situation realy. i havnt played the wii since finishing galaxy.meanwhile though ive been playing my 360 to death where the good games keep rolling out. was playing unreal t on ps3 but im getting my online kicks on xbox live mostly.simply cant be matched at the moment. on a final note…friend codes = worst idea ever.
OK - I am 34 years old and I agree with this article. I just like the PS3 better. I don’t want to jump around in my family room alone and play with my Wii. When I want to settle in for the evening, it’s with a nice warm cup of COD BABY!!! Wii just sucks.
Why do we keep placing a console like wii to ps3 or xbox. wii is just a toy nothing more and has sold more since is way cheaper so it’s at everyone’s reach.
To Bob:
Please explain how PS3 represents forwards thinking at all. It is just a powered up PS2, which was a powered up PS1. The whole six axis control came about after the revealing of the wii mote, and graphics aren’t the most important thing about a game. Most people would agree that a game with excellent gameplay but without really good graphics is preferential to a game with excellent graphics but sucky game play, like Lair. Besides, the PS3 for all its technology (the cell) hasn’t shown any superior graphics to the 360, which also has way better games and doesn’t force people to by a high def player. So please think before to talk and say that the PS3 is in anyway more innovative then any of the other consoles, especially the Wii (not to say the Wii is perfect), and please stop being a Sony fanboy and try to see the benefits in the other consoles and instead of being a blind idiot.
i have never really been into video games till i got my wii it was the best it was fun for about a month and then i got a ps3 (for the blu-ray player thing that i heard about) i bought lots of blu-ray movies and downlaod songs onto my ps3 and used it for pretty much everything that has do do with electronics i play video (warhawk is the best game lol i suck a it but it is still fun i suck at all war game but this wargane doesn’t get boring when getting killed all the time lol) games on it watch blu-ray movies and dvd movies and songs song’s off my ipod. the ps3 is preffered by pretty much every1 of my friends who come ever to play motorstorm and warhawk the wii was fun for a while but it is not used much anymore
I agree. I had always been a fan of nintendo consoles since the original NES through to the gamecube. The wii seemed like a really good idea in theory, but i ended up with the buyers remorse as i hated the slow to respnd remote and i thought the graphics were better on the gamecube. As Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles was a big let down and with no other games out or to be released that appeal to me ( that are not offered exclusively to the wii ) the console has turned into a rather expensive paperweight.
PS3 makes a great Blu-Ray player, but my wii is more fun. MOH 2, Resident Evil, Wii Sports, Metroid Prime, Super Mario, and soon to be Brawl.
I’m sorry the archaic control system on the next gen consoles just don’t cut it. The games a pretty but the game play is all last Gen. I can’t find one so called great game on the next Gen consoles that does not emulate games that have been played on the PC for years. Sorry I already have a PC. When the PS2 came out with great games like Tekken, Crash, GTA, GT along with the sports games, I rushed out and picked one up. When the XBox came out pushing PC games I quickly got bored with it. It’s repackaged UT, Half Life, and Far Cry with no innovation.
I also feel the same, but when brawl cmems…………..ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh bbbbbbbbboooooooooooooyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GameCube any one? Or have we forgot what the third party games have done to Nintendo. It’s only a matter of time. This is from someone who owned nes, super nintendo,N64 and Gamecube tired of lack of adult games for Nintendo’s products.Yeah they have great games. But I would have missed out on Cod4, the elder scrolls etc.,etc, etc, etc, etc the list only builds the longer you own it!
WHOAH!!!!
STOP THE PRESS!!!!!!!!
SOME DUDE LIKES THE PS3 BETTER THAN THE WII!
NOW THAT *IS* NEWS!!!!
I’m sure somebody out there prefers the Atari Jaguar though, which would even trump this.
However, as I gaze at my stack of *exclusive* AAA Wii titles (Mario G, MP3, Fire Emblem: RD, NMH, Mario Strikers, RE4, WW: Smooth Moves, Zelda: TP, etc.) not to mention GH3, etc. and my awesome collection of VC games (Mario Kart 64, Paper Mario, Sin and Punishment, Lords of Thunder, SF2: NW, the Marios, the Sonics, etc.) and am looking forward to Mario Kart Wii, Smash Bros., Wii Fit, etc. I can’t help but think of my PS3 fanboy friend selling his HD 10 hour titles to afford more 10 hour HD titles…sure it has Rock Band. But that’s been announced for the Wii.
All the HD games have better framerate on the XBOX 360 that I’ve played
PS3 is fun if you have fun waiting for Metal Gear Solid and FF13!!!! Otherwise the 360 is obviously the superior HD machine- maybe not theoretically hardware-wise, but in reality.
Sucks that I can’t play all those AWESOME memorable Sony franchises though- like Crash Bandicoot and Blasto…(sarcasm, Sony’s IP sucks)…all I know is I do not want a Sony/360 dominated marketplace- once Nintendo is out of the picture gaming will pretty much go on a steady downward-slide just as when Atari ruled the roost with their smug dumb ass.
