It came as no surprise when Daniel Day-Lewis’ name was called out for the best actor award at the Oscars on Sunday. As Lewis had already won plenty of top honours at numerous award shows this year, he was the hot favourite at last night’s academy awards.
Daniel Day-Lewis was handed his award by ’The Queen’ actress and Oscar winner Helen Mirren, whom he knelt before and said, “That’s the closest I’ll ever come to getting a knighthood.”
In his acceptance speech the 50-year-old said,
“My deepest thanks to the members of the academy for whacking me with the handsomest bludgeon in town,”
