Are Take That Still Great?: Gary Barlow hits out at The Brit Academy

It isn’t a case of whether they are still great or not … because they are actually better than the first time round. The important thing here is that Barlow is right. Beautiful World has proved itself with sales of over 2.5 million and yet it gets overlooked by an album that has sold scarcely more than half that. Favourite Worst Nightmares was a good album … but it did not deserve to win over Beautiful World. In fact Mika’s Life in Cartoon Motion was more deserving of the best album than the Arctics. The Brits voting academy just sees itself as ‘cool’ by going for the Monkeys and anything ‘indie’. Having said that – I’d rather ‘indie’ than R&B. However they will never go ‘pop’ – heck – they couldn’t even meet the public half-way by voting the Kaiser Chiefs Best Band – because they see the Chief’s as being a little too ‘poppy’ for their liking.

Barlow was right! End of!

Take That are still great, they always have been and always will be!!!
They never recieve enough recognition from what they do and they definately should have won those two other awards at the brits! The artic monkeys were so ungrateful!!!

Of course Take That are still great, if not, even better than before. It’s a shame that their hard work is overlooked by the suits at the Brits possibly because they are not ‘cool’ enough. I would like to hear the suits reasons behind each of the awards they decided on on the night as the public showed how they feel in their thousands.

Gary wasn’t complaining, he was just stating his views as to why they don’t seem to win the awards voted for by the academy. They do well with the public votes which he appreciates. Apparently the best album vote was extremely close though per the disembodied voiceover on the Brits broadcast when the Artics won. Maybe the boy band stigma is lessening, which it should. At least they right their own music and can all play instruments, it’s just they have the added bonus of being able to dance and put on an entertaining show as well.

Hell yeah, better than ever!

As written above, it is not essential whether they are great or not- even though they are 1000 times better than 10 years ago.
And Gary is not complaining and its pretty obvious that they are so proud of the 2 awards they one-which were more than well deserved.
But it is quite noticable, that whenever it is the public that gets to vote-the win, because they are the best, but whenever its the academy they funny enough loose and its only because its pop music.
And just look at their record sale, it is a joke that someone who has sold half of what Take That have sold wins the award for Best Album.
And I think that The Brits should let the public vote for every category, because its us in the end that buys the albu

Take that are still great they deserve every credit for what they have achieved.The tour was fantastic their music is far better than the artics.

Take That are still great. If anything they’re better than they were the first time round! They all write the songs and play instruments. They can do a lot more nowadays. And the tour was just incredible-they were amazing! Gary is completly,if it wasn’t for the fans they wouldn’t win awards and it ridiculous because they really deserve them!

It’s interesting how someone can twist Barlow’s words this much. As “Shoes” said Gary wasn’t complaining. It’s a matter of facts, everyone knows that. He was dead on about what he said.
Take That was great back in the days and they’re even better this time around. They’ve changed so much and they brought the changes on to “Beautiful World”, and that my friend is a good thing!

Of course Gary was right to say what he did, they deserve a hell of a lot more recognition and respect from people other than the public!

Anyone who has ever seen them live, especially since their reunion will know just how much talent they have and how much effort is put into their music and live shows! They have bettered themselves over the years and in my opinion I think there is even more to come yet from this great great band!

Time to stop giving awards to rubbish like the Arctic Monkeys who don’t even appreciate their awards and give them to guys like Gary, Howard, Mark and Jason who work their butts off and give more than 100% in all that they do!

Never mind sour grapes from Gary…more like a load of lemons deciding who gets the awards!

They work hard and have achieved so much. There comeback material has been so different but great. They have proved successful in what could be deemed two separate careers

Take That are by far the best group around and thoroughly deserved the two Brits they won. However, they have never been acknowledged by the Brits committee and that’s all Gary was pointing out. The success of their comeback, their two sell out tours and their STILL riding high in the charts album proves they deserve to be recognised in my opinion.

He was not in anyway complaining, yet again use of rhetoric when reviewing someones comments. How intelligent of you.He was stating a fact, something that we the great british public have realised for quite a while. The brit panel of so called left wing intellectual twits have yet again patted themselves on the back and awarded the Best Album and Best Group to one of their own. The delightful Artic Monkeys (Arsenic would be a btter title for them as they are a poisonous little group. The one thing all of you need to realise that it’s the great British Buying public who buy the records and they show that by how they vote. The fact that each time TT have won Brit awards we have voted for them, surely that tells record producers and their ilk something!!
The fact that the Artics actually didn’t sell as many albums as TT or the Kaiser Chiefs says a lot to me. Basically if you aren’t angst ridden drug fuelled so called left of centre musicians then you don’t count in the Brit school of thinking. It’s high time the Brits became synonimous with all that is wrong with this world and instead was replaced by British Public awards, they are far more important as they actually buy the records!!

If you had quoted Gary in full he actually went on to say that they are very gratefull for the awards they received. The Brit academy are not so important to them as their fans and thats how it should be. The Brits need to get over their facination with drunken drugged up indie bands. Take That are still very much “the band they once were.” Silly comments that say otherwise have taken no note of record sales and tour ticket sales.

Take That are better than they have ever been, and their popularity was proved by the 2 public votes that they won. I totally agree with Gary’s comments though. The suits are scared of ruining their cool reputation. I think the fact that they knew TT would probably win the public votes would have swayed the judges votes too. They couldn’t let TT steal the show with 4 awards now could they. Best album was very close though, with only a few votes in it. I really think the longer they stay around though, the more credible they will become, and I really believe that if TT release another album later this year, which is as good as Beautiful World, then we may see a pop band finally conquer the stigma of pop music for the first time, and they will finally get the recognition they so truly deserve. Well done lads for your awards this year, and keep up the good work.