I think it’s pretty hard for anyone to really say the Wii sucks. Whereas, the 360 and PS3 are Tomato/Tomato- yeah, they have some good games too. But Nintendo is the best (well at least my favorite) game developer and they don’t develop for those systems- so f ‘em!
My finaly two cents:
It seems people often confuse a “hardcore” gamer and a DORK. Playing a game with a bunch of steroided-out Space Marines, chicks with Big Tits and/or doesn’t make you hardcore- it means you may live with your mom and/or not have a girlfriend. Halo 3 is WAAAAAAYYYYYY easier than the purple coin challenges in Mario Galaxy (a -so-called “casual” game)….
like somebody else mentioned here- it’s typically teenagers who dub Nintendo’s stuff “for kids”, which is funny because if you’re not 18 then you are, legally, a kid. I have suspicions that many of you PS3 lovers would have a tough time beating the orig. Zelda- and thus ARE NOT HARDCORE.
It’s not that wii games sucks, it’s that this guy gets more replay action off of shooters. I don’t think that drake’s fortune would recieve as much play after the game is passed.
Just like melee is non-stop, games like zelda and mario are 10+/- hours experiences. Not that the fact takes anything away from how wonderful those games are.
I sold my wii for this exact reason.
Same hear except I play my 360 constantly, and my Wii and PS3 just gather dust.
Like other people have said, the Wii is a party machine - I’ve never seen my family play any other games machine other than the Wii.
My girlfriends dad wants to go and buy one for himself!!
Cross the Wii with the PS3 with X-Box Live and then you will have the ultimate machine. Add High Def and throw in some VR for good measure - now that’s going to be the future of gaming!
I just want a console with games, but it seems that the PS3 will gain momentum. I agree the Wii isn’t the best for games its just good when mates come over. I think the Wii will die over the coming years, just wait and watch.
I like the comment the ps3 is a suped up ps2. roflmao that is soooo true. NOT! I would say the 360 is an identical peice of crap to the first xbox except it doesnt last as long. I would also say wii is exactly the same as a gamecube. Same games, same graphics just a rii-tarded controller.
A couple of my thoughts so far. Ive already predicted blueray winning back in 06. People laughed. Now they have new excuses why. I dont give a rats ass how arrogant sony is, microsoft and Nintendo are just as bad.
I say Nintendo is in its own class and really shouldnt even be debacled in this artivle. Its a quirky machine for ppl who like that. I find some things Nintendo makes to be a quick time killer if your bored. I gave 360 my
time for too long and they just continue to dissapoint. Square enix have cancelled any ffx releases on 360 after last year news they would make games for it. One reason is Microsoft cant figure out how to utilize its own HD.
And as far as hard core gaming lol. Ive played the same game for 4 years straight on top of other games and still make time to party with my freinds at certain times a week for the same game we always play. Thats hard core.
And im not talking gaylo matches after school.
Bought my wii 15 months ago and enjoyed wii sports but nothing after, even mario galaxy.
Got a ps3 in December and am totally hooked on COD4 and Fifa.
Until some high quality and addictive online games are released for the wii, it will continue to sit there only being played occasionally by family and friends but not by me.
How the hell does the garbage spouted from Product-Reviews.net get posted in google news?
This is *not* news, its just the inane ramblings of joe public.
It appears to me that people who like shooters and fifa are calling the Wii kiddy and saying it has no games.
In reality the Wii has alot of AAA games, and to be honest i find the likes of metroid and galaxy far more ‘hardcore’ than repetative shooters like Halo but there you go.
Im 22 and i also agree it seems to be kids calling the Wii a kids console, is that because your desperate to apper grown up? does playin a game like smash bros not make you look as hard?
i for one am not bothered about image, i play games because they are fun. Nothing on PS3 comes close to Mario Galaxy and Brawl will rule.
After playing Metroid with the Wiimote i just dont think i could go back to the old control sceme it is so limiting and seems dated now when controling FPS’s and menus.
The Wii really is the future, im sure the PS4 and xbox720 will prove this when they copy the Wiimote and aim more games at the casual market.
Also £180 is alot for a toy, thats really just a stupid comment, if you dont like the Wiis AAA games fine but that doesnt make it a toy it just means you have a bland taste in games.
Well, I’ve had a PS3 since January 2007 and a Wii since August 2007.
I haven’t played the Wii since Thanksgiving, when my entire extended family was over. (we don’t have guests on Christmas…)
My PS3 gets 100% of my gaming time, and one game (warhawk) gets over 98% of my time.
My sister and two brothers never play any video games except Warhawk (I still like playing Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge and I also play Super Stardust HD sometimes because it has in-game custom soundtracks.)
The only person in my family who uses the Wii is my dad, and he only uses it like once a week.
I may get Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but I probably won’t.
I’ve owned my a PS3 since it’s launch, and a month ago I purchased the Wii. I have to agree, I play the Wii when I have friends or family over, but that’s once or twice a weeks at most. When I’m at home after work looking to kill time until I’m hungry, have a meeting, or til I’m tired I’m on my PS3. I bought Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Resident Evil, and Wii Play (all recommended by friends and/or family who have them), but the system lacks the realism that is required to envolope me in the story line.
