Are Take That Still Great?: Gary Barlow hits out at The Brit Academy

It has been reported that Gary Barlow has hit out at the Brit Academy for failing to appreciate Take That. At the award ceremony on Wednesday they won awards for Best Live Act and Best Single, but Barlow is not happy that they only won in categories that were voted for by the public.
“It’s amazing that when the public get to vote we always do well. It’s brilliant. But it gets to me that whenever we have been nominated for other awards we always get overlooked” he said when speaking to The Sun.
The lost out on Best Group and Best Album to the Artic Monkey.
Is this just sour grapes from Gary Barlow and does he need to face the fact that Take That are no longer the group they once were.

It isn’t a case of whether they are still great or not … because they are actually better than the first time round. The important thing here is that Barlow is right. Beautiful World has proved itself with sales of over 2.5 million and yet it gets overlooked by an album that has sold scarcely more than half that. Favourite Worst Nightmares was a good album … but it did not deserve to win over Beautiful World. In fact Mika’s Life in Cartoon Motion was more deserving of the best album than the Arctics. The Brits voting academy just sees itself as ‘cool’ by going for the Monkeys and anything ‘indie’. Having said that - I’d rather ‘indie’ than R&B. However they will never go ‘pop’ - heck - they couldn’t even meet the public half-way by voting the Kaiser Chiefs Best Band - because they see the Chief’s as being a little too ‘poppy’ for their liking.
Barlow was right! End of!
Take That are still great, they always have been and always will be!!!
They never recieve enough recognition from what they do and they definately should have won those two other awards at the brits! The artic monkeys were so ungrateful!!!
Of course Take That are still great, if not, even better than before. It’s a shame that their hard work is overlooked by the suits at the Brits possibly because they are not ‘cool’ enough. I would like to hear the suits reasons behind each of the awards they decided on on the night as the public showed how they feel in their thousands.
Gary wasn’t complaining, he was just stating his views as to why they don’t seem to win the awards voted for by the academy. They do well with the public votes which he appreciates. Apparently the best album vote was extremely close though per the disembodied voiceover on the Brits broadcast when the Artics won. Maybe the boy band stigma is lessening, which it should. At least they right their own music and can all play instruments, it’s just they have the added bonus of being able to dance and put on an entertaining show as well.
Hell yeah, better than ever!
As written above, it is not essential whether they are great or not- even though they are 1000 times better than 10 years ago.
And Gary is not complaining and its pretty obvious that they are so proud of the 2 awards they one-which were more than well deserved.
But it is quite noticable, that whenever it is the public that gets to vote-the win, because they are the best, but whenever its the academy they funny enough loose and its only because its pop music.
And just look at their record sale, it is a joke that someone who has sold half of what Take That have sold wins the award for Best Album.
And I think that The Brits should let the public vote for every category, because its us in the end that buys the albu
Take that are still great they deserve every credit for what they have achieved.The tour was fantastic their music is far better than the artics.
Take That are still great. If anything they’re better than they were the first time round! They all write the songs and play instruments. They can do a lot more nowadays. And the tour was just incredible-they were amazing! Gary is completly,if it wasn’t for the fans they wouldn’t win awards and it ridiculous because they really deserve them!
It’s interesting how someone can twist Barlow’s words this much. As “Shoes” said Gary wasn’t complaining. It’s a matter of facts, everyone knows that. He was dead on about what he said.
Take That was great back in the days and they’re even better this time around. They’ve changed so much and they brought the changes on to “Beautiful World”, and that my friend is a good thing!
Take That Rule The World….says it all really!
Of course Gary was right to say what he did, they deserve a hell of a lot more recognition and respect from people other than the public!
Anyone who has ever seen them live, especially since their reunion will know just how much talent they have and how much effort is put into their music and live shows! They have bettered themselves over the years and in my opinion I think there is even more to come yet from this great great band!
Time to stop giving awards to rubbish like the Arctic Monkeys who don’t even appreciate their awards and give them to guys like Gary, Howard, Mark and Jason who work their butts off and give more than 100% in all that they do!
Never mind sour grapes from Gary…more like a load of lemons deciding who gets the awards!