Gary was not complaining, he was making a valid point which a lot of people happen to agree with, me included. The Brits seem to be interested in voting for ‘cool’ acts (their own definition of cool that is).

When is the Brits going to live up to it’s name and hand out awards which reflect the British publics views, rather than the views of an elite few. How could the Artics win best album when their sales are so low compared to Take That???? How does that reflect what the British public are thinking?

Gary is right! The Monkeys didn´t deserve any award they´ve won. The haven´t been thankful for their awards at all! What a luck they aren´t any famous over here in Germany. So I don´t have to listen to their stuff anymore…

This was not a complaint, but statement of FACT!
As usual the Brits have patted themselves on the back for all their good work and awarded Best Group and Best Album to one of their own! Is it possible to not be just a tad disgruntled? After all The artics didn’t sell anywhere near as many albums as TT or other groups that weren’t nominated. Lets face it, those delightful Brit directors couldn’t possibly award the most popular band in Britain now could they? Heaven forbid!
It does not seem to matter a jot to these people that the Great British buying public have yet again voted with their hearts and minds, after all we aren’t important are we? Doesn’t seem to matter than we are the ones who buy their records! The Brit panel are somewhat deluded and self gratifying to say the least, how they must have patted themselves on the back when they chose one of their own, how clever they think they are! Be warned, nepotism has a way of imploding in on itself. Although I for one would be quite happy if the Brits panel disappeared up their own backsides, let’s face it they are half way there already.

Are Take That still great? Quite simply….No

They are BETTER than great. Great does not even begin to describe how fantastically amazing they are, in every sense.

Take That have stood the test of time. They have just finished their biggest ever tour, touring their biggest selling ever album. As well as their fantastic new material, they still have the ability to sing and perform their old school classics. They put so much thought, effort and dedication into every little thing they do, its no wonder their fans from back in the day are still 100% behind them, as well as all the new fans they have accumilated since their estounding comeback.

Not only are they fantastically talented, they are also some of the nicest, most genuine, and most polite down to earth ‘celebrities’ you could ever wish to come across. They put bands like the Arctic Monkeys to shame.

I think gary is right, beautiful world was an amazing album. Take that are also by far the best group of 2007, better than the artic monkeys, they need to grow up, all they can do is get absolutly drunk, and slate take that off. Don’t get me wrong there songs are ok but there personalties need a bit a work, take that are much better, they have done best comeback in history. Take that are still good, and your stupid for saying there not, there amazing the best like ever, i went to see them in concert, late 30′s still break dancing and that, thats good. overall i think gary is damn right, all i can say is GO GARY!!!!!

If more people realised what goes on behind the scenes that other bands might not nessisarily be doing, wheras Take That have a lot going on that the public don’t know about.
It was brilliant that Take That won their awards which they truely deserve. I know I am not the only one who thinks The Arctic Monkeys were ungrateful for their awards which they have won repeatedly over the years, which I think might have gone to their heads.
Gary was right in what he said. This quote is out of context, therefore more was said over the matter and wasn’t ungrateful.

Take That were the best, are the best, and always will be the best. It’s about time they were recognised by the music industry, but of course they (The Brits) wouldn’t dare do a thing like that. Take That are better than ever.
How many groups can boast that they have had 2 sell out tours and a multi million selling album all in the name of a ‘comeback’?

The group have matured, developed a true working partnership and will get bigger and greater over the coming years.

The group genuinely appreciate the 2 Brit awards that they received courtesy of the public vote (unlike the arrogant Arctics) and it is about time that the Brit committee formally recognise their achievements and reward them accordingly.

If, what has been written is true, well done Gary for making a stand. The Brits committee need to wake up and see what the music scene is all about at the moment- Take That are number 1

That statement doesn’t really make alot sense considering that even if Take That were no longer the group they once were(which we all know thats not true), they still didn’t get the recognition from the Brits back in the day.
The fact is… just because Take That are a pop manufactured band, it’s seen as ‘uncool’ and no matter how popular they are, no matter how many votes they get the panel will not give them the acknowledgment they deserve. Its really unjustifiable.
They do the same thing in the film industry.
Barlow is right and should not be over looked considering how many songs he’s written which have then gone on to be great hits.

Take That are of course better than they ever were, and I agree with everything that has already been said about the pettyness of the Brits committee. It really is a pity that Rule the World wasn’t nominated for an Oscar as maybe then they may have received more recognition for their achievements – Take That aren’t just some revived Boyband churning out stand up at the key change covers – they have re invented themselves and have produced an amazing album and 2 brilliant tours – the Best Live Act Brit was so totally deserved!!!! Lets see if the Arctic Monkeys last 10 months never mind 10 years

What a question!!!!! Of course they’re still the best…and they always will! I think they’re much better than 14 years ago!!! Their concerts (2006 and 2007) were the best I’ve been to!!!!

They are better than ever….and I didn’t believe there was room for improvement. They deserve recognition from the music industry for their wonderful work.

i think that gary should just calm down because he never knows that he could maybe win that award next time.also i think that just because he didn`t get voted for the ones he wanted to win it doesn`t mean that nobody thinks he is because some people might have voted for him to win that but maybe more people wanted somebody else to win. remember it isn`t alway`s winning that counts its taking part that matters.

But Bailey, Gary wasn’t complaining (the headlines always make Gary out to be doing so) he was just stating a fact. I went out and bought the Arctic Monkeys album FWN and listened to it several times … it is actually good (lyrically) musically it is very ‘samish’. It is not nearly as diverse as Beautiful World. The Brits played it safe by voting for the Arctic Monkeys because they knew it wouldn’t offend anyone. Hey – it actually works to Take That’s advantage now as by not being awarded it – they’re actually ‘hipper’ than the Arctic Monkeys.