I’ve rent some of the titles that online forums, magazines, and people I know considered to be GREAT Wii GAMES, but the best game so far is Mario Galaxy which annoys me that each level/world/galaxy requires me to point the Wii controller at my TV to collect star bits. I know it sounds simple, but it’s annoying to no end.
I only games I play regularly now are Madden 08 (07 on the rare occasion to play with a couple of friends who haven’t upgraded yet), UT3 and Rock Band. I never play Wii unless there are 3 or more people over who actually want to play.
Sorry Nintendo. I love your DS, but the Wii lacks any replay value to me.
This kind of discussion really shouldn’t appear on google news. I hate coming across these kinds of “news articles” where I see people diss another system for no good reason at all. I’d participate in this debate and say how brainless Bob and Art are up there (as if it isn’t already obvious), but I’ve taken part in too many of these. People just need to look at ALL of the aspects of a console apart from judging with one slice of biased info.
At Art:
Please explain hoe the PS3 is not a suped up PS2. You claim it isn’t quite vehemently but you neglect to explain your reasoning behind your statement.
nintendo fanboys are funny as they claim to enjoy playing AAA titles that they claim only the big N can develop. my advice to the people who own a wii and post in threads like these is to go out get a 360 ( i would say ps3 but the 360 is the finest example of a console with the most killer app’s)and purchase bio-shck, COD 4, Halo 3, oblivion, PGR 3 or 4, Gears of war, ghost recon, rainbow 6, the orange box(after playng through Portal tell me if Nintendo are still the only innovators). When you have played through all of thes or whichever ones tickle your fancy, put the disc back in and play them online. love games fanboys, not nintendo.ill play my 360 for the forseeable future even though i despise microsoft, but thats because im playing games and not companies.
To bluntman (hey, I love to smoke too!)-
All the games you mentioned are all good games (well, PGR isn’t really all that). They are also, with the exception of PGR all FPS that look and play better on a PC, and none of them support same-room multiplayer with a single console. Not to be an ass, but I have an awesome PC that can run circles around the PS3 (I mean, have you seen Crysis in full-res?) The purpose of a console for me is probably very different than for you- for me the Wii is the ultimate console, which is to play with friends. Hell, even if it just was a Virtual Console jukebox it’d still justify $250.00.
The Wii was never intended to compete graphically with the PS3 or 360- it’s like saying that Bill Gates has more money than Gandhi, stupid comparision. But yet, in 2008 on you f’in FPS-centric consoles you are playing WITH ANALOG STICKS???? I mean seriously, that really sucks that all you have to play for good games are FPS with shitty controls. Analog sticks offfer NO advantages, and this is not debatable. It’s a shitty control scheme from the PS-era (no surprise, as you PS3 people are still playing with a PS contoller, lol). I’ll take great controls over with poor graphics, rather than shit controls with great graphics anyday. I mean are you playing a game or watching a movie????
to thondor (keep smokin buddy lol)
While I agree with your opinion on fps controls but this thread seems to be more of a console line. I to enjoy the pc arena (i run crysis on an Alienware area-51 7500 ep) so i know exatly what your on about. Playing crysis online with buddies is a bit of a bore though to be honest. ill continue to play halo 3 online for now as counterstrike got boring imo. appreciate your opinion.
wow to think that ppl argue over such things as to which system collects the most dust. I have a wii, PS3, 360, ps2, xbox, GC. Right now they all collect the same amount of dust because games have all become copies of other games. Lets face it COD 4 is still a MultiPlayer FPS. as with Halo 3. Until they come out with something truely original that it changes your experience then dust will continue to settle. Though the wii is fun to play, but i’m waiting for that game that fully uses that wiimote(a jedi game perhaps)
Joe:
Explain why any new console is not a suped up version of its predecessor.
The Wii is a Gamecube with motion sensors and Internet.
The PS3 is a PS2 with Blu-Ray, WiFi, expandable HDD, Media Hub and better (if not perfect) Online play.
I have both - I like both - but the PS3 gets pretty much all of my time, because I’m a little too old for the seemingly endless conveyor belt of Mario variants and ‘party’ games that I’m sure I’d have enjoyed more when I was twelve.
Don’t get me wrong, my son loves the Wii. But then again, he has just turned five - which I guess is a case in point.
To Brick:
In terms of technology it is true that all new consoles are just super up versions of their predecessors, but it terms of game play and innovation the PS3 and XBOX360 is just more of the sam thing we’ve been getting for years. Yes, I know we’ve also been getting Mario and Zelda for years, but at least the way you play the games has changed. By the way, just because every other game on the Wii isn’t rated M doesn’t make it a kid’s console, if you read earlier post there are many adults who love the Wii over the XBOX360.
XBOX360 gets the action round these parts, Halo 3 and Devil May Cry 4. Only thing I play Wii these days is Tiger Woods on rainy days. PS3 has been a little more active since Unreal. I’m a Yoda fan so when Soul Calibur 4 comes out then XBOX360 will just keep on going. http://www.gamespot.com/pages/image_viewer/frame_lead.php?pid=940048&img=41#screen_42
